A4 Bugs in Avernum 4

Here's a weird one...

Battled the chitrach queen today in the Eastern Gallery chitrach tunnels. I managed to defeat her with all 4 members of my party intact. However, one of my guys was sprayed with acid and managed to die just as the queen was defeated and the victory dialog box came up. Oddly enough, I heard his death scream, but he was still alive with 0 hit points. Even funnier, I was able to use my priest to cast a heal spell on this fallen fighter which allowed him to go from 0 hit points to 35, and then to a full healing.

Anyone experienced something like this before?

Cotra area - some quests not registering as complete in Avernum 4

Oh do I feel like a total noob now...
Thanks for the hint on Grobb quest.

Re-reading the quest description for Cotra Bandit Bounty, I just realized it was Augustus, the mayor of Silvar who offers the bounty. Not the mayor of Cotra.

Guess I'll read these things a bit more carefully from here on out. Sorry.

Cotra area - some quests not registering as complete in Avernum 4

I'm in the Cotra area and noticed that 2 quests I completed successfully won't clear off my list.

The GROBB Axe quest - found the axe, talked to Marshall in western Cotra. No option to tell him/her about the axe is present in the dialog options, yet the axe is in my special items list.

Then, the bandit quest where you need to take out the Yi Mogi (sp?) after killing the bandits underneath Cotra. I found the paperwork, talked to the Mayor and that merchant woman near the eastern entrance. They told me to talk to Yi Mogi, which I did, and then killed her. Now when I go back to the Mayor, he tells me that he heard about the fight and how regretful it is that she's dead. But the Bandit Quest option is still in my list of oustanding quests.

Is this a bug or am I missing some steps?

I find this to be the exact opposite. In my case at least.

I always keep my CD's safe. Espically my spidweb ones.

I'm the same way. It's the registration codes that I'll misplace every now and then.

What difficulty are you playing at?

I'm playing at "Normal" on my first time through.
I'll focus on using acid spray as well as following the other pointers. The trouble I seem to have is Hrickis' lightning can kill off most of my party rather quickly. Plus, he seems to summon plenty of undead creatures which makes things even tougher.

What about the pylon though?
Should I focus on destroying it first or just work on dazing and attacking Hickris exclusively?

Something about this post just made me giggle.
Perhaps it's just super early in the morning for me or something.

I'll be buying BoE after I finish up Avernum 4 (yeah, I'm going backwards a little) so I'll be sure to post some questions and topics then.

Northeast of Formella there's a crazy necromancer by the name of Hriknis (not sure how to spell his name, too early in the morning...) who fights your party with the aid of a green pylon plus some summoned undead creatures.

I've tried to finish him off several times and he's just too strong. My characters are all around level 10. It seems that if I attack the pylon, my characters get confused or cursed. If I destroy the pylon, Hriknis and his summoned creatures take acid damage. Yet, he's able to cast some pretty nasty spells which wipe my party out very quickly. I've tried casting Haste, shield and war blessing as well as summoning a few of my own beasts to provide some extra bodies.

I'm kind of stumped. BTW, I did manage to to clear that testing area not far from this Hriknis' lair so I'm not a total noob to the combat.

I'd certainly like to know as well since I'm pondering a similar purchase.
My gut tells me that the latest games should run just fine.

I suppose in the absolute worst-case scenario, we could all just use or buy an old Mac for the Exile series. I mean, old 1st generation iMacs can be had for under $50 via eBay and some online surplus retailers.

No worries. I just sort of wanted to get that little nitpick out into the open whether or not Jeff takes it into consideration or not.
Game's still great though.

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate topic to post on this forum, so mods feel free to delete if this is deemed an unacceptable post.

IMG today posted a link to basilisk games' official Eshalon: Book 1 page which reveals the first screenshots. Don't know about you, but I'm sort of interested since the early build does bear a resemblance to SW's Avernum games in terms of graphics style. Of course, the Mac version isn't due out until summer and even then nobody really knows how well it plays or what the story and plot are like.

Anyone else interested in this title? Thoughts and opinions?

Quest List in Avernum 4
Warrior

I have to say that I really like the "job board" feature in A4. Since I enjoy completing as many quests as possible I wouldn't mind seeing the available quests list revamped a bit in future Avernum games.

Specifically, keep current/open quests in bold or colored font. And when a quest is completed, don't remove it from the list, but rather mark it completed or in a faded font.

This would make it easier to keep a running tally of which quests you took on and finished for subsequent replays. As it is, removing quests from the list upon completion can make it difficult to remember.

Recently downloaded the Avernum 4 Mac demo and became instantly addicted after a brief hiatus from the series. IMO, I like the Geneforge-esque graphics. Granted, it took some time to get used to , but all in all I think Jeff made the right decision.

I think my first time through will be around 250 days as well (up to day 98 right now and still on the Dhonal's Keep region). I'm really taking my time on this one on the initial playthrough!
