Hey everyone, it's been awhile.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has signed up for the National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo)this year?

I just did today (first time and starting to regret it) and I seem to remember Aran participating last year (Or was it the year before?)

Didn't I just start a topic for this?

... oh wait, that was a year ago. >_< My how the time flies.

Yes, I was in last year, and the year before as well. I tried it three years ago too, but didn't finish.

So this'll be my fourth attempt, and if I finish, it'll be the third success. And maybe, it could even be the first one that doesn't suck, although I haven't got much hope for that.

And welcome back, Milla! It's been some time, hasn't it? :)

Last year you started this topic in the .. BoA forum, was it? Anyway, I participated last year and managed to win. This year I'm also damn well going to win! I can't accept anything less. First time victory sets high standards. :\

Also, this year I'm writing my story in English so all of you will be forced to at least read parts of it. Mwahaha! :P

E: Oh, Milla, what's your name over there? I'd rather like to add you to my friends list.

The Nanowrimo topic was posted in General. But I posted a question about Vahnatai in BoA, and then posted the novel there too.

And a good thing it turned out to be, because in General, it would probably have been gone by now. :)

Edit: I'll add you too, Siru/Milla, if that's all right.

I'm signed up and contemplating my participation this year, thanks mostly to Aran for alerting me to NaNo's existence.

Predictably, I'm Ephesos.

Oooh! *adds*

So, Milla, Ephesos... Have any ideas yet? I know Aran is planning on continuing his last year's story (unless you changed your mind since last chat) and has no idea where to go with it. :P

Me, I've got the all the twists written down as a synopsis, from beginning to (nearly) the very end. As to the characters and how realistic they are, well.. I'll just have to play along and hope they get their individual voices out.

Well, I exaggerated a bit (and since I said it, I've worked on my notes).

The first few scenes, I have managed to work out. I roughly know where I'm going, up to the climax of the story. The only problem is that I have no idea as to the resolution.

I'm thinking of writing a series of linked short stories which explore several of the minor characters and stories in Avernum.

I asked if this was allowed on the forums and I got the go ahead.

I toyed with the idea of an Avernum spinoff... but then decided that I might rather challenge myself.

That said, I have a vague idea, one that might be better applied to the short story that I have due Wednesday. I'm not sure, honestly.

Heck, I'm not sure I even want to commit to this.

EDIT: So wait, what are your sn's, Aran and Riibu?

If I had any idea whatsoever for a novel, I might consider taking part, just to see what happened. Other than essays for university and letters, I haven't written anything for years.

Might be nice to have a computer that I can sit at for long perionds to write it on too. Maybe I'll just 'watch' this year and try to think of something for NaNoWriMo 2007. (Though I think it should be called IntNoWriMo.)

I think this is really wonderful.

Arancaytar and Riibu, respectively.

And technically, mine will be an Avernum spin-off. If the Vahnatai/Nephilim characters count as such. I see it more as based on Ermarian.

What he said.

My story's a pseudo-love story, except people don't really fall in love and nobody ends up with anyone happily ever after in the end. It's got a lot of twists and a stupid, young naive girl in the lead. She sort of grows up during the story.

And maybe next year I'll have enough details worked out so I can write my Avernum ripoff too. I don't want the characters behaving the way they tried last year. They're mine, dammit. Mine to control!

Just tell your characters that if they don't smarten up, you'll take a leaf out of Terry Brooks' Voyage of the Jerle Shannara book (haha pun) and kill off about half of them in interesting ways. That should work...

It's interesting how everyone has a slightly different approach to writing. I tend to take the opposite approach when I write and let my characters do whatever they want. They know what to do. Most of the time.

Dikiyoba.

I take a similar approach, actually. Combined with my tiredness and reluctance to edit, that made some of them do and say weird things...

---

Oh, I was going to put a similar conflict into my BoA scenario (which *won't* be finished in time, partly because there is no way I will work on two time-critical projects in that blasted month of deadlines and lectures.) The villain somehow created the world the main characters enter, and claims them as "his creations". They kill him, though.

And now we have to watch out, less we drift off into Geneforge.

How about not? That's when judging for the contest will be running. Perhaps January...

Holy cow. That makes, what, 5-6 Spidernano-ers now! o_O

Well, I have to set up the gadgets I'll be using to write this year - it'll be a Drupal site this time, and a MediaWiki for taking notes and tracking changes.

Getting to play around with writing software is a big part of the fun for me. :)

Oh, this will be fun! Too bad we can't have any get-togethers. :\ Perhaps we'll have chats? That would be nice, I think. SpiNaNoPa chats!

Anyway, I'll be following everyone's progress closely. I like to see how much better I am doing than others. ^^

That sounds great - I'd be fine with Jabber, IRC or AIM.

In the past years, I've noticed that the greatest motivation for Nano is having other people writing as well and nagging you about wordcounts (I'd never have made it without you :D ). So writing in a group of 5, we'd have a far better chance of actually succeeding.
