Guys, WTH does Data Transfer mean? I know some of you have your own webspace etc, so I'm sure someone will know. What's the difference between datatransfer webspace and normal webspace, and what would you suggest the best Data-Transfer to have would be? - Archmagi Micael -------------------- "You dare Trifle with Exile?" - Erika the Archmage -------------------- My Scenarios: Undead Valley : A small Undead problem, what could possibly go wrong? -------------------- Proof of Richard Black's existance: Richard Black - PROOF of his existance (the Infernal one's website). Webspace is simply the amount of space you actually have to store stuff. Data transfer is the total amount of data users can download in a given time period. For example, if you have 10 MB of webspace and 1 GB data transfer per month, you can store a 10 MB file on your website and up to 100 users can download it per month. Or you could store a 5 MB file and 200 users could download it per month. Or a 1 MB file and 1000 users could download it per month. Of course, in a real situation, different users are likely to request different amounts of data while they're visiting your site. -------------------- My BoE Page Bandwagons are fun! Roots Hunted! Well, I'd guess that by "data transfer" they mean "bandwidth" which is basically the amount of data that you're allowed to, well, transfer back and forth from your account per whatever time period they specify. Uploads and downloads (including visitors viewing your site) all use bandwidth. Usually exceeding this limit will result in either extra charges or blocking access to your site until either you purchase extra bandwidth or the time period expires and your bandwidth limit resets. The more the better. All depends on the tradeoff -- how much it costs, etc. I get 5GB/mo. Never gotten close. I will once Pyg's up, though. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

My hosting costs $30/quarter, or $120/year; I get it privately from a friend of mine. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I get 200mb of disk space and 2.5gb of bandwith for $16.00. Well may I ask what your site is about? If it is a very popular subject you may want more if it is a small personal site then I would suggest a small package. Posts: 484 | Registered: Monday, May 27 2002 07:00 |

750mb space and 15gig transfer...free. Of course, I can never use up that much space or bandwidth. Also, if you're looking at webhosting, you may want to look at some other features as well. For example, will you get any SQL databases or PHP/ASP/CGI scripting? Email accounts, FTP users, addon domains, etc. quote:Depends on whether it's per day or per month. If per month, don't even try to go for 50megs...you'll be down in one or two days at most. 1GB is good for a standard personal site, 2GB for a standard personal forum and site, and 3 gigs if you're expanding into something bigger.
