That's no way to talk, Sara! If we stay blindingly hopeful and vaguely annoying, Dikiyoba is bound to write another one! And if not, then keep trying anyway!

Seriously, though. Diki needs a break. Not a permanent one, but at least a month or two.

*sigh*... can we talk about this for a second? I'm feeling like we're in Alec's "Why You Suck" thread again, and this is why: we need new memes, and it's unfair to expect Dikiyoba to come up with all of them. These episodes are freakin' long, and probably take much more effort than I expect anyone else here would be willing to expend. Thus, we need to move on.

(Insert plug for the upcoming RP here)

The scripts are funny, and they're well-written. But that doesn't merit chaining Dikiyoba to a desk for all eternity (regardless of whether any liver-eating birds are present), just so that we have stuff to talk about.

Right. But will that stop Nalyd from saying the opposite? No.

Reference caught, Eph.

Anyway, so I'm kinda sad.

Why, you ask?

Because I'm unable to access the story now. Aaaand… that's really kind of a bummer.

Does it just load and load and load forever without getting anywhere? Are you having trouble with your own website (and any other Freeweb sites)? If so, that's the problem I had. Try deleting your cookies and other temporary files (make sure you know all your passwords first) and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, I'll PM whatever chapters you haven't read to you.

You might want to cut back. Vaguely annoying is reminding Dikiyoba once a week at most.

I found a way to trick Freewebs when that happens. When the site is taking forever to load, go to a different site, such as your homepage, but quickly hit the 'back' button right afterwards. Works for me.

Well what it was doing was telling me it couldn't find the server. But now it's randomly working. Eh. Whatever.

When Freewebs acts up I usually just press reload 8 or 9 times, and that usually works. But only when it's just taking ? years to load.

EDIT: Okay, that ? is supposed to be infinity. Didn't know strange characters weren't allowed.

I think it's worth reminding everyone that I'm thinking about switching hosts, so if anyone has any ideas, now's the time to speak.

Dikiyoba wouldn't mind Drupal, but Arancaytar doesn't need any more people in his online empire. We don't want to make it too easy for him to conquer the world, right? Besides, putting a dikiyora on Ermarian might bring back rumors of the Averforge/Genevernum conspiracy again, and no one wants that. :P

But seriously, ask Slarty, Thralni, Ados, TGM and Sarasaphilia if they're happy.

Aren't you happy?!

*groan* "Yessss, masssster"

See? They're happy! No strings attached! :P

It will make it easier for Aran to monitor us. Then when he takes over he'll know where we are.

I did have a DikiScript forum on the SPUD-1. I can reinstate it, if you'd like.

I already know where you are. Just ask Zeviz.

Also, I changed the theme of the Nano site. This one looks a bit more spiffy...

But I don't want to be part of an empire! I want to be free!

Though that doesn't appear to be an option. Or at least, not an option I have time to hunt down. So, Arancaytar:

-How much programming do I have to know to use it?

-How does it look for long term stability? (Besides frequently not working, Freewebs deletes accounts after a period of inactivity, and that's one of the reasons I want to switch.)

-What is the necessary bribe for leaving Dikiyoba and Dikiyoba's site unmonitored? :P

...

Take a look at this list:

http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1286

Whatever option you chose, I highly recommend setting up several mirrors with a single, highly reliable entry point. A place like geocities and freewebs might have terrible service, but you know that they will always be around, so a good solution could be a front page at geocities/freewebs that redirects people to your current host of choise. This would mean that if your free host disappears (happens pretty often with both "friends" and small companies), you would simply have to change the links on your front page and people will not even have to update their bookmarks.

Yours is still there. :P

As is one I made two years ago and haven't touched or logged into since then.

quote:
Dikiyoba:

[bunch of questions]
1. Drupal handles itself pretty smoothly and with an intuitive interface. You'd have no problem configuring it, creating pages and editing the links in the sidebar.

For things that do require mucking about with PHP, I could do it on short notice (outside of exams).

2. Aside from occasional downtime, it'll be there as long as I'm there to pay for the hosting. Which I plan to keep doing for a few years yet.

Some people who've provided free hosting for Spiderwebbers *cough*Lady J*cough* have disappeared into the night, their sites disappearing on short notice. I promise I won't do that. Unless I unexpectedly die or something. Or become unemployed and homeless.

3. I can't stop my host from logging access for the last 3 days. But your logs will be private, and I'll even promise not to read them. :P
