Pokey the Penguin is a sporadic exercise in semi-Dada absurdism by a young man named Steve and his younger brother. It has absolutely nothing to do with Desperance other than the fact that many of us are fond of it, plus I'm somewhat acquainted with both of the Authors. I can't speak for any other site, but there hasn't been a conspiracy at Desp since Gemini. Who da man? Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I would think that the idea of magic is about understanding how things really work, so a good physicist or philosopher (original meaning) would be the equivalent of a wizard. What is the origin of WTF, QLB and ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US and the other zany initials on the boards? -------------------- Tip of the Day: #13 Stand clear the closing door. That's treason. The lb abbreviation comes from the Latin word for scale, Libra. The rest, I know not. -------------------- ... Posts: 647 | Registered: Wednesday, February 19 2003 08:00 |

As far as I know, I am the only one on this board with an "All your base..." in my signature. Why I have it, I cannot remember. I hope that answers your question, or did I totally misinterpret it? -------------------- All your base are belong to us!!!! http://people.cornell.edu/pages/slp29/ayb.html Posts: 138 | Registered: Saturday, April 12 2003 07:00 |

Your signature reminded me of the trip I just came back from. Cornell is the best place ever. Best best best best best. No doubt about it. The scenery is great, the food is OK (a huge improvement from other colleges I've visited), the dorm rooms are bigger than broom closets, the faculty:student ratio is nicely low, they accept my AP credits, there's a nobel-laureate teaching physics, they are completing a nanotechnology building this fall, there's a park with a waterfall nearby, the weather is mild and pleasant, the campus is spacious, my chances of getting in are above Bose-Einstein Condensate temperatures, the education is incredible, the tuition is hell-to-pay (literally), there's a very nice motel nearby except they use this really smelly cleaning solution that reminds one of rotten cabbage, the school's got name recognition, it's an Ivy-League school, and I just plain felt at home there. So my question to the board is: will I get accepted? -------------------- Polaris Posts: 1614 | Registered: Wednesday, January 23 2002 08:00 |

quote:It depends. Wind interference, temperature, the phase of the moon, and a host of other factors would alter the answer. Because your taste buds have been corrupted by gamma radiation. Or maybe just some bad taffy. SMoCA, as long as you lied profusely on your college app, you're in there like swimwear. If you told the truth, I'm afraid it's a little iffy. -------------------- "... and approximately one sea turtle." Posts: 277 | Registered: Tuesday, August 13 2002 07:00 |

Cornell is very cool. I was accepted there as well as Notre Dame but lack of funds meant staying near home I'd hate to see the tuitions now! They were high when I applied 30 years ago...can't even imagine now... and yes, Motrax, I figure you will get in.... All your base are belong to us was in a comic strip, Sally Forth. When I see things two widely seperated places, I kind of wonder where they came from. SMoCA what are your AP scores? I would think that your entrance into cornell would be depenent on if they are already filled their dragon minority quota this year. Is the warble common or tufted? (do you mean warbler, the bird or something else) Why are the great apes so much stronger than people? What did Gray Davis actually DO wrong?
