I mean it's in the download itself. You have this file already. Even if you didn't, you could just redownload it.

Bah, I'll just send it to you. No harm in it.

EDIT: Sent.

Wow. Yeah, either that, or take notes like a normal person.

I don't know if the BoA docs recommended this (I don't think they did), but the BoE docs recommended using flags whose x-coordinates agreed with your town number -- ie using flags (0,0), (0,1), (0,2), ... , (0,29) in town 0, flags (1,0), (1,1), ... , (1,29) in town 1, etc. Then just take notes on what your flags mean.

It's not like you'll ever run out. I don't know why you would want to reuse them. That sounds far too dangerous.

EDIT: Reading your method a bit further, I have no idea why you're messing around with variables. Just set the flags directly, and it should have the same effect.

It should have come with the game. It's in the file Blades of Avernum Manual.pdf. The walkthrough is in Chapter 12: Hint Book for the Demo.

I mean, I can send you the manual if you really want, but....

Count on medieval kings ruling for an average of 1 generation -- or 20 years. Some rule longer, some rule shorter, but that means that if Stewart was Emperor 100 years ago and Prazac is Empress now, you could fit three Hawthornes in the interim, easy -- as well as an interregnum in which Garzahd wielded imperial power.
By that same reasoning, we can count on Prazac NOT being Empress at the time of VoDT, which I put at twenty years after A3, when Prazac was Empress.

My chronology puts Stewart's rule ending at about 775, then Hawthorne's going from then until 817 when he is killed, and then Prazac's beginning around that time (possibly with Garzahd as some sort of regent until he dies in something like 821, although I can't remember any evidence for this in the games) and lasting until at least sometime after 833. This counts on a forty-year reign for Hawthorne, but that's not unheard of.

But again, no one that I know of agrees with me on this, so :P .

You'll need the opening stone, which you get from the spiders. (The ones that everyone keeps killing.) Of course, you'll need to talk to some other beings first...

Explore the lower part of the school first. Once you've met the people who tell you what to ask the spiders, go back and do a mission for the spiders. That will get the the opening stone that will get you past the gates.

Erika in A3 says: "I was a mage on the surface, working for the Empire. There was a power struggle. We all fought for Emperor Hawthorne's favor. My side lost. I, Patrick, Solberg and others were cast down into the depths, and I, their leader, was cursed!"

Erika in A2 says: "Oh, sweet Garzahd, the man, the vermin who sent me down here. Now he is in Avernum, and I want him dead!"

Erika in A1 says: "It was his [King Hawthorne's] father who sent me down here, and he [King Hawthorne] who accelerated the pace at which people were exiled."

The *i/Drakey/TM plotline accounts for this by saying that Hawthorne's father was also named Hawthorne, and that Garzahd was indirectly responsible for sending Erika down because of the power struggle.

EDIT: I tend to think that's cow digestive byproduct, personally. I say that Stewart was Hawthorne's father, and he set the process in motion, accounting for the A1 quote. I say also that Hawthorne himself was the one that did it. But I'm the only one who thinks that.

Quick couple questions in Blades of Avernum

1. WHY THE **** DO PEOPLE ALWAYS KILL THE SPIDERS? *deep breaths, deep breaths* This is the topic you want, probably.

2. The spiders will help you with this, I believe.

3. Black bar doors? Er, not really. You just have to work your way around by going through other rooms.

4. Red, but I don't drink wine, so I wouldn't know.

EDIT: Er, and you may also want this topic, depending on what exactly you meant by question 1.

Well, the order also came from Emperor Stewart, and unless you're willing to believe that Stewart was Prazac's successor, he has to be a predecessor of Hawthorne. That means that the school was closed prior to A3 anyway.

ERROR IN CUT SCENE in Blades of Avernum Editor
Off With Their Heads
Member # 4045

Well, the first and most obvious problem is that set_state_continue isn't a short. It's a void. You want something like:

choice = run_dialog(1);
if (choice == 2)
set_state_continue(54);
I'd be surprised if any part of this cut scene ran.

Also, about halfway through state 54, you start omitting force_instant_terrain_redraw (right after "Surprising, a pitiful band of adventurers").

Additionally -- and this is just a cosmetic thing, but still -- you'll almost never want to use pause(1). That's a tenth of a second. That's hardly even noticeable. If someone's running, you probably want pause(5). If someone's walking, you want pause(7) or pause(8) or so.

EDIT: Just saw the part at the end. Well, yeah. Just copy and paste, though.

Which line is 145?

This error means that BoA is reading one of your strings as containing more than 254 characters (or 256 if you include the quotation marks). It can also show up if you forget an end quote, because it thinks that the string keeps going until it runs into the opening quote for the next string.

You're probably missing a bunch of force_instant_terrain_redraw calls. You have to do that after every freakin' change you make that you want to show up in the game.
