Not all organisms can combine, there has to be a certain amount of protein similarity between the zygotes or an attempt at fertilization can't even be made, and unless the similarity goes far beyond that, the only thing you get out of it is a stillbirth.

And I wasn't implying Vahnatai creationism, just some order of relatedness between the "sentient, humanoid species" of the world. I merely stated that this kind of thought is something a Vahnatai creationist might like to get their hands on.

I personally think that the gods [whatever they might be in jeff's mythos], if their followers believe that they're responsible for biogenesis [which they probably do, since that’s the standard role of a god in any theological system], may have came to consensus as to a particular template to cast their various offspring in, including the vahnatai.

One of the "great cave bandits" was a nephil-human hybrid. Either that a horrible, horrible, though puzzlingly human-like mutant, or a extremely bizarre magical experiment.

This fact leads to possibility that humans and nephil have at least some base genetic compatibility [at least enough to create some sort of monstrous mule-like crossbreed.] It makes me wonder what other avernum humanoid species are capable of interbreeding, though its not likely to happen since for the most part they're too busy killing one another.

If there is a common genetic template in the "humanoid family" instead of convergent evolution at work, you have to ask yourself "how?", and then immediately afterwards "who?"

[This is just begging for vahnatai creationists to snap it up.]

Vahnatai, deities, extra planar beings, in any instance something funny is going on :P

[Eeepp didn't notice the typo in the Title.]

I meant that as in the "universe" in which the story takes place... that was probably known, but oh well. *appeasement*

Human beings are neither inherently good, or evil [like any sentient being, or any living being for that matter.] "Good and Evil" are also neither inherently good or evil, based on the fact that morals [though some people will argue against it], arise from: the personal psychology of the beings involved, the dual biological imperatives of self preservation and societal self sacrifice [the former is an older, intensely powerful, intensely influential mechanism, while the latter is newer, and mostly present in more "Advanced" organisms.], interlinking of "self-awareness" spheres through empathy, and willpower.

Good and evil are the products of evolving consciousness, the interplay of awareness, self-awareness, and empathy [the awareness of other's self awareness.] While they can't be universalized, [due to foreseeable differences in the psychology of various conceivable sentient species], there is a common theme. "Evil" is the perception of ill-will where awareness and self awareness collide, where one's awareness allows for the self projection of another's suffering, in short where your awareness absorbs another through empathy and decides, "I wouldn't want that happening to me." "Good" is the inverse process.

Please note that while this alone seem to account for all the morals and particular tradition has, it falls together when you bring the societies taboos, traditions, problems, and worries into the picture.

Oh yes, in response to the statement that animals don't know "good an evil." Some of them are weakly sentient [possessing of both awareness and self-awareness], and as such most likely have their own "morals."

Conciousness isn't a gift, or an anomaly, its a process, it appears over time, building in layers. We are what we are, thanks to the lizards and the ancient omniverous mammals, and the greater primates that came before us. For better or worse, and anything that comes after us will be what they are because of us in like turn, for better or worse.

When I run an optimize I do that kind of stuff... more extreme stuff too O.o In the geneforge games, I ran past or killed all of the monsters I could, stole all the money and items I could, and went straight for the end game trainer... O.o after I got the hang of it, without a stich of cheating :P I was able to train most of the skills before investing any of the skillpoints I'd earned from leveling... I'm going to try to do the same thing in A4 [I'm going to invest a few to get the untrainable skills and stats up to the levels I want them at, but none other than that.]

I suppose on some of the classes, the extra points could be considered equivalent to training [if they're in areas you'd train in], or of no consequence [ie, untrainable], since the point of training is to free up points by spending money instead... I'd just have to think about my maximize in terms of points saved due to training, versus points saved due to kits.

I've never stopped to consider it... but do the points added from "kits" contribute to the two points that you can learn from a trainer? [I've never experimented... though, I'm going with the assumption that it does.] all of the kits give more points than custom [some more than others], and some of them look like they fit the builds I want to use for some of my characters.

Oh yeah, on a side note... does anyone know, or suppose when the effective cap on party luck is? [10pts, 20 pts, 30 pts, 40 pts]

I just checked out "Zero To Lazy Eight: The Romance of Numbers", and "Weighing the Soul: Scientific Discoveries, from the Brilliant to the Bizarre."

Before that I read "Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea." and "At Winter's End" [A Science Fiction book I ABSOLUTELY LOVE.], and a Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Religious peice I can't remember the name of, but was very good. And "Scars" one of the "Ironclaw Novels"

Two or Three Paragraphs from a story I've been writing.
quote:

Rezera turned aside pulling his legs up into the bus stall, laying his temple against the headrest as he peered out the window at the passing scenery. The boy, for lack of a better term, had the look of a man, albeit a young one, and definitely the age of one; but something in him didn't agree, he was fragile, slightly unpredictable, and at times it showed. Thoughts floated freely through his head as the hills rolled past behind pane of the bus' window; thoughts about class, thoughts about writing and artwork he'd all but abandoned, sometimes days ago sometimes weeks. Again, thoughts of the disappointment he'd felt lately, and of the guilt he felt toward some of the people he was closer too, or at least wanted to be closer too. Although he was only a few days into his next semester of classes; the ride was already routine, it had been since the day he set foot back on the bus. He'd simply been here, and done this before.

He pulled a pair of bud earphones from a packet on the hiker's pack he usually carried; crammed with his usual variety of "equipment" a sketchbook or two, a book on physics of math, useless to him but necessary to slip of paper he'd been pursuing, a few CDs and a portable player, notebooks of paper filled with notes, pertaining to many things, most of the unrelated to classes or school, and often times filled with doodles or other such nonsense. Cracking his neck gently, he slipped the buds into his ears, stringing them down from the black furred cones to follow that cord further to its end in the prong of an audio jack. The boy turned in his seat, pulling his legs up again as his back slid across the material of the seats coming to rest against the metal of the wall; his head tilted back, eyes momentarily locking on the florescent lights mounted in the ceiling, which were all that more apparent as the dusk began to claim the scenery at the peripheries of vision. His eyes closed, quietly sampling the noise of tires on pavement, and the hum of the engine for a few moments before his fingers slid to the little black arrow emblazoned on the player the buds had been plugged into, a mix list of tracks from his music collection at home clicking into perception. Most of it bitter-sweet melodies, with matching lyrics, interspersed with moments of upbeat enthusiasm, all of them displaced by a press of the finger and the entry of the following track before a song that bit a little deeper made its way to his ears.

is eyes fluttered open, the way they were accustomed to doing, he often looked to be sleeping on the long ride home most nights; but most of the time he watched people, usually from behind a half-lidded gaze. An unfamiliar face making him remember a familiar one, a former lover, a friend, someone he missed dearly, someone he'd upset and disappointed; though someone he'd already consciously marked as a hypocrite and a traitor, however as was usual of him, words and thoughts didn't sync up perfectly, and his heart didn't follow along with his head. The only thing he could bring himself to do was let a sigh pass his lips and dismiss it, that was already long since over; and it really made no sense to dwell on it, and thus put himself back to the lyrics. He was actually muttering along to them now, "singing" as loud as he could without being heard, he wasn't really interested in doing a good job of it, or even vocalizing, the words mainly crossed his lips to divide his attention; "Here I go... Scream my lungs out, and try to get to you... you are my only, my only one... I let go, there's just no one, that gets me like you do... you are my only, my only one..." The repetition itself is probably what made him see the error in his judgment; the words, now spoken, cut deeper than before. He took for himself another quiet sign and breath before shifting again in his seat, pulling his legs up against the back of the chair in front of him, turning his head to stare out into the dimming dusk; repeating to himself, "that... was mighty foolish..."

Rest of the story... so far...

I've also been known to do ****ty poetry and write lyrics from time to time.

I'd place my bet on a combination of genetic predisposition [stress factors in the carrying mother, etcetera.], psychological modification of that predisposition [it was either frued or jung, that beleived that all people were inherently bisexual], finally topped off by a heaping helping of self-conditioning by preferential experiences. [why most people usually experiment at least a little first before becoming bisexual or gay.]

a furry fan is someone who is intruiged by the art.

a furry artist is someone who makes the art.

a furry "lifestyler" (much older than the first two), is a person who beleives they are intrinsically connected to an animal. *totems, xeno-reinarnation, spiritualism, etcetera*

Karotanta: Felinoid, much like a leopard, but with a striped pattern, bipedal, tribal civilization, strong emotional ties between individuals. Passive-Aggressive (they don't strike first, only in defense), living in natural shelters, or reverant constructions (caves, wooden lodges, caves) rather than structures which would violate the spirits of the area they reside within. Weapons and armor of the middle bronze period veriaty, and strong innate empathic abilities, coupled with very weak psychic abilities. [communistic]

Kobatien: Canids, society in the vein of the celts, living in stone buildins and using weapons of the late bronze, or early iron age. warlike, but generally honorable and considerate. no empathic or telepathic abilities, although they do have spiritual leaders skilled in occult practices. [pack mentality]

Sscharah: Reptilians, brutal and warlike; despite their brutal nature, they are not stupid. They are ancestor worshipers, as well as strong tacticians and soldiers. [war-tribe]

Raseriate: Creatures resembling a cross of rodent and mustilide, they are small, fast, and unsually cunning, they can form minor bands for defense and sometimes expansion, for the most part the stick to persuits such as trade or diplomacy. [republican]

Laparas: Lagomorphic, the are primarily a desert faring people. Their society is at its root a wandering association of hunter tribes. Originally separate, the tribes banded together in an effort to defend themselves from those that would harm them, as well as increase the efficiency of the hunt. They are generally, hunters and scouts. [Tribal]

Averas: Avians, they are a loft people, puns aside, they live high in the mountains, working in communes in order to increase the intellectual productivity. They devote the vast bulk of their time to persuits like alchemy and astronomy, and racial mysticism. Though generally peacefull, they make fast, precise warriors, despite their frailty. [Oligarcy]

I listen to a wide veriaty of music, mostly various styles of rock, and some j-rock, anime music. The current song i have stuck in my head is "My Immortal"

I'm so tired of being here,
Suppressed by all my, childish fears;
And if you have to leave,
I wish that you would just leave.
Because your presence lingers here,
And it won't leave me alone.

These wounds won't seem to heal,
This pain is just too real,
There's just too much that time cannot erase.

When you'd cry, I'd wipe away all of your tears,
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears,
And I've held you hand through all of these years,
But you still have... All of me.

You used to captivate me,
By your resonating light;
Now im bound by the life you left behind,
Your face it haunts, my once pleasant dreams;
Your voice it chased away, all the sanity in me.

These wounds won't seem to heal,
This pain is just to real,
There's just too much that time cannot erase,

When you'd cry, I'd wipe away all of your tears,
when you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears;
And I've held you hand through all of these years,
But you still have... All of me.

I've tried to tell so hard to tell myself that your gone,
But though your still with me,
I've been alone all along...

I might be wrong, but when i played through that part of A3 *and i mean all the way through it*, I got the idea that the Trogs weren't really nearly as advanced as they would like to have been... with all the talk about "waking up and just knowing how to do what they needed" and "the glowing ones told us of our great, lost civilization"; I though that the vahnatai simply too normal trogs, augumented them and lied to them so that they would raise hell on the surface world.

I have an intriguing question for my fellow Spidweb users in General

I'm Bisexual, Probably at least slightly Bipolar, polyamourous, and furry.

I've come to the conclusion that who you are attracted too is usually less physical and more emotional/mental. (Though its quite possible for someone to like traits in people that are "generally masculine", or "generally feminine".) My creed is this, If you love someone show this fact, male or female; and if those you love feel for others, don't suppress their right to feel such things. Sex is, to me, of very little importance or consequence.

As for prejudice… I feel the human race as whole could use a lot less of it... but then again there is only so much you can "reasonably expect" from a species that rose by bashing each other and everything around them into submission using crude wooden and stone clubs.

I’m a feline, and often times act like one, (well as much as you would expect an evolved specimen to act) although I “wear a human skin.”

On a pseudo-related side note, I and those like myself tend to be very emotional creatures. In touch with our and other’s emotions that is. So the type of government I would prefer above all others is a TRUE Social Democracy, (an Empathic Commune if at all possible ^.^ *chuckles*.)

Most of the art I will be replacing are the stat pictures, and character graphics, I might also do some editing of monsters and other sprites (Items, "encounter pictures", etcetera, etcetera.) I'm going to make female and male nephilim/slith character sets as well. (I found it a little unfair that human women got to cavort around and adventure, while the other species apparently seem to lack the fairer sex.) [Lastly; I will not, unlike many artist, slap breasts on lizards to make them female IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Fan Graphical Mods_files/rolleyes.gif) (and by such action ignore all rational thought and scientific fact. *most people should know that only mammals have breasts, hence their more proper term for the breast “mammary"*]
