I've written a program to solve quadratic equations, and another to divide a cubic polynomial by a linear one (that one was tricky to write and I never used it much; I did it mostly because I was so pleasantly surprised to realise I could actually figure out a way to do it at all). Unfortunately both were lost to me when my graphing calculator was stolen. Ah well; I no longer have any particular need for it anyway. Well, the scenario data file shows that he has 100% immunity to every type of damage, so it probably won't work. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Macintosh emulators do exist. However, most of them emulate fairly old computer models; I'm not aware of any that would be able to run Avernum 4. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Wait a couple of days and email him again. Sometimes he can take a few days to respond to email, and sometimes an email sent to him doesn't go through at all. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Jeff Vogel rarely reads these forums. You're better off emailing him at spidweb@spiderwebsoftware.com to see what's going on. Better still, write programs to simplify common mathematical tasks and then distribute them to your classmates. I became rather popular that way. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

For OS 9? No, there's no way to run OpenOffice on OS 9 -- there's no native OS 9 version of OpenOffice, and there's no OS 9 implementation of Xwindows. For heaven's sake, just upgrade already. As for Solaris, it's a Unix variant developed by Sun Microsystems. It's fairly commonly used for servers. Well, if you switch from Windows to Mac, do keep in mind that you'll have to change over a lot of software as well. If you want to use Microsoft Office, for example, you'll have to buy it for your Mac. (Alternatively, you could switch to using AppleWorks or OpenOffice, both of which are mostly capable of opening Microsoft Office files. AppleWorks comes with the computer and OpenOffice is freely available for download, so neither costs you anything over and above the cost of the computer.) -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Honestly, after already having wiped out the rebels, I'd hardly consider whacking Jaen to amount to any serious threat to the Empire's sovereignty over the island. He's pretty replaceable. :P -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |

Well, that's really something you have to decide for yourself. On one hand, the Empire has treated the people of Morrow Isle pretty shabbily for quite some time. On the other, the rebels rob and kill innocent merchants to acquire resources and spread fear, so one has to wonder what kind of government they'd set up on the island if they did manage to drive Imperial forces out. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! .meg files are graphics in Macintosh format; you only need them if you're using a Mac. .gif files are included so that you can make your own graphics file if the included one isn't working. If you're using Windows, you should remove all of both file types from your scenarios folder. EDIT: You're welcome. I'm glad you managed to get BoE working properly; there really are some great scenarios out there. Check out the Lyceum's Comprehensive Scenario Rankings for more detailed scenario reviews than you'll find at Spiderweb (but be warned that the highest-rated scenarios over there tend to be rather difficult for beginners). You shouldn't have any zip files in your scenarios folder in the first place (so if there are any in there, certainly remove them). Move the .exs and graphic files to another folder until there are fewer than 20 left and try again. Try removing a few scenarios. The scenario selection dialog doesn't work right if there are more than 20 or so scenarios in your folder. Yes, this is incredibly annoying. -------------------- The Empire Always Loses: This Time For Sure! Posts: 9973 | Registered: Saturday, March 30 2002 08:00 |
