since i live in austria (gmt +1h), the time setting on this board really confuses me. is it possible to adjust the viewed time to my time zone? ive found none such option so far.

though ive never really played a4, i prefer the idea of combining lock picking and mage skill. ive always neglected thieves since they are utterly useless and annoying.

well, looking for it and retrieving it of course makes you stronger, but i honestly dont think thats important. you should kill hawthorne right before you leave avernum anyway, and so it shouldnt make a difference.
i have no idea why it is so horrible to attempt the teleportation with 4 brooches. what happens anyway? if you die, just reload. or what?

to be honest, im sick of the vahnatai. yeah you spelled them right.
i hate plagues and diplomacy and stuff, i miss the warfare-feeling.
and i hate rentar. im so glad she dies at the end of a4.

the same way you develop a relationship to a car or your comics. or your girlfriend. but thats another story.

it appears to me that effectiveness mostly cuts down the fun. one of the best parties ive ever played was an all-warrior party. 2 sliths (pole), 2 nephils (melee). all have bows, lore etc blabla, which adds up really well. as a variant, all had priest lvl 1 and mage lvl 3, but healing, curing, blessing, light and hasting. of course thats problematic later, without diving restoration and divine warrior, but there you go.

edit: btw, what the hell is up with the poll? the numbers on the second questions cant be right.

i fully concur with drakeybaby on that one.

edit #1: its much easier to develop a personal relationship to only one or two chars than to the full load. and i think fewer chars are more effective.

edit #2: though i prefer two chars over one.

at lvl 3, cloud of blades can kill a black shade in 1 turn, and you always see where the guardians are.
my attack of choice, unless theyre all standing on different ends of the battlefield.

are you talking about the isolated hut-encounter, where they attack you after resting there?

i remember several such encounters in the northern islands.

oh wait, why did i think he was talking about a2? whatever, i think thats quite much the only place to find so many drakes at once, except only the drake lord-fight and the ice drakes in western footracer province, a3.

and please, forget about trying to fry the drakes with any of these fancy high-end spells. just take a stick and bang the hell out of them.

i think its a very good idea, and works perfectly fine in diablo 2, patch 1.10, where it was implemented just like you meant.
i really dont think it would unbalance the game too much, it would only give you the extra edge a hero needs.

often colliding software components can cause problems like that.
try using diskwarrior or conflictcatcher to check your hd.
but then, thats quite improbable if its the same on all 3 macs.
what else... uh... having the game installed on an almost full hd or hd-section could be the cause.
ah, what do i know.

you have a point there. for some reason, drakes seem to be much harder to stand against than supposedly more powerful enemies.
the best way i found to kill them is to use your magic only to defend. arcane shield, sanctuary etc should keep you from dying, and hasting+blessing should make it possible for your fighter to kill a drake each round.
this works best with a fighterpriest//fightermage-party.

i know, i just wondered where he found all those weird names. i mean, theyre beautiful and everything, (except footracer maybe), but wouldnt it be weird to be introduced to a ms. midori?

anyway, any more clues on solberg? (i wont ask about starrus since i suspect his role is explained in a4)
will he still be in the triad? who else?

but seriously, avernum mostly consists of storyline, texts, messages etc., does jeff do that on his own too?

btw, where does the name krizsan come from? (since his wife was mentioned, and i believe i heard thats her name... or was krizsan a girl of jeffs past... hm)

oh wait, im getting too much ot. uhh.... oh yes! assuming that a5 will take place after a4, i think avernum should be sealed off again. by some kind of accident maybe. to get that exile-feeling back, you know? and solberg and micah should be replaced. i like the guys, but 4 games are enough, theyre too old.
and i would like to see x in a more active role.

oh! and i would very much appreciate a more flexible dialogue.
i mean, apart from the much-discussed option of typing in things to say etc etc etc, i would like to be adressed correctly. a singleton should be spoken to as a single being, and maybe filling in <PN> (=player name) would be nice.

hm. i apologize for the tone of my last comments. i knew spidweb was small, but not that small.
of course avernum is not a graphics-game; for me it has always been a flair-game, a replacement for an adventure-book of sorts.
but still, mentioned feature seems well worth it to me.

er... if jeff does the programming, what do the other two do? share the story-part?

@vaecrius: oh come on. avernum really is no big game, and those sprites are quite much all you see through the whole game. i think there should be some for everything, even the various armor-types etc etc, like it already is in some games, like in diablo 2 for example. would that really be that much an expense?
