Not a good thing? Do you mean to say that you had to suffer through 3000 posts here? :P

You know, this is part of the reason why I stopped the monthly ranking. I thought the overall postcount list wouldn't have that much of an impact; please don't prove me wrong.

For some people, post count is there only achievement. You know, "quantity, not quality." After all size does matter when you are trying to compensate for other inadequacies (depending upon your mind you fill in what is inadequate).

That's because you can't say that posts are better when they move the right way... :P

Topics can be moved though, and they count as post, which makes it a contradiction.

Overall rank means nothing except to a few people who would post a lot anyway. It's not like the benalizer purposely set out to become ninth overall. It just happened.

You called?

Dikiyoba.

You obviously aren't aware of the conspiracies within conspiracies that the boards operate on/around/within.

Ben meant to be 9th, but *after* the fact that he achieved ninth....

Thank you Aran. I got what I needed. You can disable it now if you feel the need.

Ed got banned?! Why am I always the last to know? :P

Anyway, I blew the dust of my calculator, and I concluded that appr. 95% of all the "users" (mostly non-active/dead accounts) has a lower post count than me, so I'm not doing as bad as I though. :P

EDITIO: There is no such thing as 195% in this context...

2) My respect to Rachel's dedication. I wonder what else she could have achieved in the meantime for her goals if she hat proceeded a bit more cautiously. Friends, go on to fight for peace but stay alive. We need you all.

3) I understand your observation and your conclusion . May I suggest to make use of the lesson we can draw: A ranking causes competition. We all drool over recognition much more than we would admit.
What about putting this to some serious use to advance the subspecies of mankind found on spiderweb? Here is my question of all questions:

Devise an transparent algorithm to compute a ranking of members according to the merits they have earned during the past quarter.
It should be based on an honest majority vote and neither a popularity contest or subject to manipulation by the authorities.
The karma is the zeroth approximation.
The post count was better but flawed as you found out.
The "elections" for mod-ship last year were better but limited to the elite rather than including John Q. Public.
In science there is a citation list with impact weight factors according to the journals.
Amazon ranks the book comments according to usefulness.
Spidweb could become more exiting if we tried some other ranking mechanism.

First off-topic thing. Happy birthday to Rosycat, who has sadly departed from these boards, leaving them an overall less funny and colder place. On the odd chance you see this, we all miss you, especially the weather balloon crew. Come back some time.
I don't want to be cynical, but I don't like hypocrisy. I think this 'we all miss you' thing is a bit exaggerated. There are/were some people, including active members, who didn't like Rosycat's behavior, and I'm pretty sure you are aware of that. I think I can safely and respectfully say that I am among those who didn't like Rosycat's behavior, and I certainly don't miss her. I do wish her all the happy birthdays and post-birthdays you want, however.

Rachel Corrie was working for a cause she believed in, and though she possibly didn't intend to, she died for that. I think a moment of silence is in order today, for her, for the countless people who have risked or are still risking their life to keep down the fire in that powder barrell, and for the countless lives that have been claimed and are still being claimed by said fire.

(respectful silence)

However, this forum is not a spam competition.
*erupts in gales of mad laughter*

Okay, I agree with you, but I was not surprised when I read about this 'spam competition'. A lot of people (read : mostly n00bs) tend to react like that to these kind of stats, and there have been issues like this one on other forums.
