Hi all... I am looking forward to the Windows release of this game. So... for those lucky ones of you who get to play the game now... how about a quick, spoiler free review. What do you think of the game? Try not to compare it to the original... just rate it on its own merit as a unique game. Thanks to any who choose to write up some quick reviews. -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |

quote:I usually just lurk on the boards here... but I'm sorry I have to say something. That part of your statement is ridiculous. Most everyone in the US is NOT rich. There are millions and millions of 1. out-of-work people in the US 2. extremely low-income people in the US 3. homeless people in the US I forget the true current status, but it's something like less than 5% of the population in the US has something like 70% of the total wealth. The country as a whole is a lot better off (in some ways) than a lot of other countries, but to make a blanket statement like "Most everyone in the US is rich" is ludicrous. I have to agree that Avernum has much more possibilies for strategy than Oblivion. I liked Oblivion, but it's combat is anything but strategic. In Avernum you have to plan out your battles... if you don't you will get killed... especially later in the game. In Oblivion I played through the entire game by just rushing in with my latest, greatest weapon and slashing everything that opposed me to bits (swallowing potions as I needed them). Could I have used strategy? Maybe... but the point is I didn't have to. In the Avernum games if you don't use strategy (especially in the latter part of the games) you will simply get defeated. Just my opinion. -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |

(1) What's your main goal in life? -To live. (2) If you won a million dollars, what would be your first thought? - No more house payments! (3) When you are mad; do you usually stay angry or do you yell to release the anger? -My anger ends almost immediately, unless someone or something encourages it. (4) Tell us an anecdote of anything that happened to you today. -I sat at my desk all day coding. (5) What's your current Philosophy on life? -Time does not exist, therefore there is no past or future. There is only now. Motion exists, and is confused and labeled as time. Time is just a human creation used so that we can get to places... you know... on time. (6) If you created a deadly disease, what would you call it? -Tim. (7) What should you be doing right now? -Coding. (8) If this were Southpark, what character do you think you'd be? -I have no idea. (9) What occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid ? - Cowboy, Veterinarian, Police Officer, Writer. (10) What happened to those dreams? -I went to college and saw a vet with his hand in a cows **** all the way up to his shoulder, and I thought... um... no. The cowboy and police officer thing wore off as I aged. I'm lucky enough to be an active freelance PnP RPG writer when I'm not at my 'real' job. (11) Describe the last dream you can remember. -I dreamt that I went to the dorm that I stayed in when I was a freshman in college (over 22 years ago) to warn my roomates about a terrible storm that was coming. It was weird. (12) If you were a supermodel, which supermodel would you be? -No thank you, I'd rather eat. (13) If you had to live in a hole, what kind of creature would you be? -I'd be a fire ant. (14) If you could have one thing right now, what would it be and why? -I'd want that million dollars from question #2. (15) Name one thing about you that embarrasses you. -I really don't get embarrassed, not since I was a teenager anyway. (16) Do you usually walk around your house with sandals or barefoot? -Barefoot, always barefoot. (17) Have you ever gotten something you really wanted but thought you wouldn't get? -Oh sure. When I was 8 years old I wanted all the GI Joes that my babysitter's 17 year old son had (the old original 12 inch GI Joes). One day while I was sleeping in the morning she brought them over and left them for me, because her son didn't want them any more and she knew I loved playing with them. It was cool... (18) Name one thing you are presently excited about or fascinated by. -My children... it's cool to watch them go through the different stages of childhood. They are so different from infant, to 2 years old, to 5 years old, to 9 years old, and so on. -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |

Congrats Synergy... I also have my degree in psychology, but it was so long ago. As soon as I got out of school I took a job as a programmer (you could do that back then - get a job that had nothing to do with your degree), and I've been doing it ever since (almost 20 years now). I'm now the director of IT at a company in Ohio, and I couldn't be happier. I also fulfilled my biggest most unlikely dream (as you asked about) last year by becoming a published author in the PnP RPG industry. So, along with my great family, I'm living the life I love... is it perfect, no... but if it were it would be boring. Cheers, narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! I read a review for Geneforge 2 in PC Gamer. That led me to check out Spiderweb's website. For some reason, not sure why... even though I had read a review for Gf2, I downloaded and played Avernum instead. I got hooked on Avernum games... and I just recently bought all the Geneforge games and I'm getting ready to play them. narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! I'm running it on Windows... I tried print screen but I have no idea where it would put the screenshot. I looked in the directory where geneforge is installed but found nothing. I can't find any reference to it in the documentation either. Any ideas?? Thanks, narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |

Okay... I just received my games in the mail (GF1 - GF4) and I am going to go with everyone's good advice and play them in order. The temptation is of course to play the latest game, but I know that I'm going to enjoy it so much more if I play the whole series from start to finish... Thanks for all of your input. narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |

Hello all, I just ordered the Geneforge trilogy, along with Geneforge 4. I would like to hear the opinions of those who have a lot of experience with the series. Do you think I should play the series from 1 through 4? If not, should I start at a certain game and go from there (example: start with 3 and then go to 4)? If I do play the series from beginning to end I can probably plan on not getting to Geneforge 4 until I retire :) Let me know what you think... narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Hello all, My handle comes from a song by RUSH (yes, I'm a huge RUSH fan... sue me) It's from Didacts and Narpets (part of The Fountain of Lamneth). Both words are anagrams: Didacts = Addicts Narpets = Parents And yes, I'm a parent... so it suits me :) narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Happy Birthday! It's nice to see someone else who loves to watch bad movies... one of my favorite past-times. I don't know if you've ever watched Mystery Science 3000, but if you haven't... you need to. All the bad movies you could ever want, along with great insults and comments as the movies are being watched. I have all episodes (almost) of all seasons, so if anyone ever is looking for an episode just let me know. narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Okay... I'll chime in... I love classical but don't have a favorite. Favorite bands/artists - Hawkwind (they are what Pink Floyd should have been), REM (mostly their first 4 albums), Johnny Cash, Grateful Dead, Beatles, Rush, the Smiths, Iron Maiden, Edie Brickell, New Order... and so many more. narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! A quick word of praise in Avernum 4 | |

Hello all... I just wanted to stop by and let Spiderweb know that I love Avernum 4. I've been playing CRPGs since 1980 (yes I'm an old geezer) and I've played just about every one ever made for the PC (and Commodore 64 and Amiga). A4 has that special something that makes me want to keep playing. Sure it doesn't have the hottest graphics or sound, but it's got great story and atmosphere. It's by no means a perfect game, but it's a heck of a lot better than a lot of games that are churned out by big name companies. I love that I can play for 10 minutes or 3 hours and have a great time either way. I've never played a game by Spiderweb Software, but after reading many good things written all over the web and in some magazines I just had to try one. And I must say that I'm glad I did. Congrats Spiderweb on creating great games and doing it your way! narpet -------------------- May all your hits be crits! Posts: 23 | Registered: Friday, March 10 2006 08:00 |
