I agree with Sir David on at least one issue: I've heard it both ways, and 'go-old rings' just sounds retarded. Also, Abrahamic religions tend to be more violent due to the simple fact of their origin: they come from an area of the world where you have better odds being ruled by violent madmen than trying to go out into the world on your own, and if those violent madmen offer you power of your own, you'd be more than happy to go and make others subscribe to this way of thinking. -------------------- In a word, gay. --Bob the Impaler Posts: 2367 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Because if we're going to kill a hundred thousand of them, catapult them into the stone age, and let the pack of vultures the old leader kept in line loose on them, we might as well get the old leader. Also, watch the reactionaries flipflop from 'Who cares about Saddam Hussein?' to 'Where were you when we were spending all that time trying to capture this evil, evil man?' *sigh* -------------------- In a word, gay. --Bob the Impaler Posts: 2367 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

The Quaker faith believes in the universality of God's gifts of revelation, and that the only way to properly get close to God is through thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. It is a faith which greatly values egalitarianism (they gained a lot of antipathy from the English aristocracy by refusing to call them by the plural 'you', using instead 'thou', singular and more familiar), democracy, and freedom of religion, as well as introspection and free speech. We feel that the state of the 'holidays' thus far are generally repugnant, with the majority of people using them as a secular bacchanal to greed and social posturing, and the small remainder either shanghai'd into celebrating it or bemoaning the fact that they can't use it as an excuse to burn heretics any longer. Quakerism is notable in that it has, historically, been on the progressive side, and it is strongly peaceful and tolerant, being one of the few Christian denominations to recognize gay marriage until it was federally outlawed in the 50s. The approach to religion is intensely democratic; people recognize that secular study does not bring one closer to God in any way, and thus clergy are useless at best, and ruinous at worst. It is also notable for being the only major, durable religion in history which hasn't committed some kind of sanctioned atrocity. And now you are going to tell me that I am actually an Amish who likes oatmeal, despite the fact that I searched for my faith for years, am very secure in it, and know exactly what it stands for, and you are an idiot who could not tell me when the Civil War ended, much less what *yours* stands for. FYAD, sir. An hour apiece, more or less. It'd be less, but I'm a stickler for hand-pixeling, and I couldn't use the spraypaint tool on the death anim for the last one without feeling dirty Also, Dingy (you don't mind if I call you that, right?): What purpose would rotating those serve? I'd try it out and see how I liked it, but I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to old work. I intend to rise up bright and early on Christmas Day -- around 3:00 PM -- and walk briskly without running to Frémont Street, where I shall proceed to strut about the local Hard Rock wearing nothing except a comically oversized foam finger emblazoned with "#1" just above my penis, singing the Horst Wessel Song and flapping my arms bonelessly as if I am a tentacle demon emulating a flightless waterfowl, all the while forcing my friends to chant passages from 'Das Kapital' at me in eccalasaisical Latin until they pass out. In other words, nothing out of the ordinary. Eh, you have a point over baroque. My biggest pet peeve is people singing along to music, though, and the repetitive, simplistic nature of baroque tends to intensely annoy me.
