It's supposed to be cold in winter! :) In summer, 23 degrees would be a nice, and it's actually not a very unnatural temperature in june, july or august.

Anyway, last winter I was studying in Leeds, England, and it was not very different from this winter here.

I live in Finland (at the moment in Aland, which is an autonomous province in the south) and I'm disappointed with this year's weather. In december and months before that there was no snow. This year was also very warm, every day above zero (celsius) and the snow that fell melted away almost instantly.

At the end of march, the weather finally got cold and now there has been at least some snow on the ground during the day, too. I think I'm grateful for that.

Alright.

I hope this also applies to items that are "made" and placed with the Mac version scenario editor in a scenario that's played on a PC.

(If you all understand what I mean... :/ )

I've noticed that the "Stinking cloud" item ability actually makes a large sleep field. Is this mac-only or is it in windows BoE also?

(This is why, for example, the "gem of sleep clouds" in my New Market City now claims to cause stinking clouds...)

I've never seen it before.

A new utility scenario, New Market City, is available for download at the Blades Forge. It's for wasting money between scenarios and level raising. You can train whole parties or single party members to any level.

What is better Shapers or Rebels? in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

Rebels, maybe. I find I support the rebel humans' cause (more or less) but I'm against their tactics in Geneforge 1-4. I'm against the Shaper rule and I'm against their tactics.

No, their actions unintentionally lend support to the Shaper cause.
Likewise, the Shapers' cruel actions unintentionally lend support to the Rebel cause.

I'd rather compare the Shapers to Feudal lords than anything newer. On the other hand, no rulers in "real" history have so completely created their own subjects. (And I'm happy that Geneforge leaves room for imagination in this way. I'd hate to play something that resembles too much just a political statement on wars.)

I'll enter War Preparations and New Market City.

I'd put them on my site but I've forgotten the passwords, and it will take a while (at least a couple of weeks) before I'll get new ones. I guess I'll send the scenarios somewhere else meanwhile.

In the Geneforge games, some areas do damage to the party so frequently that at least I spend practically all the time there in combat mode. In consequence, most of my stupid deaths happen on those areas. I don't remember any particular right now, though.

Last year I read Robin Hobb's Liveship trilogy, Assassin trilogy, The Tawny Man and The Soldier Son trilogy. They were all excellent. Strange that I didn't find Hobb earlier...

If Finns could vote in the US presidential elections (what an interesting idea!) and I'd have to choose from those, I'd choose Obama because he has some opinions (or promises) I agree with. I'd vote against Huckabee or probably any republican.

Yes, the Finnish press has been watching those elections very closely.

Right on! -9.5 -9.5 all the way!

Actually around -8,5 -8 according to Political Compass. :P

Therefore, the "communist" label in the poll would be correctly "communist, at least in theory".

Wind power... Geothermal energy... There are some interesting alternatives that could be worth developing.

Mining uranium produces carbon dioxide emissions (in addition to waste). I've heard it's also a somewhat important issue with nuclear power.

Uranium has been found in Finland recently. But the companies that would mine it have had extreme difficulties in getting a permission to mine and probably will never mine there. People who live near the proposed mining site oppose it (as was to be expected) because of the effects on the environment.

EDIT:

Jevons paradox illustrates that as efficiency rises, consumption increases as well.
It doesn't apply in every country. At least in Sweden the growth of energy consumption has been stopped. I don't believe that conservation is against human nature.

Mostly games.

Maybe the community, a little bit. It's a bit different here than on most forums I've visited, so the discussions are sometimes interesting to watch. I've watched the boards from 2001.
