Hullo Saunders, well met again. Riibu - lovely photos. You have beautiful exotic eyes. Tell your mom and dad they do nice work. Tyran...vexed by the ol' college fifteen, eh? Nico - yep, you're really rather cute, no way 'round it, I'm afraid. I have my pencil-proof vest on. :P Gizmo - well, as official keeper of the Periodic Table of SW, I do believe you qualify as a bit bookish. By the way, may I take SN if it's not too late? (Stands for SyNergy, SNoopy, and tin SNips...) And I'm shiny and malleable. -S- -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

It's certainly entertaining watching imaginations run amok. The rumors of any recent activity by me here have been greatly exaggerated. Nice to know you're thinking of me enough to hallucinate me, Gizmo. That's a warm welcome, indeed! I see I am just in time for the backlash following TM's regularly-scheduled banning. -S- -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

I'm not looking to chit chat idly, mostly discuss a little basic strategy, like whether or not to use those skill points on creations which suck up my lead character's essence. This is all pretty new to me. I suppose I could read hints and tips from previous GF's, but I also kind of wanted the novelty of something entirely new, and also be able to provide feedback from that perspective. All the better to chase me down on AOL or Yahoo IM (Synergy7167 on each.) -S- -------------------- A4 Items • A4 Singleton • G4 Items • G4 Forging • G4 Infiltrator • NR Items • The Lonely Celt Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

I'm beta-testing G4 and would like to be able to chat or email with some other testers about the game, especially since I never played G1-3...though I must say, I am progressing nicely enough so far. Hmm, people I've barely met here are showing up with all kinds of pleasant and mildly skeptical and dubious things to say. Thanks Alex and Zeviz. Anyone may note in my opening post that my purpose was to burn off my last twenty-odd posts here, rather than create some kind of grandiose exit or even a "goodbye" thread, though I suppose it wasn't exactly unpredictable. I'd as soon have spent them on the virtues of brown-eyed women, stupid things your cat does, the joys of fleece, movies you loved which I hated or hated which I loved, your favorite animal at the zoo, the trippy dream you had last night, 101 uses for a ball of tin foil, or...well, the list could go on a while. Considering all possible topics, I could swear there is a plot to never let anyone escape here. What's the deal, misery loves company? :D You're all evil, evil I tell you, and I can see the dull flicker of green reptilian eyes glinting back at me with every grinning effort to prohesy my capitulation to the will of the turtles. arghhhhhhhhh—I'll say one thing. You always did make me laugh. For all the wrong reasons, perhaps, but laughter's good medicine even when ill-gained. Good luck to you and your planet of V's. You've got quite an imagination there. In fact, it might have to be registered with local officials and checked monthly for any developing dangerous irregularities. Tyranicus—may you not live up to your name's implications, though I still first picture a dinosaur with a buzzy haircut. And now, permit me to tell you fine people Step Three in my five-step escape process. Step One, as you will not recall, as I haven't yet mentioned it, is to actually entertain the possibilty of escape, and after several stiff drinks, to resolve to do so. Then, for good measure, a few more drinks. Step Two is setting up some cheesy and inane Exit Scenario, so it would be unbearably humiliating to actually (A) fail to leave or (B) show your face 'round here any time in at least the next six months. Step Three is to time it so you have factors of Real Life working to support your brave, but foolhardy decision. In my case, on Thursday I fly to Albuquerque to meet up with my best friends who delightfully enough have finally gotten some sense back into their thick skulls and decided to move back to Seattle. They've been gone all of a year and a half and can't stand living in Kansas anymore. I'm meeting them in New Mexico for a wacky road trip back up here. I'll be gone for 5-6 days on this little jaunt upon which we will see the Painted Desert and Grand Canyon in Arizona, Las Vegas (I've never been, but I do have a lady friend who lives there), Crater Lake, Oregon, visiting another lady friend of mine in Oregon, whom I've never actually met before, and heading home up the coast along the ocean on the Pacific Coast Highway. You'll all forgive me, but I'm not going to be thinking about Spiderweb for at least a week, unless you live along the route and would love to share your home one night with three highway punch-drunk adults, a bouncy five-year old, and a bafflingly well-tempered baby girl. In that case, we might all become your new best friends and drinks would be on us. All in all, this week of forced fun with Real Live Human Beings might even be sufficient to carry me through the withdrawal stage. Steps Four and Five involve ritual keyboard binding and mind reprogramming techniques, but you don't need to know about those. P.S. — Nicothodes. It is possible that you really aren't cute at all, and I hope to never meet you in a dark alley without a pen with which to defend myself. P.P.S. — Ash, uh...get out of the way. I'd have to pull out old articles once read for the specifics, which I really am not that interested in doing, admittedly. But...when one at least takes the cold's cue to slow down and attend to one's health, the process of slowing down, stopping or reducing eating, etc. allows the body to better deal with whatever is compromising the immune system enough to be prey to the particular cold virus in the first place. Meanwhile, the runny nose is flushing a lot of crud out in the mucous, primarily the dead virus protein material, of course. The lymphatic system is kicked into high gear. Lack of exercise (our calf muscles pump our lymphatics), also contributes to our susceptibility to viruses. Good to keep the lymph system active. When we develop worse things, like the flu, it pretty much forces us to slow down or stop without being able to bury the symptoms with pharmaceuticals as we can more readily with colds. I think I'm done with this topic though. To rephrase Dieter of Sprockets, "My story has become tiresome. Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance." Khoth - Isn't smallpox one of those diseases they recently began to warn us the vaccinations may not much longer work for reliably? There is debated evidence suggesting various childhood immunizations can cause brain damage or other damage. It's a questionable practice with associated risks. I'm not entirely against immunizations...but mostly. Hmm, well, I'm kind of trying to use them up. I'm not sure how else to word it, because I'm not disagreeing with the more immediate fact of the matter concerning what viruses do. I'm pointing to the thing that causes us to be vulnerable to the thing viruses do to us when we are vulnerable. That seems like one layer closer to bedrock, and the reason I find the focus encouraging is that it puts more power and accountability back into our own hands right where it belongs. I believe in a time when through spiritual regeneration, physical health will also be regenerated to the point of no more sickness, so here is how I best perceive that relates to our present physical realities and limitations. It bothers me that I think many people too wholly embracing the nearly random chance "catch a virus" perspective may be inclined toward a more pessimistic, passive, and helpless view in the face of getting sick, or even in their chances of developing something like cancer, when there is plenty to support that we can be of great effect on what we are going to fall prey to in our lives. Like religion/spirituality, there are alternative perspectives and explanations about health and disease and how best to heal bodies. I'm speaking from a point of view that doesn't accept some of the general premises of allopathic medicine, but that is probably obvious. Colds are a bother, but they can still be seen as a very efficient way for the body to rapidly detoxify itself in certain ways. EDIT: When a's should be e's. Angelic Alorael, oh ye of little faith. Really now. And that goes for the rest of you betting against me too. :P You underestimate my devotion to choice numbers. I do thank thee sincerely for thy kindly offerings. Alo, there's something very unique about you which gives me great pause...well, not in my posting, but in my reflection. There is a measured steadiness and placidity and decency to you that seems uncommon, nearly angelic, and that is no embellishment at all from where I sit. There is also a gently-employed, but formidable sense of humor and mischief residing within all that, which I have greatly enjoyed. I imagine I'd like to know you in the real world. ADD-IT: I of course wholly approve of and muchly appreciate the pun. Kel, you're much too smart for me. You've got me and my shameless attention-whoring ways pegged. No manipulation or conjured fabrication could be unjustified, after all, for the contrived affection and solicited sympathies and just one more fleeting moment in the sun—or rather, the dim green glowing fungus light, as the case may be. But I wouldn't think to deprive you of the pleasure of seeing me actually keeping my promise, and now you have indeed bumped me one post closer to the brink. ADD-IT: Slartucker. I'm kind of bowled over. I was expecting a lot of heckling and nonsense to toy with till I got to #777, which I will today. It is all kind of ridiculous. It's not a big deal. It's just cyberspace, and I'm just having some fun and amusement on the way out. I'm not imagining this is or that I am remotely important to the actual purpose of this forum. I've never built a scenario or held an office, or programmed a line of code (well not since high school), and I've only been around a few months. I'd have just as soon slipped out of here on one post if I was at 777 when I made the decision. I guess you'll have to find someone else to scold now, huh? ;) I have appreciated your scolding though. You've been mostly right by my estimation and I do listen and care, despite the immediate response, which can be akin to summoning hordes of unholy Hakaai to do their worst. quote:I meant to answer this previously. I was slamming religion as institution essentially, but surely all things serve their necessary purpose and evolve or dissolve when they are finished doing so. I think it's a time of transition between 2000 years of Churchianity and a newer revelation and interjection of God into the world. I think Church as it has long been known, may pass away in a manner not dissimilar to what happened to the Jewish temple-based ritual system at the end of the Law Age in 70 A..D. I'm not saying something terrible or sudden has to happen to the system. But I do think it is finally truly ripe to be supplanted in this modern age. There is so much mixture in so many things. There are many perfeclty lovely and wonderful people in churches and there may even be a lovely and wonderful church somewhere, though I haven't been in one I can long stomach. They feel like coffins with no room to stretch or think or question or live. In the Revelation, the promise was that the churches, despite their mixture, would have the anointing of God within them nonetheless. It's been a condescending act of God to permit God to be represented through so much tradition and ritual and unnecessary embellishment to what began as a simple gospel message that was supposed to be good news to all. So, even when I slam the institutions we have built out of something pure and simple, I also have to acknowledge with due respect the important role they have played. I think one of the biggest roles is teaching the world in no uncertain terms the evils and horrors that even the highest truth can unleash when they are dragged down to a baser and unenlightened level. The gospel was about something spiritual internally which was to be liberating and redemptive, but the soon ensuing religifying of the message brought it back under law and externals and literal fires to fear, and so on. I slam Church more than I ought, but I have a special affection for Christians nonetheless. -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |

Drake, obviously you are a man who has mastered the art of restraint. Impressive. Nik, thank you, Sir. I don't remember my first post here at all, unless it was my affectionate review of Canopy. Somehow that doesn't seem right though. Maybe it was something more about all the things I did and didn't like about the Avernum games, and how I'd improve them. Even that post was prophetically interminable, no? IDLE TACK-ON FACT: I watched Hotel Rwanda last night. A very good movie. Not prurient, not overwhelming, not cloying; but inspiring to see the difference one person can make even in the most perilous and hopeless of places. CONSCIENTIOUS ADD-IT TACK-ON: That wasn't meant to be a veiled reference to any other particular place being perilous and hopeless, but it sure could read that way. I'm having an "It's A Wonderful Life" moment, David, I had no idea. Thanks, man, er ma'am, uh.....hmmm. ADD-IT: Oh, to answer your question, I think I realized I needed to pull the plug when I saw how fierce my reaction to someone like Kel had become. It does great disservice to so much of what I talk about when I can't demonstrate it. I need to spend much more time being and giving out than talking about. END ADD-IT. I actually made a first attempt to leave back in late Dec. or early January and succeeded for 2-3 weeks. You can thank or blame Marlenny for my return. It's all her fault. :P I was actually over the withdrawal entirely and came back in a triggered moment of idle curiosity. And then those damn moldy turtles began to cast their spells... Lest anyone think this thread is a cheap ploy for attention and tender sentiments...well, ok, that's exactly what it is. I want to depart with some closure and au revoirs. I want to go out feeling good about having been here, as well as wishing to dispense some appreciation and gratitude and admiration for some fine folk here. Nope. Who could live without a 'puter after all? How would I get my CD's and DVD's? I never was good at burning bridges completely, anyway. Ah yes, Thee Election, where I first learned all about some of the local celebrities in retrospect. I'd acknowledge the irritatingly brilliant and brilliantly irritating stunt someone pulled, but why feed ego any further? I had forgotten you were one thwarted in the process. Of course, if you'd been elected, you'd really be trapped here, wouldn't you. The stats are a way cool thing though. You're clearly a generous and gracious soul. Yes, yes I want. quote:I enjoyed the thoughtful thoughts, LavaKnight (Matteo). Your English is entirely understandable, but if you think I am Selima, then you might need eyeglasses. That girl's got wicked curves from here to Timbuktu, and I'm kind of tall and rakishly thin like an elf. I'd take Selima with me, but she's got this little thing for Thurly, you see... There's no reason someone including myself can't be part of a forum and live their life with balance, just fine. I'm just not doing it at this point, because I'm investing too much energy into it, and it's been substituing for little things like pushing myself to go make more local friends and hunt me down a mate. Arancaytar – Why did you make a thwarted attempt at leaving a year ago? If it helps, I'll send you a copy of the new book I'll be writing: How To Escape the Spiderweb in Five Brutally Painful Steps. P.S. – MagmaDragoon. I think Italian women are very beautiful. Do you know any who live in Seattle and would love to marry an American man who might be almost as passionate and effusive as she is? Oh, what terrific rows we would have together, but making up would be so very very sweet...oops, I'm daydreaming. quote:A partial compliment from TM is praise indeed. EDIT: Oh, I see Arancaytar hath made me redundant. quote:Sorry to deprive you of any mirth you might have had coming, but it's rather the opposite in your case, my narcissistic friend. In this case, it's not all about you. I can' t for the life of me quite put my finger on it, but there is some odd sense of respect and affection lurking around under the brazen, equal-opportunity offender persona you so lustily employ. I've derived pleasure from our interactions. You take as well as you give. You're wicked sharp. We all seem to speak our own language, and sometimes I think we could all use translators and spare everyone many words, but I love the process of daring to attempt sincere and effective communication and to explore ideas with something of an open mind, even when the process is volatile. Every such exercise is at the very least useful to teach us something of ourselves and to hone our technique. So, my hat's off to the whetstone that sharpens. I know it's good for me, and hopefully others, even if I manage to distance and annoy the hell out of many people on my way to learning humbler, more concise and utilitarian dialog. TM's a good man. I say that because it sounds right, rather than to invite debate over what "good" means or where goodness comes from. Even if it does come from God. ;) [ Tuesday, February 21, 2006 05:38: Message edited by: Synergy ] -------------------- A4 Item Locations A4 Singleton G4 Items List G4 Forging List The Insidious Infiltrator Posts: 2009 | Registered: Monday, September 12 2005 07:00 |
