Actually, doesn't Rahul say something towards the end about how his days are coming to an end but yours are just beginning? It doesn't sound like he's dying or anything but it did sound like retirement wasn't too far around the corner.

Anyone else remember this?

There are 2 bracelets you need to find and have in your inventory. They are on the final island -- don't remember exactly where, but both are dropped by some big, bad golems. You can search around here for the exact locations as I'm sure someone has mentioned it at least once in the past.

The shaped items are everywhere-- not a ton of it, but more than enough to accidentally sell that shaped plate and still find 2 more to do stuff with.

Heck, you can get a shaped shield (2?) on the 2nd island. When you get to Lord Rahul, one of his guys'll sell you shaped stuff.

If you're playing with your eyes open you can't miss them.

hmm... I've seen this sort of thing stated before (saw it as a 3 somewhere). I'm able to have 5 different creations with my shaper (or 4 + alwan). Does this have to do with intelligence of the character or the level, or are people just miscounting when they post?

This is true, but it is made more difficult to do when you realize that your $$ caps out at 30k. Why does it cap out? There's no good reason... unless when your shaper gets there s/he's thinking, "well, 30k is about enough, I feel rich. I'll sell all this junk for free now."

If you play somewhat on the fence (or as a rebel), you have the opportunity to buy 2 of them. But the others require helping the rebels with the rogues, and helping them w/ Diwaniya by getting the canister OR using a ton of your living tools.

It is a bit of a spoiler.
You get a nice bracelet (worn on the hands).
Which, going by memory gives you:
+2 battle/ fire/ magic shaping
+1 STR/ DEX/ INT of creations.

It's *very* nice for shapers, decent for guardians, and not awful for an agent who occasionally wants to shape something but doesn't want to bother to spend any points in shaping skills.

Actually, Alwan has surpassed your training level. You are basically a kicking-boy/girl in the school, for which punishment you are allowed to read the texts and gets some mental training.

But Alwan, and I don't have the time to get the actual quote, is said to be "almost finished with his training to become a guardian".

Greta, it seems to me, also received a bit more training than you (or roughly equal), but was kicked out for her beliefs, not her abilities.

I think it comes down to the fact that you, even as an apprentice, show great potential. And this potential is brought to the fore by the simple fact that you have 2 choices, grow in strength or die trying.

There's also the Essence Charm which is +1 INT.
And I seem to remember a piece of equipment (not belt or shield) which gave +INT.... anyone else remember seeing that? I want to say it was a pair of gloves...

Yeah, I like the Agents the best. But... I found them a little too easy. I took my agent and used lots of blessing buffs and then went in and took stuff out hand-to-hand.
(And I also tried making a Guardian who could toss spells, but by the middle of game he was a pathetic wuss who kept getting is *ss handed to him until I pumped his melee up and went back to some tried and true.)

Well, mostly b/c Alwan was enough for a lot of it. Any time I hit a tough spot I usually created a big bad glaahk (or ur-glaahk) or several vlishes and a big thahd. Of course, once I hit the monastery, I had to bring out a pair of Gazers, b/c at that point Alwan *is* a useless wimp.
Mostly it's my playing style -- I'm not a fan of sitting on the bleachers hoping like hell my team wins and takes care of all the big-baddies before they wander over to sample the taste of my limbs. I like to jump in and help. To do that, I need some of my essence for dropping essence orbs and searers into the mix.
Essentially, I played a shaper weaker in shaping and stronger in spells than most people do. I went for a "well-rounded" approach.

I agree with Lord Nargil. I took Alwan with my shaper and he was often my only creation. There were definately times when his melee-only style was a pain in the arse, but for the most part, if I buffed him w/ Aug and Stone skin, threw a heal or 2 his way, he was a great meat shield for me while I tossed some spells into the general fray.

I used a Glaahk + curse power on a blade and between the 2, I almost never had to worry about getting hit in return.
Now if my target had a lot of little friends I had to use some dazing, but with 1 or 2 enemies they were usually toast before they could even move.)

How many secret passages have I missed like this one? I've found a few that were referenced elsewhere in the game: "we saw a secret supply cache" sort of thing. Are there a lot of the easter egg type secret passages?

Having played Avernum I keep looking at the black spots on each area thinking, "I wonder if there's something hidden there?" But there never seems to be anything when I look more in-depth.

I only remember ever finding 2 flames.
I'm on my third go-through right now.

btw, anyone have an idea where that 2nd purified essence is? I looked all over Khor's Deeps and the other areas nearby and couldn't find it.

Things you never expected a Shaper to say. in Geneforge Series

I always like to tell the female shopkeepers, particularly Ariyas on Harmony with the dried herbs quest :
"I would like to see your wares."
of course, there's another 'keeper where you demand it:
"Let me see you wares."

I guess, as a shaper growing in power, you get certain perks. ;)

yes, very simple.
When you go to your statistics screen, on the top right of the screen it says "See Abilities".
Click on that -- it doesn't look clickable and I never noticed it til someone here pointed it out on another topic, but that'll give you everything you need to know.

Endings (SPOILER ALERT) in Geneforge Series
Warrior
Member # 5731

Ok, 2 questions.
1) how many endings are there?
I've seen 2 -- the one where you're a rebel and go back to the council to gloat and then lead the rebel army, and the one where you've used some canisters and the council imprisons you until the attack and then you lead the loyalist army.
Is there a 3rd ending (or more)?
Is the no-canister ending significantly different, or is it just a few lines of text and you skip the imprisonment part and go right to the generalship?

2)As a rebel, is it possible to kill Akhari after he becomes an ur-drakon?
I tried it and I had him down to this tiny sliver of life after about 5 rounds, but then 20 rounds later he's still fighting...
Is this a bug? Or did Jeff not think anyone would bother and so didn't have any cool equipment available when you kill him and so he's unkillable?

What do YOU want to see in G4? in Geneforge Series
Warrior
Member # 5731

It seems like all of you who want to play a servile or drakon or human instead of a human are missing the best excuse for doing so -- there's a war on people. GF1 and GF2 were both fairly isolated happenings. Sure, if you lived in the area or were part of the shaper council you heard about it, but otherwise?

But now we have an entire continent in flames! Everyone knows at least two things:
1) Shapers ARE NOT omnipotent. There are forces out there that can kick shaper-butt, or at least fight them at an equal level.
2) Creations can exceed the power of the shapers, think for themselves and create new creations. Indeed, the drakons can out-shape the shapers. (though not everyone knows that part).

So now we have a world where instead of growing up in fear/awe/respect of the shapers and their power, you grow up thinking, "eh, they're ok, but I really like those drakon fellas -- they're the top dogs (ornks?) as far as I'm concerned."

Now, as a human, you can go up to the drakons and say, "the shapers killed my parents! I want revenge! Make me your weapon!"
(or to the shaper council and say, "the drakons.... i want revenge and they'll never suspect me! give me some power and i'll take them out")

As a drakon, you can either just join your side and try to pacify the rest of the continent that hasn't been taken over yet, or you can see that the drakons have become just like the shapers and now it's time to change that and get rid of both sides and let people rule themselves (and drakons rule themselves, and shapers... etc) and everyone tries to get along.

(of course, just trying to write the dialogue for this would be amusing when you, as a drakon, walk into a shop to do a little trading --
drakon: "human, give me a GOOD price on that essence pod!"
human: "uggh..." *thunk* passes out.
drakon: "ok, i'll just take this, and this and ...."

* * * * * *
I'd actually like to start out as a shaper apprentice in occupied lands. Your mission is now to get to freedom by fighting back to "free territory" or overthrow the local Drakon lord OR make friends (the rebel line) with the local Drakon and help it to overthrow the Drakon lord on his border and become an assassin to try to take out the shaper council.

So now you can actually finish the war. You could either wipe out the shaper leadership and bring down the society from the top, or you could bring down the drakon ruler from where you start and then go after Ghaldring and wipe him out.

(and of course, GF5 can always have an new mighty drakon who was over on the Sholai continent which is, according to the one you meet in Rahul's place, a "long, dangerous journey away" across the sea.

Wow, I'm good. I just laid out the plot not for GF4, but for GF5 as well!
Jeff, if you need more help, just let me know. :P

Essence shield in Geneforge Series

I know about augmentation. The point is that according to the spell description I should get a bump in HP. The description for essence armor is "like essence shield, but stronger" and I DO get HPs for that spell.

So what gives? Is ess shield glitched, or am I reading something wrong. "Shields a single target and increases its health..." seems pretty straightforward to me.
