So Aristotle's formal and material causes are more or less parallel to Plato's form and substance? -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Apples to Apples depends a lot on the group of people you have. You need people who are creative, and the more shared culture, the better. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

You left off a lot of music, actually. The ending theme, "To Far Away Times", is easily, easily my favorite piece of video game music ever. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

When it was originally released, Chrono Trigger received gross praise, but was also ridiculed in some circles for its total lack of difficulty compared to earlier RPGs. CT itself even contains this jab, in the programmer's ending. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

...ironically, I think all the anti-muffin scenario comments have had the opposite effect. We're going to end up with three or four muffin scenarios now. Let's get organized right now so they make sense when you put them together: somebody can do Blueberry Muffin, somebody can do Bran Muffin, Corn Muffin, and so on. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I'm not sure anyone has tested it specifically in G4, but yeah, that's what that ability has done in the past, so presumably it still does that. More specifically, it should affect melee, missile, and magic attacks. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I think the Nethergate sprites used the same sprite as the Avernum imps. Or something like that. And how does "X would be more than Y" imply that Y is greater than zero? -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I'd like to second Alorael's shout out to TransAmerica. It's a great game. In my old gaming group it was our default backup game whenever we couldn't agree on what to play. It's fast, it can accomodate numbers of players that most games don't, and unlike every other game, I've never met anyone who hates it. Speaking of hate: I really despise Elfenland. It has so many decision points, and they're pretty much all meaningless. Plus, the capital of Elfenland is the Elvenhold, which is just phonologically repulsive. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Fireball Island, while definitley not a contender for best board game by any criteria, is unintentionally hillarious and has somewhat interesting mechanics despite itself. So it's my favorite for more or less than same reasons that Captain Planet is my favorite cartoon. Of mores serious fare, I'm a fan of Tongiaki. I was going to mention Guillotine and Bohnanza, but those would technically be card games. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Really? Wow. Now that I think about it, my testing, which was years ago, mostly just used the displayed hit bonuses as its data point. Maybe those cap off before the defensive bonuses do. But I'm almost sure they never went above 40% and +8, even with multiple spells involved. Sheesh. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Is the formal cause sort of a systemically explained cause, then? At any rate that makes much more sense. Maybe that wasn't the best translation. Philosophy certainly isn't the easiest thing to translate. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Reading the description, one thing that I like is that it sounds like you have made it connected to the world of Avernum that we know from the games, but also distinct, so that it will fit with the game story but not conflict with it. There aren't too many scenarios like that. Sounds promising Thralni. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

My impression, as someone who has browsed many of the relevant topics and sites, but not delved deeply into any of them, is that people at large responded with mixed but generally positive feelings to the scenarios, which were clearly expertly crafted but frequently challenging and sometimes drawn out. Exodus drew more criticism than Bahs. But even those who were disappointed tended to praise Kel's work. Unfortunately, among the designers, aka the "Blades community," several very vocal people were extremely nasty about attacking the scenarios, and basically acted like malicious jerks. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

1. If Spidweb closed these forums, what would you do? - Probably waste less time. Well, maybe not. 2. If you could be any creature from a Spidweb game, what would you be? - Maybe a griffon. 3. Who would you like to see as a moderator? - A better question would be "who would I not be confused to see made a mod?" That question has fewer answers; of those not already mods, probably just Student of Trinity and Dikiyoba. Maybe Zeviz. 4. If you had to change your user name, what would you change it to? - This is a pretty dumb question for these boards. 5. What's your favorite spell? - Bovine Thud. Oh, you mean in a Spiderweb game? Sever Seal for the atmosphere, Flame Cloud 6. What city in the Avernum series would you want to rule? - Formello 7. How old are you? - 24 8. What country would you like to live in besides the one you're in already - Plenty 9. Your favorite Spidweb game is... - Exile II 10. Am I annoying? - ... -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Additional blessing spells only multiply the effect if you cast it at relatively low Intelligence. At high Int a single bless spell can get you up to a high level of blessing. (Not sure if this is true of Bless Party and Major Blessing but I think it is.) (Also not sure if further blesses will increase the duration or not. I think not, but not sure.) Blessing can go up to 8 levels in Exile. Each level confers a +5% bonus to hit, a +1 damage bonus, and I think (but don't quite recall) a +5% bonus to dodge and +1 bonus to armor. That armor bonus is extremely powerful. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Coochie-coochie! Shelley Long played Diane Chambers. On the one hand, she was intelligent, elegant, idealistic, and a good manager. On the other hand, she was elitist, judgmental, and obstinately naive. My personal favorite casting is definitely Upon Mars', followed closely by Drakefyre's and Arghhhhhhhhh's. Also, Madeline Kahn is probably my favorite actress of all time, though that isn't quite the reason for her pairing. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Perhaps I'm missing something about that causality list, but it doesn't seem MECE to me. In fact it doesn't seem even remotely profound, but rather a somewhat arbitrarily incomplete semantic investigation into the different lexical entries for "cause" (the Greek word, anyway). There's not even any explanation for how or why he arrived at those four items, rather than others. What am I missing? -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |
