You're one to talk about coherent philosophy, TM. In any case, serious intellectual study of philosophy is idiocy. The likelihood of developing an idiomatic system to explain human nature is next to nil, in any case; most of the high intellectual philosophies end up being absurdities when looked at in the broad light of day. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Although I'm sure I'd agree, Alec, you're hardly one to talk about lack of substance in scenarios. Which of your scenarios to date haven't been intended as stylistic jaunts? -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

It's not our fault Australia is the second-most boring nation on earth, second to Canada. Many countries have slang terms for their currency. The US has a wide swath, but the UK has 'quid' at the very least. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

quote:The patent Unisys held on LZW expired in June. GIFs are now legally unencumbered; however, they're a relatively poor choice for game graphics. GIF is very dated; it's an 8-bit indexed format ideal only for simple graphics with large blocks of color. JPEG would of course be a terrible choice, being lossy. I use PNG -- more colors, better compression. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

The more the better. All depends on the tradeoff -- how much it costs, etc. I get 5GB/mo. Never gotten close. I will once Pyg's up, though. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Well, true. By the time you get in the endgame, there are four Riders there. But you only get to fight three of them. EDIT: Although it's generally thought that Death, War, Pestilence, and Famine aren't the horsemen. There's the white horseman, who carries a bow and conquers (Conquest); the red horseman, who wields a sword and makes men kill each other (War); the black horseman, holding scales, who causes dearth (Famine); and, of course, the rider of the pale horse, called Death, followed by Hades. The only way I see that the Four Horsemen could include Pestilence is for the white horseman to be Death and the pale horseman to be Pestilence, since thanatos is sometimes, rarely, translated as plague. Hmm. I suppose I could make a quick script to import the tab-delineated data into a SQL database. Send it over to mboeh at desperance dot net and I'll see what I can do with it. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Nethack has the Four Horsemen. Three of them (Famine, Pestilence and Death) are in the endgame, and they all come back to life when you kill them, bastards. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

None, except Britons tend to measure people in feet and pounds (stone, to be more precise). And I think Canada and Mexico still sometimes use a few imperial units for the sake of dealing with the US. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Brett, what format can you get the Alexandria data to me in? It would be useful to have an existing dataset to work on. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Doing it for one would do it for others very easily. If I were hypothetically to make this hypothetical database for Blades, speaking in a purely hypothetical manner, what data do you think would be useful to store? Basically what you have at Alexandria? I've also been thinking that it'd be useful to have a separate table for designers. That way, one would simply have to modify their contact info once and it would change all of their scenario records. What do you think? Er, hypothetically. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |
