Been playing a Duo for most of the day. My findings, with out violating the NDA. That annoying problem with Singletons happens to duos as well. It just happens a little later. Like, just when you really need experience the most because suddenly everything gets a whole lot harder, tons of undead, the dreadful fighting in [ithe Colony[/i] and so on and so on. Basically, experience says tootles and deserts you at the most critical point in the game. You could try a trio, but that would be pointless. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. On second thought, this doesn't belong here. And on third thought, should a Vlish be a Blademaster? Seems somehow wrong. Tentaclemaster maybe. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. Posts: 1104 | Registered: Tuesday, February 12 2002 08:00 |

I was bitterly disapointed with G3... But to give Jeff the credit he deserves, he did AVIV right. It really is a well done game. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. Avernum V. Jeff has made it quite clear that AVV is coming. Someday. In complete honesty, I don't want another Geneforge after giving it a lot of thought. G3 really, well, soured me on the Geneforge story. Exremist views on both sides, each more dastardly than the other, with no middle ground left. Blech. Of course, a whole new game would be great. Not Avernum, not Geneforge, not Nethergate. New. Perhaps using AVIVs engine but a whole new story, plot, new concepts, races, and creatures. Mmm. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. Posts: 1104 | Registered: Tuesday, February 12 2002 08:00 |

Yeah, I found that too last night when I tried a Singleton. The experience is funky now, and in no time at all it was biting her on the butt. She was blowing apart bugs of all kinds and only getting 1 exp for each kill, when usually for any of my parties this is a level gaining bonanza. I tried a slightly unusual route though in my Singleton. It was... Interesting. No nimble fingers, but I had a few points here and there to stick in to tool use. Um, I don't think I can list the traits she had because one of them is a new trait, and I don't think we can talk about it yet, but she was a Mage Priest and had traits that applied. Mostly, she focused on summoning. Blessed, Protected, Hasted Shades. When the experience came to a dead halt and she couldn't gain levels, I gave up deleted the save files. For the same reason that Singletons have issues, I believe at some point, a Duo will run in to the same problem. You would reach a point where the experience would turn in to a trickle if there wasn't a party present to balance it out. I don't think Jeff wanted any single all powerful character. Certain aspects of the game are made in such a way to defeat or stump almost any build and you have to have somebody else with a different skill set step in and clean up. A well made team. What that well made team is made up of will be the subject of much debate in this new forum. I would like to open that debate by saying a party of skilled archers and casters completely OWNS. I finished the game for the third time. Avoiding melee altogether made the endgame a complete walk through the park. And hopefully, I am not going to get in trouble for disclosing this bit if information, but the new Slith character graphic, the BIG one, looks mighty funny with a bow. It's scaled to his size, his bow is colossal, and his quiver looks like it is filled with javelins. One shudders to think of what an 8 or 9 foot longbow would do to somebody when it fired an arrow. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. I could see a tinker class of Shaper. No idea of what it might be called, but they would specialise in mines, turrets, planting thorn bushes that you would have to be able to come back later and harvest, etc. I think gameplay wise, they would play like a Bounty Hunter in Baldur's Gate SoA. Lay down a whole line of mines, traps, and maybe a turret or two, and then lure enemies through your deadly minefield when the situation allows. This would not always be the case. Then again, I don't see this happening in Geneforge. Nevermind. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. quote:Yeah, I was thinking of the same fight. A person with Strong Will has a good chance of resisting that though. Strong Will is an amazingly good trait I am finding. It gives you a chance of resisting all kinds of things. That, and a few points in luck, allow you to weasel out of all kinds of situations, basilisks included. It's sort of weird though, because when you have it, you never really notice that you have it. But when you don't have it, you sort of scratch your head and wonder what you are doing wrong. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Tool use must be raised well in to the 20s or the 30s. That's expensive. You could skimp out, but you would miss out on a lot that you didn't open, and being a Singleton, you would need to open those things for items, spells, etc, because being a Singleton you need all the firepower you can muster. Dispel Barrier must be had. No doubt. There are some areas that you simply can not pass with out this. And piercing crystals are to weak. Heck, there are some barriers that are so strong that even a jacked Dispel Barrier level isn't enough... You must really crank out the magic boosting skills. Some of the final gauntlets where you become immobilised through various means would be your undoing. You would want the Strong Will trait. Heck, there are moments where I get the feeling that four characters are not enough and I wish that there was six again. I gritted my teeth and played a game on torment to see how far I could go. I... Well, I have never been so humbled in a game before. I managed to clear the starting areas... I stubbornly managed to claw my way to the first part of the midgame. And then I had to turn down the difficulty. Death was often and frequent, swift, and brutal. Archer anythings meant that somebody was going to die. If the undead got within melee range, somebody was going to die. Nephil Warriors would chop me up into mysterious meat. Overall, I really liked it. I am going to try a torment game as soon as I figure out how to survive encountering remotely dangerous. Getting killed by a Giant Rat was embarassing. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. I would dare say that playing a single character is now impossible. You must have tool use and some hefty magic ability. There would be to many skill points involved. If you made a mage, you would be mired down in magic immunes and magic resistant enemies. You would be to fragile for combat. And you must be able to cast Dispel Barriers because piercing crystals don't do much. Jeff did a good job at putting a little something for everybody in the game. There is no super character, and no universal approach. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. Still no tasty vlish. I have dreadlocks and a kilt. I look a bit like Jack Sparrow. Kilt Wearing Scottish Ninjas. Watch the trailer. However, many pirates were misplaced Scots trying to make their way in the world. I could be either. Or both. I do know one thing. I am called the "Ninja of the Nasty." A little known dirty secret. You can trap a fart in the many pleats and folds of 27 feet of fabric wrapped around your middle. You can carefully edge your way in to a crowd and fluff your pleats, and instantly poison everybody. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV. There are some poisons that it can take 3 or 4 castings of mass curing to clear up. And in that time, it is possible to die. You can jack up poison resistance to well over 100% and still take oodles of damage, but thankfully this kind of toxic assault is rare. Of course, this is why you keep Curing Elixers on hand at all times on all members. Oh, and I do agree, acid has become a fomidable force, one that requires attention now. -------------------- If I could make just one wish, I would want a tasty vlish. Geneforge IV.
