Completely in agreement. I'm thoroughly a warm-weather person, although I've lived almost my entire life near Chicago. Blame it on the tropical blood, I suppose. I've come to the serious realization in recent times that I refuse to spend the rest of my life in generally cold areas, and have also marked out Arizona as a potential area of residence for the future. Heat and humidity can be a bad combination, but I can take any amount of hot, dry weather.

EDIT: And once you've experienced snow for twenty winters, trust me, it gets old.

Coronas are nice, and although it's been a while since I had one, I consider it one of my favorite beers.

As for wine, I agree entirely, with a single semi-exception. I really enjoy Boone's Farm wine, which hardly qualifies as the genuine article, being processed and sweetened into submission, then priced at $3 per 24 oz. bottle.

With respect to vodka vs. tequila, I suppose it's a question of which is slightly less painful to chug a shot of, and as such vodka wins the dubious award. But only an extraordinarily good mixer can make either taste halfway decent.

I need to try stuff like scotch, brandy, and bourbon, but as of yet I haven't really had an opportunity. Damn college drinks are the only ones I can get my hands on.

Exactly. I find that many of the common beers are rather nice, especially Miller Lite. It's just the really horrible kinds, like Icehouse, Keystone Lite, Natural Lite, and Oldstyle that give the rest a bad name.

I haven't tried a great enough variety of alcoholic beverages to name a conclusive favorite. As I'm entirely lacking in an independent income and am as such forced to drink at college off a rather strict budget, I've been forced to stick largely to standard college drinks. Believe me, I wouldn't drink Colt 45s if I didn't have to.

Your point regarding beer at parties being preferable to other beverages is an excellent one. I, too have ended up far too plastered far too fast at one or two parties as a result of consuming potent beverages like jungle juice at a terrific clip. I can remember a particular occasion where friends were forced to drag me home, minister to me with bread and water, then put me to sleep three or four times, until I stopped wandering aimlessly back out into the hallway and actually complied. Felt guilty about that for more than a few days afterwards.

Bars on campus tend to be really expensive compared to liquor stores and parties, and most of the time I'm unwilling to pay more than five bucks for a single night of boozing. Parties are usually a thoroughly cheap three or four dollars for an unlimited cup, and two forties usually cost about the same. During first semester I mostly stuck to consuming Colts and Boones Farms in a room with a bunch of pals, but this semester we've decided to not be such huge losers and have consistently chosen parties over the standard sausage-fests.

My roommate this semester is from Britain and attends Reading University. He's going back there after this semester. His accent is of course interesting and very pleasant at times, but I most confess that on certain occasions I can find it quite, quite annoying.

Canned is a sort of reprimand for consistently bad behavior that doesn't quite merit banning. It's basically just a custom title and has no effect on its possessor's ability to post.

However, when a member is Banned, he is no longer allowed to post on the boards at all until administrators reinstate him, which may never happen in the case of certain truly egregious offenders.

And I'm also curious as to why my beloved has been banned. :(

Doesn't it? Windows has done a lot to catch up with Apple in the area of aesthetics in interface, but OSX blows XP clear out of the water in this category. Apple has always been at the forefront of things in graphics, and that's unlikely to change anytime soon.

I don't believe that Mung meant that the human body can never be interpreted in a sexual or pornographic sense. I think he was just pointing out the fact that aesthetic beauty can be separated from sexual attraction at times, namely when a heterosexual man such as myself is able to judge a fellow man to be handsome. At least that's the point I was attempting to establish.

EDIT: As a disclaimer, though, he was a bit more strident in his statements than I was, so I may be wrong regarding his points. It seems as though he's claiming that the sight of even a beautiful, unclothed woman inspires only aesthetic appreciation in him, not sexual arousal. I'll make no such claim myself. ;)

I suppose once you've gone to one too many parties featuring kegs filled with Oldstyle or Keystone Lite, a bottle of a decent beer like Miller Lite tastes divine by comparison. Hell, I've gotten down two Colt 45's down in a single sitting, and although I'll never claim it was easy, I managed it without too much trouble. Of course I found beer disgusting when I first tried it, but so does nearly everyone else. It's an acquired taste, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it might be to acquire. Being forced, over and over again, to get drunk off of keg beer at parties where it is the only available option can really make one forget all about those tiny taste buds screaming for mercy. Drink fast enough, and they'll soon return to their former complacency.

That said, I'm certainly not averse to other drinks. I'll often fill my cup with jungle juice (kool-aid and everclear) at parties where it's available rather than beer, although that's often more for reasons of expediency than taste. Whiskey sours can be very nice, and I have a real soft spot for the fabulously cheap, thoroughly processed Boone's Farm wine. I'll even dabble in the chick drinks now and then- I've had a Kahlua white russian before, and it was good stuff.

My credible source regarding Desperados is a girl I met last semester who's studying this semester in France. Girls tend to have less of a tolerance for really nasty-tasting things, from my observation, and as such I'm inclined to trust their drink recommendations.

Mung, I agree entirely with your point about how the beauty of the human form can be appreciated from a purely aesthetic sense. Granted, when assessing feminine beauty, I can rarely keep sexual attraction out of the picture. I tend to see that as entirely natural, though, not a weakness I must overcome. I wear my shallowness almost as a badge of honor. In terms of male beauty, I am capable of recognizing it from a purely aesthetic standpoint.

It annoys me, sometimes, that several of my male friends claim not to be able to gauge the aesthetic beauty of other men. I see their protestations as an insecure defense of their heterosexuality, but perhaps they really are incapable. After all, I've been gifted for as long as I can remember with an exquisite aesthetic sense. It's no accident that I'm a lifelong Mac user.

I was Take A Golden Gander, as most everyone knows, as I was also found out very, very early. I didn't really make any effort to alter my posting style in any way, and it seems that it's not the first time I've used or mentioned that moniker, although I don't at all remember doing so in the past. Not surprising, since I've had it in mind for quite some time, and since conceiving of it have always found it uncommonly witty.

I'd say this is far superior than most other introduction topics. At least jaybee has attempted to make himself useful in some way, rather than just crassly announcing his presence. I'll give the beverage you mention a try if I ever happen to run into it.

It's rather astounding the things people claim mix well with beer, which has always struck me as an essentially stand-alone drink. Have you ever heard of a Desperado? It's apparently a French beer fortified with tequila and lime, and I've heard from a credible source that it's quite tasty. Go figure.

Welcome to SW! As is customary with me, this greeting is thoroughly late and superfluous. I'll add just a bit more archaic advice: don't step on any of the many tails you might see around. There's a mighty army about, and it doesn't appreciate being disturbed.

EDIT2: Whenever I use the nickname "Stugie," the pronunciation is markedly different from the original. STOO-jee
