But since I'm qualified to answer and have time:

It's ugly, but I've seen it work.

Brett Bixler's BoA Louvre site has a submission form that relies entirely on client side code. What happens is that you fill out the form, and get redirected to your email client "Compose" window, from where you send the email yourself.

This is accomplished by making your form like the following:

<form action="mailto:email@address.com?SUBJECT=Web Form Submission">

[... HTML input fields]

</form>
Note that this is very unreliable: It will not work for people who have no local mail client (which surprisingly exist), the submitted data can only be parsed by a human, etc.

You're probably better off giving people your email address and telling them what information to include in their manually sent message, since it's more reliable and about as convenient.

There is such a thing as email, which has the advantage of not advertising the site to the general public.

The topic was moved to the mod board. We mods like to hoard warez for our own personal use. :P

He found a site offering a pirated SW game, and thought the best way to call attention to it would be to start a new topic on General and share it with everyone.

It wasn't.

Sorry for the superfluous topic; I just couldn't bear it any more. :rolleyes:

Just to head off any further questions or encouragements in my direction, I'll say that there is absolutely no way I will have even six consecutive hours free in the next week, let alone 24. I'm not in.

Um, no. There were several problems with the plot, but if anything I appreciated the realism of avoiding the last battle being decided by a McGuffin introduced in the first book...

After the greatest plot twist was Harry's death and return, cleaning up Voldy was more of a resolution than a climax.

To the contrary... as far as persons go, she didn't kill anyone who would have made Harry lose the will to live. If anything, the death of Lupin and Tonks put a greater burden on him through being the godfather of their child (although he didn't know they were dead when he went).

Frankly, I would have been more surprised if he *hadn't* returned. Far too many loose ends.

Normally I wouldn't dream of it, but given your reputation for scripting, Niemand...

You wouldn't believe the kind of magic we've researched. It's spooky. I haven't seen what Niemand does in his work, myself, but prepare to see wizardry that has not hitherto been seen.

So, regarding that RPG Tyran mentioned a while back...

I tried the demo, and yeah, I kind of like it. A bit tricky to navigate if you're used to the turn-wise gameplay of Avernum. It's very clearly based on the Diablo interface, from the inventory to the combat and those red/blue health and magic counters.

Unfortunately, after spending some time in it, I mouthed off to a thief without realizing the encounter was way out of my level range, and got a lesson in saving often. :P

Tyran, thanks! :)

(Also, I just saw a trailer for the film version of His Dark Materials a few days ago, and am extremely happy. There is no particular thread to put this, so this one was a best fit.)

But the scientists of the surface were not idle. With the aid of the engimatic natives (which, incidently, have two elbows on each arm), they erected a shield to protect the planet from the scorching rays of the sun (incidently, the shield glows green). They also have recruited you, intrepid adventurer! With your trusty parasol, you are destined to storm the underground bunkers, hoping to seize freedom for your nation.

Or, you know, just some high SPF sunscreen. The game will be pretty open-ended that way.

Smarts is the most exclusive disco in town.
Everyone welcome.

And in the follow-up sequel, the underground empire realizes what a den of vipers it brought into being on the surface. They invade in masses. All looks grim until...

ALIENS! With an affinity to crystal and a tendency to carry grudges!
