I think it's worth comparing pot (illegal) with tobacco (legal). I know many, many smokers. I've probably met a few potheads, but only a couple who have openly admitted it. Who cares? I don't want theories or promises, I just want an entertaining book, and one that's full of disappointments ain't very entertaining.

I'm hoping that what happened when she sketched out the plotline for the series she found she had more books left to go than she had stories for, so she just packed a bunch of filler into Phoenix and the the last two books will go back to being good.

I'm aware that this year's movie is Goblet of Fire. I'm even looking forward to it.

I disliked Phoenix because it was pointless. Really, what happened? They dealt with annoying bureaucracy. A major character got offed for no particular reason. Harry was all angsty. And the big reveal that was built up to all through the book was fantastically lame. After Goblet of Fire, I expected there to be a whole new tone to the remaining books. But we don't get war or anything like that, we get an irritating teacher. It's just really anticlimactic.

EDIT: The earlier books were pretty good. Not exactly classic literature, but entertaining.

I'd say it was less the media frenzy and more the fact that he's a freaking wierdo who has changed his skin color, dangled his own child out a window, and freely admits to sharing a bed with young boys. Someone accuses a guy like that of being a child molester, and I think "Yeah, I wouldn't be suprised."

Not sure what you're implying with your last sentence. In any event, we don't run our own newsroom, so it's probably beside the point.

From my (limited) knowledge of the US legal system, in the case of a deadlocked jury, I believe a mistrial is declared and they can do the whole thing all over again.

I expected the guy to be found guilty, but the jury are obviously in a much, much better position to decide than I am.

Given that he's been dead for a long, long time, I doubt that an adaptation of his work in a language he wouldn't have understood to a medium he would never have imagined made the slightest difference to him one way or the other.

Jackson is clearly broken in the head and quite creepy. Sure, I wouldn't put it past him to molest children, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it happened.

I don't have all the facts, and the jury presumably had as many as were available, so I'll go by their decision.

And I really hope I don't have to hear anything more about it on the news. The starting of the trial is a valid news story, the verdict is a valid news story, but the updates every couple of days were ridiculous (especially considering it wasn't even happening in my country). "Accuser glares at Jackson" is not a valid news story.

Depending on your definition of 'active'.

Really, these days a lot of people here just kinda fade into one big amorphous blob with a frequently changing screenname for me. Most the time I can't tell Riibu from Aran from Dolphin from Toenail from whoever. I think pretty much everyone has some silly gimmick, but I only notice the ones that were around back when not everybody had one (Imban's sunglasses, Alorael's sig, etc).

Thuryl's cool. He's a fellow aussie, and he's really easy to have a good conversation with, regardless of whether it's about junk food or the nature of morality.

Sushi was one of my faves, back when he was around.
