(What Kel said.) There are three game series – Exile, Avernum and Geneforge – so you could start with the first game in one of those series. Exile was Spiderweb's original game and is very good, if quite dated (released around 13 years ago I believe). The Avernum series is an updated version of the Exile series, and personally I prefer it and find it easier to play, but there is a lot to be said for Exile. Have a look at both. The Geneforge series is newer, and set in a different world with very different characters and abilities. I never got into it, mainly because I don't like real time games (Exile and Avernum are turn based). The other worthy mention is Nethergate, similar in appearances to Avernum but with a completely different setting and storyline. Very enjoyable. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Before you order you can download the games from the website, but will only be able to play the first part of each game (= demo version). If you want to play the full game then you order and pay up, and you'll be given a registration code to use on the game that you have already downloaded. Then you will have access to the full version of the game. If you want the game on CD then you can state this when you order, and I think it costs a couple of dollars extra. If you haven't already I'd suggest you download a couple of the games and have a mess around with them. There are details of how to order/register both within each game and on the website. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

Happy birthday Slarty, by the way. Favorite Ice Cream flavor? Rum raisin. Length of Major Sleep? 16 hours, during the Christmas holidays when I was 15. I had had a really rough time at school the previous term. When the holidays came and I could finally relax, I just crashed and slept 16 hours a night for two weeks. Favorite Arcade Game? If Chuckie Egg counts, then Chuckie Egg. Favorite movie made from a cartoon? Having not seen many cartoons that have been made into films, I won't choose a favourite. Favorite place to nap? Bed? Favorite print cartoon? No idea. Nemi is sometimes cool. Do you eat ice-cream during a cold weather? If I didn't, I'd almost never eat ice-cream. Favorite hour of the DAY to sleep? None. I'd rather sleep at night. Favorite Age? Meaning what was the year of your life that you enjoyed the most. 8, and 20/21. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Congrats. 2002 is a nice and almost symmetrical number. I'm actually looking forward to Alorael reaching such numerically pleasing heights as 12321 (not only palendromic but also 111^2) and 12345. I'm averaging fewer than 10 posts per month, in case that's of interest to anybody. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

If I had any idea whatsoever for a novel, I might consider taking part, just to see what happened. Other than essays for university and letters, I haven't written anything for years. Might be nice to have a computer that I can sit at for long perionds to write it on too. Maybe I'll just 'watch' this year and try to think of something for NaNoWriMo 2007. (Though I think it should be called IntNoWriMo.) -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

Nice site, looks very clean. Every time I see "the Bunker" I think of this, which I visited a while ago. It had some creepy videos from the sixties about how to protectively pad out your home in the event of fallout, and a room full of huge telecommunications equipment which I laughed at until I realised that my mobile didn't work at 20 metres below ground. I wish I knew what Kudos was. (Were? Sigh.) -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

Other than G3, none of the game releases appear to have been announced in that forum (unless topics have been deleted). A Gmail invite would be awfully kind of you, Dintiradan. I'll put (one of) my current email address(es) in my profile in a sec. I've heard too many others complain that Hotmail doesn't deliver messages to want to use it. I did have an account many aeons ago, but got fed up with spam and advertising. (Well what do you know. Up until two minutes ago when I checked Dintiradan's name to make sure I'd spelt it right, I was convinced that it was DinItiradan. Someone could have won a lot of money from me if they'd known.) -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

Yes, I find this kind of topic annoying too. *flashes winning smile* Can anyone recommend a good webmail provider? Stuff that'll make it good: - more than 3MB storage space (yes, my current email account only has that much) - secure and reliable - good spam prevention - minimum advertising - able to send attachments, naturally - able to forward to another address - won't refuse emails from my friends - makes cups of tea and gives sounds cooking advice. I'm also open to suggestions as to what my email address should be. All help much appreciated. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. *feels duty-bound to defend photo's authenticity* It's no scam! A friend of mine took it. You don't need studded tyres to cycle on snow. As you can see, the road has been gritted and the snow isn't even very deep. Anyway, as Milu says, it's not too difficult to cycle on hard packed snow. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Posts: 147 | Registered: Tuesday, October 18 2005 07:00 |

Originally written by Thuryl: quote:That is entirely possible. My main point was just that SoT was talking about the chances of a baby being born, while you were talking about the chances of a baby being conceived. They're not the same thing. Maybe in reality more male babies are conceived and proportionally more female babies are born, but SoT didn't state this in his scenario. If for some reason more female babies are conceived in that case, that might explain why more female babies are born (even though both genders have the same chance of being born once they are conceived). -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. Perhaps this is what SoT meant by kibitzing, but the distinction between conception and birth is important. I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard somewhere that although more male embryos are conceived, (proportionally) more female babies are born, evening things out. So in this scenario he stated that the chances of a male or a female baby being born were both 50%, but said nothing about conception. I don't suppose this is what he is getting at, but if lots more female babies are conceived, then inevitably more female babies will be born. -------------------- I think this is really wonderful. About four years ago there was an overnight heavy storm around where my dad lives. The next morning he woke up and noticed that much more light than usual was coming in through the back windows. He looked out, and discovered that the neighbour's great pine tree, twice as high as the house, had come down during the night. It had fallen over the row of back gardens, destroying a few fences and bushes but nothing worse than that. If it had fallen in any other direction it would have hit someone's house, quite possibly killing whoever was inside. (Incidentally, that same night was my birthday and I went out for the evening. My flatmates decided to have a party, for other reasons - I didn't want a birthday party - and they hired a smoke machine. The neighbours saw smoke emerging from our flat and rang the fire brigade. I returned at 2am to find fire engines surrounding our building and my [female] flatmates chatting up the firemen.) -------------------- I think this is really wonderful.
