It doesn't come with a dictionary search, but you can install a myriad of engines into the search bar, including several different dictionaries.

Setting Firefox as your default browser won't cause any problems. All that means is that whenever you click a link in an external application, (e.g. IM client, word processor, etc.), it will open in Firefox instead of IE, which is most likely what you want.

Edit: Aran, if you wnat to be technical about it, you could say that Mozilla came out of Netscape, but in actuality, the current version of Netscape is a rework of an older version of Mozilla.

As far as I know, the current version of every browser for Windows works on Win2k. I would strongly advise against using Internet Explorer. It has so many security holes, you might as well be hanging up a sign inviting hackers into your computer. It's so bad that PCWorld voted it the 8th worst tech product of all time.

As for Netscape, it's really just a port of the old Mozilla browser. It's alright, I guess, but there's nothing in Netscape that isn't the same or better in Firefox

Firefox is, in my opinion, the best web browser out there. It has lots of great features, like tabbed browsing and a very efficient popup blocker. The best thing about Firefox is undeniably the developement community. Because, Firefox is a free, open-source project, many programmers have written helpful addons (known as extensions) for the browser, which enhance its functionality tenfold. If you can think of it, there is probably an extension for it. Things like music player controls built into the browser that can control just about any media player, local weather forecast in your status bar, good adblocking, showing Yahoo search matches with the Google results, etc. make browsing so much easier with Firefox.

The one thing that I really wish could be supported in Windows on my MacBook is the touchpad gestures. It seems odd that tapping the touchpad in Windows doesn't act as a click when it does for every PC laptop I have ever used.

I said no for the second one because I haven't touched MySpace in at least 6 months. I don't think I even remember my password. :P

As for practical uses of Facebook, it does help me keep in touch with all my old high school friends. For example, last week a bunch of us were hanging out at a local diner one night. This diner happens to have a wireless hotspot, and I had my new MacBook along to show it off. Anyway, we wanted to call Chris (another friend) to see if he wanted to come join us, but none of us knew his number. Facebook to the rescue!

That is one of the most irritating parts of the Averforge engine. If you start the game in 16-bit color and then change back to 24-bit or 32-bit, the game runs just fine, as I described here.

Edit: Wow, that was stupid. I navigated to the page that I wanted to link in the little window within a window on the reply page and didn't even think about it when i copied what was in the address bar. *Facepalm*

I used Boot Camp. It really is the best choice because it burns a CD with all the drivers you need. The only other additional software that I needed to install for Windows to work was Input Remapper. Enabling right-click functionality and adding a delete key are important when running Windows. :P

I just recently got the MacBook Pro (about 3 weeks ago), and about a month before that, I bought an old iBook off a friend. Before that, though, my only experience with Macs was the dinosaurs in the computer lab back when I was in middle school.

Agreed. Win2k is basically XP Light. Same great OS, less of a resource hog. :P

Edit: Before you Mac-lovers get on my case, great is a relative term. Besides, I use both anyway. I'm a proud owner of a dual-booting MacBook Pro. :P

Win98SE was a good OS, but I did have to reformat ans start over every now and then. In fact, Windows 98SE was such a success that Microsoft did not stop updating and supporting the OS until earlier this month, making it the longest officially supported version of Windows with the exception of 3.1, which was officially supported from 1992 to 2001.

Ah good old Win95. "This program has performed an illegal operation and must be shut down." That message was the bane of PC users everywhere.

Does anyone else remember the good old days of Windows 3.1? It took a lot of fiddling to get things set up (especially hardware), but once it was set up, I never had stability issues. In fact, Win3.1 is the only OS that I never needed to reinstall. All other OSes that I have used over the years (including MacOS X and Fedora Core 4) have needed to be reinstalled at some point to fix some error or another.

(98 > 2000 stability-wise.)
Actually, NTFS dates back to the mid-90s with Windows NT. Windows 2000 was the successor to Windows NT and was originally designed for businesses. As for stability, the Win2k kernal is a lot more stable than the Win32 kernal.

Windows 2000 has a relatively easy instllation structure. Basically, you just put the disc into your CD drive and boot your PC up. At this point, it should boot straight into the Win2K setup. If it does not, you'll have to go into your BIOS settings and make sure that your computer boots from the CD drive before the hard drive. Once the setup program has loaded, you basically follow the instructions. If I remember correctly, (It's been a few years since I last installed Win2K) it comes to a partition selection screen. At this point, if you use the arrow keys to select your current hard drive partition, a list of commands shows up on the bottom. Press the key that is listed as the command for "Delete partition" (or something to that effect). After that, I believe all you have to do is select the unpartitioned space and press Enter. At this point, it will ask you if you want to format in FAT32 or NTFS. Unless you have a small hard drive (5 GB or less), I would suggest that you format using NTFS, as it is more stable and secure. Once the drive is formatted, the system should reboot and start the Win2k setup.
