Angband, Nethack, Might&Magic1&2, Zork, Adventure, etc.

Realmz was a bit buggy or unstable on my mac, so I never registered it. I have a copy of at least one of the Ultima games, but the emulator is not so good.

EDIT: I tried Omega a couple of times but it was too difficult for me, if we're talking about the same Omega.

What have you been reading lately? in General

Darn, I would have recognized that.

I begun to read Dispossessed a couple of years ago but haven't finished it for some reason. I've heard a lot about it, though, and it seemed interesting when I begun to read.

Based on the cover, I would guess that it was written in the 70's. Although it may have been just a worse than usual cover.

What I've read lately: Tears of Artamon (?) by Sarah Ash. Not bad. I'm trying to find the second part of the trilogy.

I've seen one fantasy short story in the second person, written by Jyrki Vainonen. It was quite good. It's probably available only in Finnish.

Thanks for the answers.

The Graphics Adjuster looks good otherwise but seems to have problems in selecting and showing the graphics. (I have iBook G4 10.4.9.) ResKnife works, but it doesn't show graphics, only the code. ResEdit would be great but doesn't work in OSX.

With google I found Rezilla, seems to be pretty good, and has worked so far.

Actually, then the question should be "Choose which scenario you think SHOULD take each place."

Or else I might check the scores at the Lyceum and guess that Frostbite (or something else) will take the 1st place though I haven't played it.

(EDIT: OK, this was probably unnecessary to say at this point...)

Spoon feeding the player: clues in Blades of Avernum
Warrior

I'd prefer a very specific walkthrough because the players can leave it unread if they want to solve the problems themselves.

I like to "think" about the solutions but I almost always get stuck at some point. If there's no walkthrough, I may be too lazy to ask about it on a forum. And sometimes no one answers the question.

I think there could have been less spoon-feeding in Avernums and Geneforges. I'd like to need the walkthrough, not just go from place A to B without thinking.

Same here.

The first fights of Bahssikava were too much for my party that had gone through the first 4 Vogel's scenarios.

And I haven't played many of TM's scenarios. And I should probably make a god party before I even try Frostbite.

That's good news.

I hope there is someone with the skills, free time and motivation to make at least the carbonized version. I don't need other improvements if they take too much time and effort, I just want to be able to play it.

Teleportation Technique in Blades of Exile

In a town-only scenario this system would be easiest.

(EDIT: Oh, that had already been said, didn't notice...)

Or teleporting inside town is one possibility.

In case the destination of the teleport is not controlled by the player, it might be interesting to try a teleport spell/device in every town, not knowing where you'll end up or how you'll get out of there...

My planned contest scenarios haven't experienced setbacks yet.

I'm currently trying to figure out a way to make the plot of one scenario more interesting. The scenario is otherwise nearly finished.

In my opinion, a person shouldn't generally get a three month sentence for lying.

Then again, it's difficult to draw a line on what a "hate crime" or some such is. Still, if this should be illegal, I think giving fines would have been enough. (I understand he didn't get the sentence for directly advocating violence...)

Of course, there are also other limits to democracy than legal limits. Publicity plays a large role in who gets the sympathies and power (and who is seen as an important person). In my opinion, the mass media shouldn't have given the man such publicity.

It's also interesting that extreme right wing parties have gained more power in Europe in the recent years.

I don't know, to me it seems like there was a left shift in cultural products some five years ago.

In politics, I'm not sure. There was an 8-year period in Finland when the largest left-wing, largest right-wing and a few smaller parties together formed the government. The center party (which was the third largest party) was in opposition.

Now, when the center party and the largest left wing party are in the government, the main right wing party is in opposition and complains about the poor state of health care/social services. However, the same party was cutting the funds of social services in the last government(s, local and national) together with Social Democrats.

It's risky, in a way. Described violence (especially detailed violence) tends to cause a stronger reaction in the reader, so it has to be used carefully.

As has been said, there should be some kind of motivations, or a believable background or something that makes the player think there's a reason for you to include the violence.

I wouldn't take pornography seriously in a Blades scenario.

That.

Of course the other possibilities that were mentioned are not bad, either... (mostly)

Hmm... Collect bodies and sell them to a necromancer... burn them to prevent their becoming zombies...

Making your own undead army is the best idea so far, in my opinion. It's great.

A heavy "body" item would seem more natural than a "blood stain" item.
