So, a warning not to leave combat mode or instant death while in the town? Yay! The minute they leave combat mode, DIE! -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

In that case I'll make it impossible for them to leave, and then when they've killed everyone, I'll move them to the second fight. Is there any way stop them from leaving fight mode? Also, this is a 1 on 1 fight. -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

The whole reason I wanted it outdoors was so that the party cannot rest or use any town-only functions. I also didn't them to be able to enter and then leave w/o killing everyone. I know I can extend the border of the town from (1,1) to (48,48), but there is no call to force them to leave unless I use move_to_new_town(). Correct? Also, I'll probably test this later, but you can perform a teleport (within a town) and call a cutscene upon the death of an NPC, correct? -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Actually I was referring to the towns you fight in when you have an outdoor encounter. Each battlefield is pre-designed, and is a town, but it is a special usage of a town, so I'm not sure. -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

I preferred Starbridges and later Carriers. My only problem is that the Starbridge is a trader rather than a warship class. so don't use it for those missions that require a warship. I missed out on the Auroran sidequest because of that. =( -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

Unfortunately I have all of Lois's SF books already and have read them. I'm rereading Heinlein (sp?), and Dickson's Childe Cycle, and Kim Harrison's Hollows Series (Rachel Morgan). I'm waiting for my reservation of White Night (Jim Butcher) to arrive at the library. On a side note: I FINALLY have a non dial-up connection at home. Does anyone know of a good space story? The main elements I'm looking for are: 1. Life in space 2. Realism (i.e. no FTL, or highly advanced societies) 3. No aliens 4. Politics Edit: 5. Not at war or fleeing a war. 6. Not post-apoc [ Saturday, March 31, 2007 19:06: Message edited by: Dahak ] -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Also, there are serfs as indicated in A Small Rebellion. I haven't played it in a while so I need to recheck, but was serfdom dying out? Also that seems to the only sign of serfs in all of the games. Is there any indication of how the upper government is structured? Edit: Has the Empire discovered all major & minor landmasses on the surface? I seem to recall that they had, but I'm not sure. The way I saw things there could be the following setups: a. Multiple houses/families with Prazac's being the ruling house/family. b. Government officials could be elected (unlikely), appointed (likely), inherited (?). Those appointed could be along the lines of a family appointment where a family rules a branch of the bureaucracy and uses its power in that branch to secure jobs for its people. Or there could be a test with top people passing & with influence getting the good jobs. -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

I'm trying to figure out how the governments of Avernum and the Empire are structured. As far as I know: Avernum - Monarchy w/ an advisory council made up of the mayors 6 biggest cities in Avernum. No aristocratic class. Legislation is passed by the monarch, judged by the mayor of the cities with appeal to the monarch. Q: 1. Are mayors elected or appointed? 2. What power do the individual cities have? Empire - Imperial government. Each nation/region is divided with a governor ruling it. Each governor appoints mayor to rule the individual cities. Has a aristocracy. Some regions may be feudal. Q: 1. What role does the nobility play? -------------------- My ego is bigger than yours. Posts: 480 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |

Check out "Head First into Java" It explains things really well at the basic level. It doesn't cover Java 5 unless they've released a new copy. It doesn't cover J2EE.
