Approx. five leagues to the east of Solaria: Captain Spencish, Riner's second-in-command, was out with a scouting party. It had been a dull morning, and he was looking forward to getting back to Solaria.

Jalcom, one of the smarter soldiers that Spencish commanded, came up to him with some possibly exciting news.

Saluting first, he said, 'Sir, we have chanced upon sighting a person, or large animal, in the distance. We are keeping an eye on him, and will let you know if we have any developments.'

'Wait, I'll go with you,' Spencish replied, half eager for something to do other than sitting on the ground.

Together, they carefully crept along to a larger tree than where they were at. It took a while, but eventually the creature, who Spencish identified as a nephil, came within bow shot. For some reason it wasn't as careful and stealthy as Spencish had read about.

Captain Spencish sent out some scouts to flank out around the nephil, and trap him.

Watching from his spot, Spencish saw the scouts sneak up and throw a net on the (seemingly) asleep nephil.

'Bring him in, boys!' Spencish shouted.

Once the nephil had been rather ungraciously dumped on the ground, Spencish got a good look at his features. It was small and nimble looking, like he had read. But there was one thing that stood out on him: The nephil had a strange symbol on its forearm, kind of like a 'w'. Once it woke up, it started snarling and striking at the net. The Captain ended the scouting hike there: replacements would have been coming soon anyway.

--

Solaria:

Where the bloody hell have I seen it?

That is what Riner kept thinking.

He was busy writing a letter to The Order of Kaz, to the south, but the locket kept crossing his mind. Blocking it out, however, he focused on the tasked at hand: He wanted an alliance with the faction to help fight off the increasing nephil population that was moving west from the Jsoulza mountains.

So far, his letter read:

To whom it may concern,

Greetings to the Order of Kaz. I am Riner, leader of the Solaria Group, which is situated to the north. I am writing this letter to you as an invitaion to join myself and my supporters in an alliance, to help ward of the Nephil threat to the east.

You do not have to accept, or even reply to this message, but I would just like you to know that we are not against you.

Kind regards,
Riner and the Solaria Group.
"

Finishing happily, Riner went to bed.

--

He was woken up late in the morning by one of his guards.

'Sir,' they said, 'Captain Spencish has a prisoner. A nehpil was sighted about five leagues to the east; we captured him and we are bringing him back now.'

'Fair dinkum? Good. I'll talk to him once I have fed myself up.'

Hopefully the day can keep getting better, Riner thought to himself dryly.

Before he ate, he sent a soldier on a fast horse to deliver the letter, and went to talk to the nephil, who had arrived by the time he had ate his breakfast.

{Yes, I know it shouldn't be here. But I just posted in the other thread. :P }

The OOC thread is for the discussion on the RP; i.e the maps.

IC:

It was a couple of days later, and Riner was back in Solaria, still pondering the origins of the locket. He was in his study where he expected few interruptions. As usual, however, he was interrupted.

'Come in,' Riner said without looking up. Jalcom entered, and he had a length of parchment.

'Sir,' he started respectfully, 'we recieved a letter for you. It appears to be from a group of people, but we are not sure of their name.' He put it on the table, saluted Riner, and left.

Placing the locket (which he still had no idea about, other than it was of Nephilian origin), he crossed to the table and opened the letter.

It read:

"To the leader of the group,

Expect representatives of the Guild to be contacting you shortly. We come with no ill intentions.

The Guild."

After reading the message, Riner frowned. He had heard of the Guild before, but never been contacted personally.

Turning back to the locket, he once again looked over every bit of the locket. He was getting very frustrated. Then with a snap of realization he saw a symbol on there, a symbol which he recognized from somewhere, but couldn't quite place it.

Why in Dintiradan revealing his "evil" plans to people that may not be trustworthy? Pretty foolish.

IC:

The Nephils seemed to be tiring.

Dismounting, Riner went and talked to Spencish, his second-in-command.

He seemed to scare the Captain when he spoke. 'Captain, what is the situation?'
'Sir, good to see you sir. The nephils are tiring, we should have this done by sun down. We have suffered losses numbering 100, and have 150 injuries.'
'Is there any way we can surprise them?'
'I've already sent a group out to go around, sir, and attack from behind.'

At that time, a huge cheer was heard by the soldiers. The nephils were divided, wondering which way to go. Eventually they just had half facing each direction, and that was what ruined them.

--

The next day, once the nephils were gone, the dead soldiers were buried and the injured cared for, Riner walked through the dead to find any indication of who did it. He found a locket, and decided to keep it until he got back to Solaria.

OOC: Slartucker: Good work; that will come in handy for a lot of people.

And with the Nephils in Jsoulza: I just intended them to be a small group, not really a faction. If anyone takes them up, however...

IC: Riner gathered some supplies and left quickly. Figuring that it would be at least a days ride, he travelled light.

Outside of Solaria, he looked back. Being the capital of the Empire naturally meant that it was large, but after the collapse, people had left. That effectively killed the outskirts. Looters had raided most of the area, and only the poor live there. The rising sunlight on Solaria made it look like the place was on fire.

Turning away from his city, he rode off.

--

When he got to the battle, what he saw dismayed him.
