Are all the WTFs directed towards Nalyd's disturbing image (completely understandable) or the first chapter of Episode four? 'Cause I thought the latter was actually quite good.

If you were referring to high schools in that point, you have to compare apples to apples. Compare top public high schools to top private high schools, rather than comparing an average public high school to a good private school.
Not necessarily. For example, in NYC there are about only 9 good top high schools. All of which are divided into 5 boroughs. Now if we take the Bronx, we’ll have to reduce those nine to only two top high schools from which to apply (unless you’re okay with your 14 year old taking the subway at 5:30am to spend an hour an a half to get to school). And said high schools have a limited number of students they can accept. So you are forced to compare the average public high school since that’s where most of the students will end up.

You also have to be aware that not all states have a Berkeley (a public college who offers an education just as good as, if not better than, any private college). I can’t think of any good public college in NYC that can even attempt to match Columbia or NYU’s education. I know CUNY and SUNY schools offer a somewhat good education, at somewhat of an affordable price. But it is still not cheap, and it is still not Columbia.

Edit: I've been reading Sourcery by Terry Pratchett. Following Mort by the same author.

Hear, hear!

I happen to disagree with about 90% of what you’ve just said, Nioca. English is my second language, and when I first started the boards my grammar was quite embarrassing. I made a lot of mistakes, which is why I hate looking back at some of my old posts. However, I don’t remember being treated bad by anyone on those grounds. I’m thankful that the members in these boards are the way they are, because they actually helped my English. They would correct my grammar at times, but not in a pompotous manner and I appreciated it. I seem to recall Magma feeling the same way I do about this.

I did get warned and even insulted a couple of times. But it was because in said times either I was spamming stupidly (and yes there is a difference between spamming for fun, and acting like an idiot while you are at it. I’d know, I’ve spammed a lot :P ), making pointless threads, or speaking of things that I knew nothing about. I am one of the ones that have said “This isn't a forum for rocket scientists, people! It's a game forum!” quite a lot. Only when I see people over-react in a debate or taking things seriously. However, that has never affected me nor a new member. It has only affected those in the debate. If you aren’t prepared to deal with that kind of environment then don’t get involved in it. Nothing says you have to participate in a debate. Overall, newbies are often warned to stop spamming, stop making pointless posts/topics, and to calm down way before any insulting or harsh actions are made.

Every forum has its good and bad things. It’s been said a number of times that we prefer been seen as “elitists” than as a forum filled with pointless topics that go on forever to the point where no one reads them, where all of its members are illiterates, and everyone behaved as if they were eight.

Edit: Fixed quote.

God, this topic is turning out to be one of those "let's bring it back twice at month" topics. Kind of like the BoG ones. Which reminds me, we haven't had a Karma topic in a while. Karma topic!!

Actually Ados, that's a great idea. I regret not having done it myself. Well almost, I met my best friends from school during Freshman Year. I have a friend who went to a community college for 2 years, pumped up his GPA, and then transfered into my school. He saved over $20,000 and got a high GPA without putting in much effort. Not to say that all community colleges are easier than private schools, we have a couple of really good ones. However, the one I'm referring to is like extended HS.

Anyways, I just finished my Junior year in college. To not being in school! I'm currently an Accounting Major who has still not made up her mind about whether or not she should go for her Masters.

Edit: I might be minoring in Italian as well. A minor in my school is a joke. You can get a minor on any foreign language with just four to five extra classes.

You do know that not all credit cards have annual fees. And most of them offer 0% interest rate until you pay off the amount. I barely get charged any interest at all, and I have several credit cards.

"Why would the credit, whether the rescuee is a loved one or no, not be deserved? The point is that the rescuer would get credit for rescuing a person, period."

I'm not really going into whether or not you should get credit. A life has been saved, why worried about the rest? I get the point. I'm referring to the person's own moral and ethics. If it were me, I'd be glad that I made that mistake and ended up saving a life. But I wouldn't be really praising myself when I know that if I had known that person weren't a loved one I would've just stood there and watched him/her died.

God, do not even start with Utilitarianism. I guess it'll depend on what you mean when you say 'commendable'. I don't think you should be praised for doing a great thing when you did it solely out of an error/disbelieve, which is what I believe your friend was saying. It's a good thing that you saved a life in the end, and you should feel good about it but it's not something to be praised for since you didn't mean to save that person's life.

"In the end, reason doesn't matter. What matters is the outcome." Yes and no. In cases as this, I don't think you should beat yourself up. Be happy that a life is saved and just think of the outcome. I can see many other different scenarios where that statement would be false though. I'm with Lenar here, "The way I see it: I see a person about to get hit by a car, I'm going to push them out of the way, regardless of who it is." I'm not sure how I would react in said situation, but I'd like to think I wouldn't panic and would manage to push them out of the way.

Edit: funny how I noticed that the quote needed fixing like two days later :P

I also think Nico would've won, but not because I left. I'd never leave a fight! Nevar! I'm just not the violent killing type, especially with people I like and have not done anything to inspire said rage. I can be violent in a good way though ;)

I get out of school in exactly one day and 23 hours. I'm officially three finals and two tax returns away from saying goodbye to the Spring '07 term. I cannot wait. I didn't find this term as hard as last one, and it certainly went by faster. But four months off school look like sweet heaven right now. Again, cannot wait.

1. Infernal would slash Excalibur before he even gets a chance. The girl is fierce.

2. DV.

3. Personally I'd prefer Lenar. But the SA is so destructive. Then again he is younger and might end up destroying himself. Winner: Lord Grim.

4. Andra. Quite an easy match. Poor Thralni doesn't stand a chance.

5. Lazarus.

6. As Zeviz put it "Spray Acid! Winner: Randomizer."

7. Nikki.

8. Mmm, probably the hardest for me to decide. I'd have to go with Saunders.

Alright. Either I have completely lost my mind, this is the stranges deja vu ever, or UBB is acting up again.

Was this topic and most of its reply just written today? Because I could swear on everything I own that I've read this topic before. I can remember reading exactly everything Zorro, Slarty, and Kel said at least a month ago.

Edit: And remember that this is my sanity you're all playing with. So don't even think about lying and claiming this topic wasn't here before. And yes I'm looking at you, Imban.

Go me!. I seriously thought Jeff was going to lock the topic. But apparently boredom wins once again. And I'm quite dissapointed on all these people not watching Southpark. It's so sad.

So the anecdote question... So far it's 11:40am. I finally figured out the right time to leave the house in order to catch the bus. And my lil brother, who for like the first time ever, was ready before me kept hurrying me to then decide to use the bathroom which made us late and forced run to the bus stop.So I got on the bus, and then the couple of trains, and then the other bus, and then I got to school. I took my first class, and I'm not sure if I've said this before but I have the funniest teacher ever. He has this thick Egipian accent, and his catch phrase is "You feel me?". So damn funny. Well he was making this anecdote about some accounting job offer he rejected because he used to hate the woman. Well someone heard date. And he goes "Date? No date. I never cheat while I'm married. Unless it's a bad wife. Becuase, if you can't find food at home...." So funny. Then again, it's all about the delivery. Oh and my second class got canceled, so now I'm free for two hours. Hooray!!
