Pseudoinebriation? I'm so disappointed. I had this very cool, colorful picture of you developing rather nicely in my mind. So, what's your real vice then, Gizzy? Chocolate? I have a pet theory that everyone has at least one, even if it's game-playing or getting an adrenaline rush off rock-climbing. quote:This is the self-deprecating lie which Christendom has so cripplingly taken to its bosom like a slow-working venom of guilt and shame. I say what a crock. If God is the Father of any of us, and if we know anything of the nature of good parents from earthly example which falls short, we know there is something highly inherently endearing and endurably loveable about our own children, even when they act foolishly like, uh, children. It is this false humility of Christianty which is obsessed with its own perceived “sinfulness” even though the Christ “did away with sin once and for all” that makes it something far less than the “good news” which the meaning of “gospel” suggests. Something deep in the spirit recoils, because it knows this is a lie designed to defeat and disempower, all in the name of God and Love and Forgiveness. The effective lies are the ones which come in the guise of religion and truth. Colossians 1:21 And you--once being alienated, and enemies in the mind, in the evil works, yet now did he reconcile, We were enemies and alienated from God in our own minds, not in His attitude or declaration upon His children. It’s all a battle for the mind. What we perceive and believe shapes all we think, feel, and do. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

Well, that was mildly annoying. Seems like the kind of way I'd be inclined to reply half the time too. I enjoy the either or question reply. Hmm, hard to tell how provocative and devilishly advocational you're being, Salmon, but I got to ask, assuming you believe it, and I don't recall hearing the "smarter" or "more aware" claim before in those terms, would you base #1 upon biologal or cultural factors? I'm increasingly of the opinion, the more I learn and examine gender issues, that there is very little base difference overall between men and women. I am convinced that so much of what we deem biological difference apart from literal physical and functional differences, is really cultural. It just runs so deeply and ubiquitously and for so long nearly universally that it's hard to tell what men and women would be like under whole new socializing rules. In other words, books like 'Men are from Mars and Women are From Venus' are a bunch o' bunk. "Women" aren't really like "this" and "men" aren't like "that" except under the presently evolved social situations we have on hand. We get socialized into roles from day one and society is saturated with them. It looks and feels innate by the time we even become conscious of gender roles. There a few biological differences which can possibly factor into behavior/personality differences, such as the general fact that women's brain hemispheres tend to me more cross-connected than men's, allowing better multitasking skills primarily. But I wonder even about this. Which came first? Women got shuttled into a certain role in life which encouraged or required greater social or multi-tasking skills and therefore their brains adapted to reflect that, or brain structure determines how women simply "are"? Salmon and Slartucker mentioned two films I am quite partial to (Yeahhhhhhh, let me just....get that from you....greeeeaaaaaat), but for overall total pleasure afforded me during my lifetime by one movie, and for a film that remains watchable to me: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Slarty...are you a fan of other Hayao Miyazaki films? That reminds me that Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind finally got reissued on DVD recently, which I need to pick up. Anyone seen Porco Rosso, and if so, what do you think? Karin and whom it may concern: Keep in mind that the SICTG™ also operates on whim, which by definition is essentially random and unpredictable. Do not look for deeper meaning in the name the SICTG™ has selected for you. However, the SICTG™ is, at times, open to protest, suggestion, or discrEET bribery, according, of course, entirely to whim. Also note that as the SICTG™ acquires more data on the nature of your being, it may well be inclined in the future to retitle you to something more annoyingly insightful. Stew Boy - You are preapproved! Send no money now. Actually...do. Lots. Going back to school is really expensive. quote:I spend enough of my life in that (counseling) role. One reason I chose to enter the field of psychotherapy was because my friends and associates kept utilizing me that way, even when I was a teen. I like to listen and they like to talk. They like what I have to say in response. I figured I might as well get paid to do what I love and am apparently geared to do. Thurly - you got me. I do know the difference between discreet and discrete, so I must have been on auto-pilot last night. However, the bribe can be discrete too: three vacuum tubes, to be exact. SupaNik. The novelty of your haircut has worn off We have reverted you to your original glory. Spring - That was thorougly underwhelming. The SICTG™ is not impressed. Do you write one-word essay answers in school too? I saw a puff of smoke rise from the back of the SICTG™ when I fed it your minimalistic data. We may require more. Something. Anything. A story from your day, perhaps. That is, if you want a title that is (A) relevant and (B) palatable. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

hmmmm........ hmmmmmmmm...... hm... ef - I am training to be a psychotherapist. It may be hugely assumptive to expect that how I may behave in my worst moments in the surreal la la land of an online gaming forum is indicative of how I do or would ever treat a client. Salmon - I didn’t mention it in this thread. I think I mentioned it a couple months back. Thanks for the kind word. Alo - Even I don’t have it in me to make myself that patronizing and irritating, exluding any irrelevant opinion that TM may feel an irrepressible compulsion to share. Jewels - Sweet as ever. And not the brain-damaging Aspartame™ sort. Real honey. Stew Boy - I know thee not. Answer my questions five (previously posed to Spring) and ye too may have hopes of name transmanglification. Selima - Yes, that’s right. You did decline our lovely Valentine rose. The SICTG™ deemed it technically factual. Thurly is correct. Drakey, for reasons known wholly only by himself, imposes his Malice in Wonderland fetish upon numerous unsuspecting custom title recipients. Ephesos - It has something to do with your enthusiastic spell casting style (RETRIBUTION!) fused with your well-known affinity for all things unliving. It also had something to do with the boredom of the SICTG™ the other day. It could be convinced to switch things around for a small, discrete bribe. Some Lithuanian black market vacuum tubes might suffice. Stew Boy - Sometimes less is more, but I frequently fail to take my own advice, so knock yourself out if it suits you. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

I agree with everything you said, Slartucker. So there's my glaring weakness–my need sometimes to exact from a situation what I feel I need for my own well-being. It's quite selfish. Frequently my "persistence" ultimately works out for the better, despite this, and however messy it gets, obviously sometimes it may not. Either way, as I continue to "work on my own stuff," I am confident I will continue to less and less frequently hit these moments where something seems so monumentally and immediately important. Like I said, this all hit me at an especially vulnerable moment for me, and I don't care to elaborate on that any more. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

quote:It didn't start out privately. It started out with Kel and I disagreeing respectfully enough in the course of various topics here, which is entirely par for the course in an online forum. Recently, the increasingly barbed nature of Kel's every comment directed my way caused me to half-jokingly write, "I don't think Kel likes me anymore." Kel was good enough to notice that I presume, and within a couple of days IM'ed me to say he didn't mean anything by his comments except that he disagrees with so much of what I have been saying. When I asked why it felt like there was more than just disagreement behind the remarks I'd been seeing, he eventually said things which startled and disappointed, and frankly, yeah, hurt me to hear. On another day, dealing with less stress going on in my life, I would have dealt with it much more coolly and graciously. Maybe I wouldn't even have cared, much like TM's rants and criticisms don't bother me. But either way I would have wanted to talk it out and come to whatever resolution on the matter we could, because I got the sense Kel was angry or highly annoyed with me, and maybe I had done something to personally offend him I should know about. But Kel said he didn't think we had an issue and didn't want to talk with me about it at all. Therefore, I was not permitted to talk it out privately with him. It was basically a hit and run, which I consider a cowardly thing to do, and it made me a lot more angry than the simple fact that he considers me an idiot. Any human being wants some respect, even in disagreement, and I was shocked to find Kel appeared to have none for me. I didn't want to have the pleasure I have enjoyed here at SW tainted by some lingering sense of someone who despises and disrespects me having it in for me around every corner, someone whom till that moment I had thought I had a friendly and respectful relationship with, so I tried the only other thing which I believed had a hope of forcing Kel to face our contention and not ignore it, so we could get it over with. I agree, it's really quite inappropriate to drag things into the open for its own sake or inflict it on these boards. I saw no other recourse, and am willing to break rules when more poignant issues of hearts and relationships are on the line. I also hoped we'd reconcile our differences to some resonable degree quickly—which we did. It seems like other people are determined to not let it die, and I don't mean Kel. But I was sorry to see this morning that Kel considers the whole thing stupid. Disagreements and offenses happen. It's life. It's unfortunate, and plenty about it is always stupid, but that doesn't mean it's not important to address. Most contentions in life seem to revolve around communication issues and misunderstandings anyway, and I will own up to my own ability to misconstrue or over-react. But to have someone call the fact that something he did or said to upset me is stupid is just a slap in the face after an apology. It belittles my values, even if he doesn't agree with them. I'm done with seeking to extract anything from Kel on the matter and I wish him no ill will. I apologize to those present who were offended by anything done here. I am not sorry for choosing to do it however. Conserving electrons on a fleeting electronic bulletin board about games is hardly as important as seeking to somehow address grievances between two people in my book. Games are fantasy and trivial. Relationships, even via internet, are something of real life. Peace. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

Ah....yessssss...The SICTG™ has investigated the nature of your presence on this planet, Spring, and has decided you are worthy of The Treatment. The SICTG™ informs me, however, that it requires the retrieval of some pertinent data first: 1) Where do you live? The SICTG™ suspects the UK or Australia due to the school uniforms spotted in the profile photo, but is in need of some new vacuum tubes to fully compute the likelihood. 2) What is your relationship to the bevy of lassies in the picture behind you? 3) What is your attitude toward said bevy? 4) What is your favorite color? 5) What is the meaning of life? Answer these, and the SICTG™ will get back to you promptly with some vulgar derivation of your essence. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

I remember hearing the title song to the movie That Thing That You Do, and exclaiming, "Hey, are Split Enz back?" I hadn't realized Tim Finn had put himself back to some good use. I was glad he got some recognition for that. I still have 2 or 3 different colored vinyl versions of the ancient, but catchy True Colours LP. Those boys gave new wave pop a good name. EDIT: Oh fave games, right: Civilization II/III The Myst series Doom/Quake/Hexen Amber: Journeys Beyond (good late 90's creepy mystery game ala 7th Guest.) Averna Umm, if you want a clue how long I've been around and how early the gaming addiction set in, my first computer gaming experience was the original Zork/Great Cave and an early fave was Loderunner on the Apple //. *Reviews the odds placed and lots cast in the last 24 hours* Oh ye of little faith. It appears no one thought anything worthwhile could come of a confrontation here. Tsk tsk. You gotta trust the process. It's messy. It takes a little time and work, but two people are capable of arriving at a reasonable place. For me, it's just got to be hashed out a bit instead of swept under the rug. Unfinished business and grudges eat at the soul like a cancer (and in fact, harbored anger can be linked to cancer.) I'll go to lengths to avoid it, even if it first has to get uglier before it gets better—like surgery. ... Geez, Ash, if I spend time playing with my friends' kids or playing with my nieces or counseling teens, is that creepy too? I enjoy people of all ages, but I'll state plainly, if it helps, that I love women, not girls. Haven't you seen me razzin' a certain someone around here all the time about his little fixation on Rosycat and Japanese girls? That's not some kind of weird displacement going on. It creeps me out too. I do find Nico very amusing. If we have any sense of inter-connectedness as the human race, anyone harming others in one place is harming us all. If a tree falls in the woods "unseen" it still alters its environment, because it's all interconnected. The owl loses its home. The trees it falls on are damaged. Nothing happens in true isolation. I think we have great accountability for our personal, and even hidden actions in this context. As someone stated earlier, the real question is what does any of us do about it? -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |
