I think you missed my point, TM, as I essentially agree with everything you just wrote.

What annoys about Axe Body Spray commercials and their ilk is seeking to prey upon the most primal fears and desires with what amount to blatant lies—that their product has anything to do with sexual desirability or viability. The mindset of Madison Avenue is not to tell anything resembling the truth. It is to subvert conscious thinking with direct repeated targeting of the subconscious. If you see insultingly stupid images long enough associating a black cannister of Axe with sex, at some point, on some level, some people will begin to associate the two even if consciously they realize the absurdity of it.

Advertising by its very nature seeks to be subersive—exploiting human greed, fears (this one is huge), and desires to peddle cheap trinkets to anyone uncritical or Pavlovian enough to fall for it.

Where does one begin?

How about those insulting Axe Body Spray commercials which seek to convince post-pubescent American boys that the very whiff of the scent of their product will cause any hot babe within proximity to immeditately go into heat and jump them? Any adolescent who falls for this prurient dreck deserves the inevitable disillusionment to follow.

Besides, it's a known fact that women prefer the smell of vanilla over anything else.

Darn those Chinese and those "interesting times" they keep wishing on us all.

Fortunately, the European infestation of garden gnomes has yet to infect American soil.

Unfortunately, we do seem to reap bumper crops of cheap gaudily-colored plastic lawn flamingos, glowing and wiggling Christmas Santas, and stationary stone garden turtles. (They get fuzzy when the moss starts to grow on them.)

The popularity of the rather delightful French film "Amelie" has also threatened to bleed the European affinity for the garden gnome over onto popular American culture. There is a commerical presently running on American television with a traveling garden gnome, obviously inspired by Amelie. I can't tell you how much this concerns me.

DJMPC—I believe the CIA would love to get their mitts on someone naturally nosy like you.

Seriously, that's good to hear about you though. I think curiosity and the confidence to question things with an open mind is one of the healthiest qualities we can possess. It's when we lock down too tightly about much of anything that arthritis of the soul sets in.

I want to raise kids who are both patient and loving toward others, but also will not hesitate to question whatever is being fed them. Loveable rabble-rousers.

Does Alorael ever actually get mad? I'd kind of like to see what that looks like, if so.

I consider the patiently measured words of our Resident Angel to be a tremendous tribute to his character, by the way, and I don't mind stating it openly—even if it really is just an illusion. Maybe he gets out his aggressions by sniping random passers-by back in the real world. Or maybe it's the Zen-like states induced by excessive skribbane devotion?

Fret not, she of the elusive, but undoubtedly worthy five-star rating. The SICTG™ is well-equipped to deal with these little dilemmas.

One comic strip like Prince Valiant filled a whole newspaper page from top to bottom with truly exquisite artwork. It may be that some of us, even decades after that golden age for a time fanatically collected such classics.

Aha, I note that you're one of the M2 relics to whom Drakey alluded. I still think the authors of M2 stole that level title from a Nitzer Ebb song which predates it.

Kingy — back atcha, buddy. You're a Cancer, aren't you?

Let's pause for a little look at how our SICTG™ comes up with its tasty offerings. The SICTG™ is fully wired for internet access. All Spiderweb history and any conceivable online database is at its immediate retrieval. Let's look a little closer at how it arrived at its latest product, the recently-generated custom title for Belisarius.

The first thing the SICTG™ knew was that Belisarius was a general under the Roman Emperor Justinian. The SICTG™ was a bit embarrassed to admit that it knew this from reading the comic strip Prince Valiant a long time ago.

Consulting the ever-handy Wikipedia, the SICTG™ noticed that one popular legend about Belisarius says that late in his life his eyes were removed courtesy of Emperor Justinian.

Next, the SICTG™ considered recent and even ancient Spiderweb activity. It noted that in the abominable photo threads there has been discussion concerning the eyes of Alec, holder of the Belisarius moniker. Aha, the trusty SICTG™ now knew it had all it needed to go on and calculated the cross-relevance.

With all factors finally integrated, the SICTG™ arrived at the inevitable result of "Eyes Out For You."

NEXT WEEK: "How Hot Dogs Are Made And Ten Other Things You'll Wished You'd Never Learned."

I believe satellite imagery of Iran clearly shows a newly-harvested nukumber patch.

That and Jerusalem being wiped off the map.

Perhaps I failed to mention that the Instant Custom Title Generator™ operates on stream of consciousness, whim, and whimsy?

That's the second time you've expressed concern over your years in as many days. New title generated.

I know Saunders just a little and Arctic not at all, so I leave it to others better equipped to feed the relevant data into the Custom Title Generator™ to come up with appropriate tags for them and anyone else for whom whim and wisdom may strike. That said, I may still be inclined to generate blindly and see what comes out.
