So, here's my scheme for powergaming for both rewards. I don't want to have to attack the gryphons, though I could see substituting it for killing the Fomorian for the little people. I wonder how you "fail" at the latter task? Do you have to face the Fomorian, but back out of combat and report to the little people? How is failing distinguished from simply not having done it yet? Does "failing" simply mean "refusing?" This is a concern until specified. You found the power, but it's late in the game you can do anything with those special stones. The anvil just does what it does, whether you've been down there or not yet, evidently. I am guessing it might not keep burning you if you have gotten a quest for those stones and then go to the crypt. Or maybe it does. Well, my game is broken, because I went into the crypts before I was given the Golden Pelt mission, and now nothing triggers either the dialog with Aidin or the attack of the undead. I'm going to try a Celt Singleton adventure right after I finish my current four-member Celt game. I want the full magic available, but will still build him like a tank too, if possible to get all that in. In my standard four-member Celt party (now at Annwn, close to end-game), I have: 1) Melee meat shield frontman fighter all invested in: Strength, a few Dexterity, Melee, Berserker, 4 Slings, 4 Armor Use, 1 Luck. As Slarty pointed out, Strength is more powerful toward boosting melee damage than either Melee or Berserker. I focus mostly on Strength. I gave him Fast on Feet and Strong Back. 2) Priest Druid invested in: Intelligence, Druidism, Health CIrcle, then bring up War, Beast, Craft, and Spirit Circles as possible. Right now she's at 8,8,4,3,3 in the Circles. I gave her a mimimal amount of melee eventually (training all I could as well) and sling ability of 4 or 5 early on. Every PC gets 1 Luck as soon as possible. I throw 2-3 Faery Lore in for each of my three Druid PCs fairly early on as well. I give each Druid 2 Armor Use, and the Battle Druid got 4 ultimately. I also gave this Priest 8 Herbcraft, enough to make Energy Elixirs, which are the one thing I really find useful in potionry. 3) Battle Druid invested in: Intelligence, Druidism, War Circle, then bring up Health Circle and the rest, with the same melee/sling ability as the priest. Her Circles are now at 8,8,6,7,4. 4) Craft/Spirit Circle Druid invested in: Intelligence, Druidism, and all Circles to the exclusion of nearly all else except 2 Slings, 2 Armor Use, 1 Luck, 1 Faery Lore. I have trained him later in purchaseable battle skills. He is at 12 Druidism with gear, 8 in all Circles. I rely on him to cast Mighty Beast, Ravage Life, Soul Lance, Call Spirit, Doom, Call Hunt, and Clouds of Night, as he is the only one who can. I use a lot of Doom and now Clouds of Night with him. I give him all the Intelligence, Druidism and Circle boosting gear to make him as formidable as possible. He also has the most spell energy available by a good margin. The Healer and Battler Druid each seem wimpy compared to him, but contribute Darts of Ice, Heartshock, Serpent's Coils, Charm Beast, Disrupt Spirit, and healing mostly to good overall effect. I think I'd rather gear more towards having at least two Druids like my fourth one though. He's a mighty force. These builds aren't quite optimized, though I'd say I got the warrior and fourth Druid down quite well. I ignore Defense and Hardiness in everyone, though I buy some for my fighter later. The Druids all got Strong Back and Druid Mastery. They all level up at the same rate and I really like the greater carrying capacity. Nope. I stick several of the less useful Sylak items on the ground at the gate of Vanarium. I have no use for extra food, garments, or trash, or the skull, now that I have the ring from Hagfen. There's really nothing else to do with them besides put them on the ground. I found it odd that Poot wouldn't actually ask to buy any rare items like these either. I guess she's all talk, but with her prices, he should be able to afford it. Slarty, you described the sequence in the vault under the Temple correctly, best I know. You open the W sarcophagus, and it summons some Nether Beasts back in the main tomb room. After killing them, you're supposed to find the Golden Pelt in the E sarcophagus, I believe. In this game, I did steps one and two, but found nothing special in the sarcophagus. I hadn't been given the quest for the Golden Pelt yet. I wonder if I made it not possible to trigger properly by attempting it prematurely. So, hmm, a perplexing situation here. I have been to Samael in Valley of the Sould to free Orim's soul for Aidin in the Temple of Brigantia. Samael wants the Golden Pelt from Aidin. I return to Aidin, but can find no dialog option about the pelt with him, but he still asks me to get Orim for him. I have already cleared out the crypt area under the temple where the pelt supposedly is found after Aidin tells me where to get it. I don't think I found the pelt there when I was down there long ago. The only thing I can think of is I got this pelt back then, but accidentally sold it. But I really don't think I did. How do I trigger the dialog option with Aidin? Maybe I found a bug. Anyone have an inkling what is going on with this one? Originally written by Randomizer: 6. One meat shield up front hacking at Retptrakos used two invulnerability potions. My three druids created four Wind Warriors and entered all hasted and buffed from the back entrance into the NW treasure room and used Doom and Heartshock to whittle him after casting Coils on him twice. I barely needed the second Invulnerability draught. Reptra only summoned two caratydids. It did take me a number of attempts to time it all right. According to the script, there is an egg near Goagh-Nar. Did anyone find it and what does it do? Do you mean an easter egg? A literal egg as an item? There is a hidden area with a shade outdoors nearby—the missing fifth lost shade I couldn't find in my first full game. I think Jeff made its location a LOT more obvious subsequently. If you know what I mean. 8. In Castle Aethdoc's north wing, piercing sight shows a room near the path to the eye and behind the banquet hall, but I can't find a secret door to it. I noticed that too last night, and could not find any way into it as Celts. 1) That seems vaguely, and perversely familiar now. 2) The FAQ suggests there is a blessed battle axe in the other box. Goagh-Nar is not a place I can return to, so this game, I lose that and whatever is in the other mystery box (the one in the picture I posted.) Looks like the ticket is to get KEYS I-V before going into Goagh-Nar. I would have thought it required no more than IV, since it is early in the quests, relatively. 4) I think I have answered my own question. I'll start: 1) What does the Wand of Carrunos do? Or, more specifically, what does Aura of Carrunos do? I thought it might cast Terror on a foe, or maybe Curse, but I can't tell. 2) There is a box in Goagh-Nar a bit to the NE of the main entry which is next to a box with a Blessed Spear in it. This box seems unopenable. Is it openable? I only have Keys I-IV with me while here this game. The old NG FAQ suggests it takes one of the keys. I could have gotten Key V from the Selkies, I suppose, but getting Key VI would be a ridiculous wait before entering Goagh-Nar. 3) What does Sylak's Wisdom Rock do exactly? 4) In Goagh-Nar, there is a note made by the Fomorian prisoner in the SE cell saying to press both eyes to open something. Where is this done? 5) I found a second box that won't unlock, so evidently, KEY V or VI is needed in Goagh-Nar. In this picture, note the two small square rooms (?) I have not found access into? Maybe I'm just weird, but I kind of like not having too much ultimate freedom to go anywhere at any time in the early game. In playing Nethergate, for instance, I find I rack up many quests on my list, and almost spin in circles trying to figure out where to go next and which to do in what order at times. Thankfully, it has bridges which somewhat limit when you can venture further. Somewhere inbetween on accessibility to the world seems best to me. If I were to design a BoA scenario, I would want to create a sojourn that is a long trek with no backtracking at all. Being able to just wander around and exlore is fine if you are explorers. I can add the charms in later, if anyone is doing math with this. Note that there are four Mental Focus Charms. :) Conclusion: A ferociously powerful build. This degree of extremism was not necessary. There were numerous times I wanted a couple more Strength, and I'd recommend being willing to throw a couple more at Strength earlier in the game. By endgame, as you see here, I don't want to be wearing all the Strength-Enhancing gear in order to carry myself around. Valeta felt a bit vulnerable at certain points in this game. The stategy was stealth, careful picking off of individual or smaller groups of foes at times, lots of Mental Magic—which worked great, and strong offensive magic. The best defense was a strong offense all in all. Note that I was able to make it not only to Level 45, but to Leve 46 killing everything. I am not sure if there is any possible way to get to Level 47. This was pretty optimized. I still like the Infiltrator over the Servile for numerous reasons, but it's all about what kind of game you are in the mood to play. This game was very satisfying for me.
