So by logical conclusions, we can say that he is not dead, and he is not brain dead, as this would be virtually the same as a coma, feel free to prove me wrong. Anyway, I think the best way to make those beams would be symetrical, steep diagonal lines, and put them in the background. make them transparent white or yellow, and if you are drawing where they break trough the leaves, make it pretty blinding on the closest leaves and gradualy darker.
