Popular opinion is low, but on the official level it's getting higher. A better relationship with the States is one of Harper's priorities, as is fixing some long-running trade disputes (I'm a softwood lumberjack and I'm okay!). The Arar situation caused a nosedive in popular opinion. Other than that, the only major thing I can think of is increased American border patrols, but that doesn't affect me as much as people living closer to the border. In any case, anything is better than the Bush-Chretien days. -------------------- Oppose Canada, or this terrorist wins! Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

By SoT: quote:The Conquerors trilogy, also by Zahn (though that had more to do with alien physiology than alien psychology). It's been so long since I read the Thrawn trilogy that I don't remember much of his psychology other than a few tidbits, like determining a species' weak point by analyzing their art. Zahn wrote a book after the trilogy that dealt with Thrawn's species (don't remember the name... also a long time ago), but it doesn't deal with Thrawn per se as it mentions that they had him outcast for his penchant for pre-emptive attacks. In any case, Thrawn never said anything inane like "because I'm trying to harm you and your friends, you should do an abrupt moral turnabout and ally with me." That puts him a notch above most other SW villains. -------------------- Annie: Oh no, what have I done? Pulpy: Join me. Isn't there some creature attribute in the docs that fixes this? Something in the creature definition that makes it a 'unique' creature? By Nemesis: quote:Nope. JV didn't even coin the name 'Ermarian'. It's pure fanwank. By ET: quote:I'm thinking about dropping the Evil from Evil Overlord. I guess this shows our fundamental difference: many call ET's end goal evil while he denies the label; whereas I willingly claim the term 'evil' when I really am not. In other words, ET claims that 'the ends justify the means' whereas I concern myself only with the means. See, ET is devoted to bringing about a time of what he views as utopia. However, many view this utopia is evil, let alone the means that ET uses to bring it about. I, on the other hand, have no motives. Who cares what type of society my rule brings about? It's conquering and staying alive that's the true fun. The point is this: I'm not really evil; I'm just in it for the death, mayhem, and destruction. -------------------- Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Gimmicks are a fair bit of work. I did the quote at the end of every post for a few other forums, but I didn't anticipate how much I would post here. However, the moment I falter for an instant, certain people take offense, so I guess I'm stuck with it. -------------------- C++: an octopus made by nailing extra legs onto a dog. - Steve Taylor Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

By ET: quote:Sigh... As much as it pains me to aid you, I can't bear to see a job done poorly. Read this. In a nutshell, it tells you to balance immediate gratification with long-term gratification. Sure, crushing Stareye would be fun. But unless you're torturing him for a reason, it's frivolous fun. I know your pain. Striding around in a long cape while reciting a prepared monologue to the Heroes as they slowly get lowered into a pool of lava is a great source of enjoyment. But it's not going to get you anywhere in the long run. So resist the temptation. So instead of menstruating once a month, you lay an egg once a month? Unless you're proposing that egg-babies should be less developed than birth-babies, the egg would be around the size of a birth-baby. So instead of giving birth no more than once every nine months, you effectively give birth every month. Besides, it would be a blow to feminism. Women should be barefoot and nesting in the kitchen, and all that jazz. -------------------- FORTRAN was the language of choice for the same reason that three-legged races are popular. - Ken Thompson Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |
