I second that notion, Arctic. Instead of repeatedly saying that you'll be "good this time," just be good. I beleive OM should be canned rather than flamed, and then temporarily banned if he spams more (which includes more of these topics, they are getting very irritating).

But flaming, which is what this topic has been about for the last 30-odd posts, is not the right thing to do.

Arctic, thank you. IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) - Influences Players Opinions_files/wink.gif)

DMing is really quite simple because players are eager to believe anything you say. A lot of the time, I sit down with merely an idea of a blueprint of a skeleton seen through a fog of an adventure, and draw the map as the party goes through a dungeon. Also, tweaking rolls is incredibly simple when using optional rules.

The first edition DnD books are somewhat Satanically illustrated. A party of adventurers fighting a demon who's preparing to eat a scantily-clad warrior-lady is depicted on the front cover of the first edition player's handbook.

Math, especially probability and statistics, helps, but isn't entirely imperative to being a player. And the dice are nothing special, since it isn't very hard to toss a piece of plastic, no matter how many sides it has.

You just have to have connections to get a custom title, that's all. Connections, and a bucket of I'llregistergamesforyouifyougivemeacustomtitle.

Indeed, Order Mage, you do need to get a handle on things. People will dislike you if you give them the opportunity, and this poll just asks for it.

Listen to (almost) everybody for once. Seriously, read our posts and think about them. You've been told time and time again not to spam, and not to ask who is out to track you down and bludgeon you with something heavy and metallic.

If you have any specific greivances with specific members, deal with it through PM's or email. It's more effective that way because it does not irritate anybody else, as this topic has ended up doing.

Your signature reminded me of the trip I just came back from. Cornell is the best place ever. Best best best best best. No doubt about it. The scenery is great, the food is OK (a huge improvement from other colleges I've visited), the dorm rooms are bigger than broom closets, the faculty:student ratio is nicely low, they accept my AP credits, there's a nobel-laureate teaching physics, they are completing a nanotechnology building this fall, there's a park with a waterfall nearby, the weather is mild and pleasant, the campus is spacious, my chances of getting in are above Bose-Einstein Condensate temperatures, the education is incredible, the tuition is hell-to-pay (literally), there's a very nice motel nearby except they use this really smelly cleaning solution that reminds one of rotten cabbage, the school's got name recognition, it's an Ivy-League school, and I just plain felt at home there.

So my question to the board is: will I get accepted?

The elephant most certainly does not exist. For example, there could be a pink elephant mobile parked in my driveway, and I'm just not noticing it.

So I think everything that you don't notice exists, just not in a way that you can notice it.

The one thing I don't understand then is how somebody would not be able to use magic. Why would you need a wizard to speak some funny words when a peasant could do exactly the same thing? In Dungeons and Dragons-based magic systems, the logic is that a mage must study spells before casting them.

But other systems have the act of saying funny words be all that needs to be done to cast spells.

Thanks RoR!

ADoS, with the attitude you showed me on instant messenger, I'd be very, very surprised if RoR ever unblocked you.

EDIT: In a sudden torrent of remorse and guilt, I've deleted a dumb joke that I should never have thought of in the first place.

I was banned for spamming like nobody in their right mind (besides me) would spam. I've was banned for three weeks, and came back a few days ago using this account (and not some invisible newbie account) due to *i's magnificent persuasion powers and my shiny new title.

RoR, I don't understand you. We had a few nice conversations on instant messenger, but because of my political views you spew all sorts of insults at me. I apologized for spamming, I was banned for three weeks, I learned my lesson, and now I'm back.

You advocate peace, yet you've started your little war with me and you won't relent.

So, Rider of Rohan, may I be honored with an end to your scorn? Or are you going to continue this vendetta until the day I die?

Mind if I ask what a "murkin" is? If you do, that's just too bad. What's a "murkin?" :P

And thanks for welcoming me back. I'll give you a belated welcome back as well, since I wasn't quite able to post that when you did return.

MY CRYSTALS GREW I'M SO HAPPY I'M GOING TO CELEBRATE WOO WOO WOO!!!!

How many conspiracies are going on at Polaris, Desperance, and Spiderweb? And if possible, could you list them by name or pseudo-name?

"Sir Motrax" is a brain-eating pirate monkey, and I must say that is quite respectable. Only the brain-eating death monkey that is "se dogs" could possibly win against me.

Compaq, for me at any rate, was quite a decent company. All of my computers that I've gotten past the 166 mhz one have been Compaq, and I've never had problems. Their customer support was also incredibly helpful and courteous.

I say was because they got bought out by HP, a company which I dislike quite a bit. And Dell too.

Anyone have a link to this "Trillian" contraption?

ef is still around, although she's not posting a whole lot. And for that matter, I'm not either. General is quite a bit too spammy right now, in it's half-misc/general state.

Alright, I've had enough of UBB. It's been terribly slow lately - I can't imagine what it's like for the 56kers... and it's causing rampant double posting, for which I apologize now.

I bet Drakey is going to do some terrible things with my title when he comes back, since I've spent so long asking for it. Stareye, have the courage to stand up to the 5-year-old James! Don't let him take over my title!

Zephyr, just drop me a PM please, and describe everything in quite a bit more detail. Much easier that way!

EDIT: Never mind that. I'll PM you tonight or tomorrow.

I never sent you any *message*. What was it about?

Custer, I've been banned for a month, I've apologized to the mods, I've apologized to everybody else, and I will not do anything like that again. You've known me for less than a month. Keep on despising me, but I do ask that as time passes, you don't hold this as a permanent grudge. Also, despite the hypocracy of me asking you not to spit epithets at me ("abusive conservative"), I'm asing you not to spit epithets at me. I'm not going to join any political conversations any time soon, so please do not goad me into that.

Actually, Drakey is still on vacation. The custom title came from an anonymous donor who's name I'm afraid I cannot divulge, for fear of others bugging him for a custom title.

Zephyr, what is this *ahem* thing I *said* to you and needed to respond to but didn't?

Yeah, well, about my computer... that picture isn't entirely honest. I photoshopped some of the text there, although I'll leave you to find out which text that was. (It's not the Intel logo, that's authentic)

How's the charicature? It's me when I was 9 years old.

And indeed, I shall have to engrave "this side towards enemy" on my swords. Speaking of which, those would make interesting photos.

Finding nowhere else to make this on topic, Motrax clicks the "add reply" button.

-Motrax, who is glad to be back by rendering a topic obsolete, stealing Alorael's signature, spelling Aloreal's name wrong, showing off a neato custom title, linking to pictures of Motrax, saying "hi!" to everybody, saying "it's good to be back" to everybody, using circumlocution, and using the word flummox all in one post.

I'll finish that up for you Djur.

SirMotrax2021 (12:38:23 AM): It's all true.
SirMotrax2021 (12:40:16 AM): What's wrong is the innocent glee everybody has when they point to how terrible America has been.
MBoehX (12:40:38 AM): There's no glee in it.
SirMotrax2021 (12:41:06 AM): Oh? Self righteousness then? Doing your civic duty to show where America went wrong?
MBoehX (12:41:23 AM): Who says I'm being critical at all?
MBoehX (12:41:33 AM): I'm stating simple facts.
MBoehX (12:41:51 AM): (21:15:27) Becka: Tell him if I were him and this vehement about my country I would just post a reminder that despite the bad things America has done, it's free and blah blah blah
(21:15:39) Becka: And then people would take me seriously.
(21:15:42) Becka: Honestly.
SirMotrax2021 (12:42:15 AM): But I've already done that!
SirMotrax2021 (12:42:29 AM): So many god damned times I'm starting to believe everyone is blind!
MBoehX (12:42:39 AM): Why bother?
SirMotrax2021 (12:43:17 AM): Why bother what? What I'm doing now?
MBoehX (12:43:42 AM): Why bother doing it? If you don't think you can change anybody's mind using actual facts, why bother?
SirMotrax2021 (12:44:56 AM): I think VWM is the only person who's reacted to my logic. He apologized for his post about the fourth of July.
SirMotrax2021 (12:45:05 AM): *"logic"
SirMotrax2021 (12:45:20 AM): Perhaps I can change people's minds doing this.
MBoehX (12:45:54 AM): Hardly. The only thing I or anyone else sees here is a desperate buffoon.
SirMotrax2021 (12:46:10 AM): Buffoon, maybe. Desperate, hell yes.
SirMotrax2021 (12:46:16 AM): But that's the idea.
SirMotrax2021 (12:46:57 AM): Perhaps when people see Motrax finally going crazy and dosing something utterly stupid and pointless, they'll start thinking about what I've said in the past.
MBoehX (12:47:18 AM): Or maybe they'll decide you're an idiot (if they haven't already) and ignore you.
SirMotrax2021 (12:47:20 AM): It's shooting the moon, but there isn't too much left to do.
SirMotrax2021 (12:47:28 AM): Ok, that'd be fine too.
SirMotrax2021 (12:47:36 AM): I've been thinking of leaving spiderweb.
SirMotrax2021 (12:47:46 AM): And devoting my extra time to studying.
MBoehX (12:47:56 AM): What worthwhile have you said in the past? "So what if America's at the bottom of industrialized nations in ranking of civil rights? IT'S FREE!"
SirMotrax2021 (12:48:50 AM): Did I say that just now? That's funny. I copied and pasted from so many places, I could've called myself a moron and not have noticed.
MBoehX (12:49:04 AM): God.
MBoehX signed off at 12:49:07 AM.
