I got DS and the expansion pack as a free handmedown from ATI. Then I hacked it up with modpacks. Archers were useless without that Master Archer mod... EDIT: On a related note, I managed to beat both single player campaigns with a solo warrior mage. "As we all know," Andros began. "The Guild is after me because I was a rejected recruit, and rejects were to be killed. We also know that the Guild is after Orloki and his treasure. The raiders obviously want to capture this piece of land because it makes a reliable forward base for the mountain. "The Guild hasn't always been like this. Before, only those shown to have the mutation called the "Mark of the Blademaster" were allowed in. I carry this Mark too - just a weaker one. "However, the Guild numbers were too few with this restriction. With only a couple hundred of members in the Guild spread out around the land, it could never gain any substantial power - the power that it needs to fulfill its dream of policing the land under the cover of night. "That was why they removed the restriction, and allowed those who were just normal humans, but also skilled with the sword, into the Guild. Eventually, these 'Naturals' gained prominence. OOC: Yes, Cyrus is with us. He can't drink anything though. IC: "On a ligher note, what is this stuff anyway?" Andros wondered. "Ah well, it can't be lethal." With that, Andros took a sip of the liquid. He grimaced. "You seem to hate it," Sequoia asked. "Watered down wine," Andros replied. "Probably got some dirt in it too." He felt a sudden movement to his left, below him. It was a young girl, around the age of six, tugging at his shirt with her small hands. "Can you fill my milkshake?" She asked, holding up an empty silver mug. "I can't reach." "Sure thing," Andros jogged across the room, filled the mug with milkshake, and returned. "Here you go." The girl thanked him and replied, "You're so nice. Nobody else here wants to help me because I don't have a mommy. And daddy's gone too." Andros glanced at Sequoia, who looked back with a raised eyebrow. "Where did he go?" Sequoia asked. "A bunch of weirdos with these really sharp swords ran through here a few days ago. Daddy and some other people left to fight them the next day but they're not back yet." She then pointed at Andros' shirt. "They have shirts just like that, but there's little silver lines on them." Andros looked back at Sequoia again, this time with a serious look on his face. "Silver lining on black... Those are raiders from the Guild of Blademasters, Sequoia!" The girl tugged Andro's shirt again. "Will daddy be alright?" Andros swallowed a sudden lump in his throat, knowing that her father was likely to be dead. But that doesn't mean he can't still be alive. "He'll be fine, girl," Andros replied after a long pause. "We'll find your father." "You're so nice," the girl replied. She then laid her mug down on a table and reached for an envelope and a paper flower. "This is for daddy." After she handed the paper items to him, Andros carefully placed them into his shoulder pack, making sure not to damage the flower. "I'll make sure he sees it," the sniper assured. "By the way, my name is Andros, and the man beside me is Brother Sequoia. What's your name?" "I'm Cristane," the girl answered, then finished the her milkshake. "I have to go now. Bye!" "How did this Guild of Blademasters know we're here?" Sequoia asked Andros as she left the building. "It's one of the Guild's ways of doing things," Andros replied. IC: "We're all going for Orloki's treasure," Andros explained. "Obviously, I can't do this alone, and you could probably use my talent. So, we're all in this together. "Also, we're by far not the only ones in this." Andros glanced around. Seeing that only Sequoia and Cyrus could actually hear him, he continued. "I was once in the Guild of Blademasters, actually. Since I refused to give up this custom-made 'pump crossbow' and master the sword, I was kicked out - and 'kicked out' for the Guild means that I now have a bounty on my head. The same guild is also after Orloki's treasure to finance itself, so because you, me, and the rest of the gang is also after it, we'll have bounty hunters on our tails too, if the Guild doesn't kill us first." "So now there's a price tag on our severed heads?" Sequoia asked in disbelief. Andros nodded. "They're jerks like that. On the bright side, if they reach Orloki first, we'd get an easier fight. OOC: Oh. My. God. I spend a day in class and the post count DOUBLES? Damn. IC: "Late for action again, I see," the bartender laughed. Andros had just missed the commotion with the undead. "Yea, there was this skeleton warrior thing here earlier tonight, as well as a walking suit of armour. There was even a few other more normal weirdos, including this short guy with a mask. They're all heading for some mountain for some reason." "Ah yes, the one with the demon," Andros replied. "Thanks a lot, my man, I'll look around; they shouldn't be hard to find." "Thinking of sniping one, I see." "Nah, walking suits of armour make very good shields. Besides, I'll need those people to hold off that demon when I grab the treasure anyway." With that, Andros left the inn. The party was not hard to spot; the two hulking suits of armour, the short man with a mask, and a woman whom he was almost sure was one of those 'shadow elves'. Readying his sniper crossbow for self defense, Andros decided to catch up and introduce himself... OOC: Hey Aran, what up? I see you're not going with a crazy old man this time. IC: A weak variation of the "Blademaster's Mutation". According to the Guild, he was somewhat... different from everybody else. According to them, he looked just like everybody else, except his natural speed was somewhat greater than others. He could even withstand greater falls and predict some attacks from normal people. And yet, because he refused specialize on swordplay, he was expelled from the Blademasters' Guild - they even sent one of the elites to kill him. "Watch it, that hurts!" Andros grunted as his sister Valeri wrapped gauze tightly around his right elbow. "That should cover the rest those shuriken wounds," Valeri replied. "Now get off my bed, you're making it stink." "Hey, that's not how a girl treats his big brother who happens to make money for you," Andros complained as he pushed himself off the bed and onto the ground with his good hand. "And don't go off rattling about how you're already seventeen and how your job as a nurse is more stable than mine. Again." "At least I don't limp home with sharp objects stuck in various body parts," Valeri retorted. "You should quit adventuring someday and get a job as a mechanic. Nobody beats you in that, you know." "Boring job." Andros quickly stretched, then picked up his sniper crossbow. It was an impressive weapon - while its full length was more than a metre long, its parts were all either retractable or foldable, and it could even fire several bolts without having to reload. Once everything was retracted or folded, it could easily be slung across Andros' back. If the bow didn't work, he still had his reliable machete. Unlike his bow, Andros was relatively average. Standing just shy of six feet and weighing in at about 150 pounds, it was easy for him to blend into a crowd. He wore a dark blue shirt and loose black pants; he preferred comfort while trying to find a good sniper position. Andros' long black hair, perhaps his only distinguishing characteristic, was tied back in a ponytail. "Hey sis, get some rest," the bladesman-turned-sniper suggested as he opened the door. "Your shift's in a few hours. As for me, I'll be looking for jobs at the tavern." With that, he shut the door. I've loved Frosted Flakes ever since I was a kid, but usually we don't have time to sit there and eat cereal - I just drink a glass of water, grab a bun and eat it on the way downtown, to campus.
