Well, if it's under siege, food should be available but quite expensive. You can have a mage wandering (he's stranded) that can identify items and such. A fletcher is good because people need ways to defend themselves. Everyone can use tools. Lots of farmers means they need shovels and other farming equipment. Prices on this should be low, no farming, no sales. Well, it's on a trade route. What things are traded? Why not have some stranded merchants trying to peddle their goods to try and hire mercenaries to get out of there. Also, why not have a mercenary for hire to act as an NPC? It's a besiged area, some fortune seekers are bound to show up. You can also have shops that are out of business that are of non-use to the party such as furniture shops, pet stores, jewelery shops, etc. These things were once useful in the middle of a prosperous trading route, now nobody wants them. I always said valleys are the most dangerous places in the Empire, next to islands. Why anyone would live in them is beyond me. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Every town should have a place to get food, unless it is heavily dependant on subsistance farming. What is the character of the town? Is it a big city, a small village? Is there anything special going on in the area? What shops you have depend on the type of town and the environment around it. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! In my series, the role of Prazac was a decentralizing one. She took a lot of the power from Solaria (the Imperial capital on Pralgad) and distributed it throughout the Empire. At the same time, the Empire was growing in both prosperity and size. The consequnce was an inflation of the already belated ancient Imperial bureaucracy (which I based off the Chinese model and assumed dated to the start of the Empire). This meant the real power lies in the bureaucracy. It's just too huge to for one person, or even a small cabal of people in Solaria to handle. Although they try, realistically, the local leaders and bureaucrats hold the power. This is about where the Empire stood at about the time of At the Gallows which takes place 400 years after the Avernum trilogy. So long as a regional leader does not bring down the Empire's military might (as they did in Stolgrad in the scenario), things run smoothly. At about the time of Spears, Foreshadows, and A Perfect Forest, things are starting to shift in the other direction. Bureaucracies are being destroyed and recentralized. Magical control is being enforced much more strictly. Although in At the Gallows, the rules were still fairly strict. There were no real magic shops in the scenario. The Empire's golden age ended effectively after At the Gallows. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

You don't deflect the beams from the power source. Reconfigure the beams to blast the machine instead. It will be too much power and overload the thing as indicated somewhere in the dialogues. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Is the town named tempest? Or is this the scenario name? You need to add the 'dlg' after the town name. So, if the town script file is called t3newyork.txt, its dialogue file will be t3newyorkdlg.txt. Look at some of the examples to figure this out. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I suspect it's more for backward compatability with Blades of Exile scenarios where you had the dialogue nodes which can do actions. Also, it makes things like innkeepers easier. I don't know why Jeff didn't import healers into the mix, however. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

I will be accepting no more beta testers. Thank you for those who applied. Also, let me know if you didn't get the last file. It's quite large with the new splashscreens. You can still download it at the URL. Thanks again! -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

quote:No, he won't. There was a post by Jeff a while back that said he gets lots of messages that say roughly: "Hi, I came up with this great idea, now you go do 99% of the work and make it." Seriously, unless you are a good programmer or a graphics or sound artist, I doubt he will be interested. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power!! 1) Suppose your scenario is named sword.bas 2) Create a script sworddata.txt 3) Read the Docs and see the corresponding Valley of Dying Things file for a good example. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! This is probably due to the way Blades formats the object. Try making the object a few tones lighter and see if that works. -------------------- Your flower power is no match for my glower power! Posts: 3726 | Registered: Tuesday, September 18 2001 07:00 |

If people complain, I usually give them what they want so long as it is reasoable. I was under the impression that you posted a link to a google search with the offensive image.
