Why are we arguing about things from WW1 and 2 again? I thought this was a discussion about Iraq. I'm done arguing over what could have or should have happened. It's possible that any of the things anyone posted COULD have happened. I personally think that we're doing a decent job in Iraq. We just need to work more on rebuilding it. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Alright, where to begin on this one. First of all, Moody, WAR IS JUSTIFIED IN SOME CASES , and if you can't see that you either are ignorant, or one of the peace protesters who know absolutely nothing about politics (which is quite a few, not suprisingly). Now that I've gotten that off my chest. quote:World War 2 was caused by World War 1. As a matter of fact, had America not intervened in WW1, both sides would have been thoroughgoingly crippled by general strikes; the Allied invasion of Soviet Russia wouldn't have happened (thus drastically decreasing the devastation of the civil war, and putting Trotsky rather than Stalin in a position to take over after Lenin's death); neither Weimar Germany nor the Nazi Party would have happened; the capital to create the bubble economy of the 20s wouldn't have happened, so the Great Depression wouldn't have happened. The world would have been taught the lessons of WW1 without having to learn them through the terrors of WW2, the Soviets wouldn't have been anywhere near as brutal and heavy-handed -- nor as diplomatically isolated -- as they became under Stalin, and Germany would still be, as it was before the loss of the first war, one of the best places in the world to be a Jew. Yeah, there's a case where 'peaceful methods' would have solved nothing.
Uh... right. First of all, if we hadn't intervened in WW2, the war would have continued on for a long time, considering we are one of the people who helped settle a peace. I'll admit that punishing the Germans so harsly after the war (they lost all of their colonies, basically had to pay for the war by themselves, had to disarm) caused them to become angry enough to start WW2. The Allies have never invaded Russia, so I don't know where you were going with that, Stalin probably would have still had taken over, considering he was Lenin's right hand man and the fact he became extremely powerful. He removed anyone who would had opposed him right after Lenin died. Nazy Germany could have still happened because they were still power hungry and angry over their defeat in WW1. As for the Great Depression, it still would have happened. Some newer things were introduced into economics around this time, such as inflation and credit. WW1 wasn't a direct cause. Your assuming that WW2 wouldn't happen, but it was waiting to happen due to the fact THAT Germany had allied itself with Japan, who were very imperialistic at the time and also drew us into the war through pearl harbor. The Soviets weren't brutal, Stalin was. WWI was caused due to the many alliances that countries had formed, and caused by an assassination. Next page... I'll agree that the media is really stupid nowadays and we'd probably be doing better moral wise if idiots worrying about ratings didn't show all the bad about Iraq and some of the good. Pulling out of Iraq would be foolish considering they'd hate us more because we totalled their country and then left again, leaving a void for a Islamic Fundamentalistic country to form. Just what we need, another Iran. I agree with desert about Germany pulling their troops from the Eastern front and moving them to the Western front. All that crap about 9/11 being preventable is just crap the media is sturring up as people look for someone to blame over 9/11 beside the terrorists that caused it. We weren't prepared for a terrorist attack of that magnitude. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

quote:We should've stayed as long as we planned, and we're being hypocrites by not taking the same stance against other monarchies (dictatorships) in the world. (i.e. N. Korea and Cuba)
We aren't being hypocrites. It's not possible to take on 3 countries at once. We're still not done in Afganistan. Bush is hoping that a democratic nation in the Middle East will help stabilize the region. As for us dying by the 1000's everyday, what are you talking about? Are you watching the same news as me? We've lost less than 1000 troops for the duration of the whole war. (I'd have to check the numbers on that.) I hate the fact that people think that 100% of the time you can rely on peaceful purposes to resolve things. It's not possible. Look at WW2 and how Britain and France initially let Germany take over countries because they wanted to avoid war. Sometimes, war is justified. Major Delaris continued his duties in the Solarian army. It was a time of peace however, so few problems ever arose. Occasionally a group of bandits or pirates would rise up only to be disbanded and destroyed again. ------------------------------------------------- As the years went by he worked his way up the ranks of the army, eventually becoming a respected general. ------------------------------------------------- He eventually settled down, married, and had several kids. All of them persued a career in the military. When he died, Kevin did not regret anything, just content. OOC: My character needs new orders. And mabey a promotion? :D Captain Kevin and his unit reached the fort and the Captain was ready to recieve new orders. Things went decent he guessed, he managed to get the Doomguard home, (not knowing that it was destroyed), however he didn't manage to capture the traitors. OOC: That was quick. Arancaythar, is your character dead or just unconcious? A soldier reported in to Captain Kevin and reported that a small group broke into the fort in an attempt to steal the doomguard but failed. They had retreated, and where nowhere to be found. Kevin gave his unit new orders, to ride north back to the capital to report the situation. OOC: Fixed my post. But wouldn't the Solarian Mages just scry the Doomguard and find the crystal? They would scry it to make sure it's ok right? OOC: I'll be Taron's opposition at the Solarian fort. It started to get dark as Kevin reached to Solarian "fort." It was on the border of Solarian territory. It was little more than a camp with makeshift walls and a few guard towers. It was also quite undermanned. Sergeant Lincoln had reached the fort and greeted Kevin as he arrived. He said that a mage wanted to see him. A Solarian Battle Mage met with Kevin inside one of the main tents. The Doomguard was there as well. "Greetings Captain, and a job well done. The Doomguard is unharmed and is almost battle ready," the main began," we are preparing to transport it deep into Solarian territory where there it will be safe. With hope it will be combat ready within a few days." Kevin spoke up, "I still have to see that it makes it back intact. I will guard it until it is through the portal," said Kevin. The sergeant spoke up," I'm going to return to base. Good luck Captain." Lincoln left with his men that night. Kevin set up a few men to help guard on the walls. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Things did not look good for Captain Kevin. He was trapped inside the small city at the docks. Things had backfired on him. However, Sergeant Lincoln had already left with the Doomguard. Kevin's unit had backed off, waiting for there Captain a short distance from the town. Part of his mission was accomplished. He couldn't get the traitors here today but at least the Doomguard is safe. Kevin thought for a minute. He noticed a small boat at the docks that wasn't being guarded. He snuck over to it and climbed in. He removed the rope holding the boat to the docks and began to row it away. He stayed close to shore but tried to avoid attracting attention. Right after he was out of the town's site, he left the boat at shore, and began to search for his unit. It didn't take too long; they were actually looking for the Captain as well. Some scouts found him and he was brought back to camp. He ordered that the unit was to return to Solarian territory to recieve new orders from command. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Captain Kevin and the elites persued the Doomguard through the town, as the thieves attempted to flee. Several other troops moved in on Sergeant Lincoln's command to help apprehend the thieves. Surrounded, with nowhere to go, the thieves surrendered. They had the insignia of SAFT. Interesting, thought the Captain, I'll have to report this to the General. Kevin pulled out a scroll given to him by one of the mages. This would make sure that only the Solarians could control the Doomguard now. It would also deactivate the Doomguard. A few more guards arrived to carry the Doomguard. "Bring this back to the sergeant, and you 2 elites help guard these thieves. I've got some traitors to find," Kevin said. Now, they can't live by normal means. We have the town surrounded. There is no sewers in this small town. They'd have to leave through the docks... and that's where I'll be waiting, Kevin thought. Kevin walked to the docks and hid behind some crates, waiting for his opponents to arrive. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Captain Kevin rode silently next to Sergeant Lincoln. "This is the town where the two were last spotted," said Kevin. "They should be here with the Doomguard. We need to get it back.""I have a plan," said the Captain,"I'll take troops from both of our units and surround the town. You take two of my elites and ferret the traitors out. Good luck," Lincoln shouted in a gruff voice as he turned to round up the troops. Two elite guards rode up to Kevin, and the three entered the town and dismounted; the horses turned and returned to the others. The rest of this mission would be on foot. "Alright, keep your eyes open. They don't know we're looking for them. They carefully looked around. They would find the traitors. -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Captain Kevin and his unit pursued the retreating mercenaries, who had fled into a nearby plain. They were trying to reach the small town of Calvus to resupply and prepare an ambush. However to get to the town the enemy would have to find a way to cross the Alis River that ran through the plain. Kevin had taken a shortcut across a older bridge to get to the town first. He set up archers on the roofs and in buildings and maintained several lookouts so his troops could rest at night. They would be ready for the enemy commander when he reached town in the morning. ------------------------------------------------- Morning came, and the enemy rode in a broken formation. Kevin made one last check to make sure the ambush was set. He signaled the archers to lay low to avoid being spotted. Kevin stepped back into the shadows. He told his soldiers the night before that all were expendable, but he wanted the enemy commander alive. The enemy rode into the center of the town, and dismounted the horse. He began shouting orders to his soldiers, and Kevin signaled for the attack to begin as he drew his sword and led the charge at the enemy. Archers fired down on the enemy and foot-soldiers clashed as the two sides meet. Kevin swung his long sword at an opposing soldier and knocked the shield out of his hand, then cutting him down with a well placed slice. A arrow hit another enemy in the shoulder and then the head. The enemy commander surrendered along with a few of his men. The rest were either dead or they surrendered. "This'll make Commandant Krilon quite happy," Captain Kevin though to himself. They put the captives in chains and set off at full speed towards the fort... -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Kevin knocked on the door of the Commander of the Fort. "Enter," said a gruff, tired voice. Kevin entered. He looked around at the many papers on the walls and desk, the Commander was way behind on his paperwork. "Sir, we've been sent to reinforce the fort. I am Captain Kevin Delaris. Intelligence reports have shown a sizable force of mercenaries hired by the Ironclads to attack this fort. General Gerzad sent me to ensure this forts safety," said Kevin. "Good, we've needed some backup. There's been a group of brigands harassing the fort for days, and we're worn out from fighting them for the last week. Welcome to Fort Leaziz Captain," said the Commander. -------------------------------------------------- A few hours later, at night. Movement was heard outside. "Who's there," shouted a guard. Suddenly, a arrow hit him dead on and he fell to the ground. Another lookout shouted "Enemy Attack" and the alarm was raised. Captain Kevin left the barracks, and grabbed his Greatsword, as he led his troops against the invading force... -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

OOC: The grey areas on the map, is that nuetral territory? Captain Daleris rode along with his small unit of 100 soldiers. He was given orders to help guard the southern front, at Fort Leaziz. For now things were quiet, but if the reports were true, the enemy was just advancing from the south in an attempt to take the fort and gain a foothold for future attacks against the Solarians. Daleris arrived at the fort at night. He rode up to the front gate, and his unit was let in. War would soon fall upon the tiny fort... -------------------- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster... when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes back into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche Posts: 469 | Registered: Thursday, November 14 2002 08:00 |

Lavius turned to take a look at the war-torn town. The attacks had taken their toll, but things were finally peaceful. People could rest peacefully during the nights once more. The rebuilding had already begun. Lavius felt at peace. The undead were banished forever here. However, Lavius' path was not getting any easier. A civil war was forming back home and unrest amoung the populace spread like fire. Lavius took one last look at the town, and set off down the road to home...
