Brett wrote a trilogy of scenarios, titled "Riddle of the Spheres", "Quest of the Spheres" and "Destiny of the Spheres" (hope I didn't jumble this). I don't know if there is a collective name for this series.

With the tongue firmly in cheek, I might briefly explore the possibility of an allegory to real world politics. Always take into account the views of the author. :P

After all, Avernites could be described as terrorists...

Let me just add this: How on Earth can you give away TWO sanities?

The first possibility is that Saunders cheated and didn't put hers at the door the first time. But that is hardly possible; someone would have noticed.

So what happens when you put your sanity there a second time? Do you achieve some kind of 'hyper'-insanity that is even further removed from sense? Or do you develop a 'meta'-insanity, an 'insanity beyond insanity' that would be indistinguishable from a quasi-lucid state?

Truly, reincarnation is a wondrous issue...

I've thought about it. It makes sense, but I honestly don't think Drakey would do that. In practical terms, he's re-using empty accounts. In official terms, however, he would be confiscating users' accounts and redistributing them to other users, which would strike one as a very unorthodox practice.

Since the original topic largely served its purpose (though I must add that I find the name "Adze-Haakai" wicked cool), I guess we could get off on a tangent and discuss PDNs.

I've changed mine on a regular basis in the last few months, until I started participating in the last RP. When I play an RP, I always change my name to the character's name to avoid confusion.

Alexander probably just wanted the first group to look around and make sure the surface was still inhabited. Of course once you get out in to the sun and meet all the nice tan people there is a lot to do. There is also the possibility they just didn’t want to go back.

I may be over analyzing, but how is it that no one else in the world could solve these problems but our group? The Empire was willing to send thousands of soldiers down to Avernum to avenge their king, but not to protect their surface home. If four or less of us could fix these problems surly 50 of them could have before so much death and destruction resulted.

Ouch. Anaximander. Emperor, not King.

Someone check it, but I'm pretty sure thousands were never sent down to Avernum. The teleporters would not have sufficed for that amount of troops.

Also, the teleporters to Avernum were in the established parts of Ermarian, where a lot of soldiers can be mustered rapidly. Sending these soldiers over the mountain ranges to defend Valorim would have been very tricky. Although they have, in fact, managed to do so: A huge host of Empire soldiers is camping in a small valley southeast of Blackcrag.

Well, the player group are the heros. If heros were as mortal as Non-Playing Characters, this wouldn't be called an RPG, right? :P

Actually, the whole boards were down for a while yesterday (23:00 to midnight GMT, specifically) with the message that Member Number 00000021 was corrupted (you had to be quick because soon afterward the Maintainance Alert was put up). Saunders' demise took the whole forum down with it.

Nonsense. An email is larger than usual if it contains a virus. An email with no other purpose than so-called "phishing" does not commonly contain a virus. Recognizing the "fraud factor" in an email through its size is crap.

I use the "Nigeria" instinct: Every mail concerning my PayPal account is fraud.

Alorael, for me, has four syllables. A - low - ray - el, first and third syllable stressed.

It sounds sort of like the biblical name of an arch-angel, if you can imagine an arch-angel with a sniper rifle.

That often happens after getting some crappy scam mail with a subject similar to "Your PayPal Account has been Suspended" or "Security Measures for your PayPal Account" and giving them your password by logging in on their site.

Yes, a logical paradox left by the switch between Exile and Avernum and the addition of the first party. I suppose you could make up a funky conspiracy theory to fill that plothole...

On the other hand, it does make sense if they really *never* reported back, not even after first reaching the surface. Which, again, would make them rather incompetent operatives. Or could there have been sabotage?

That last 'e' should be an 'a', though, which makes a slight difference.

At least no one has decided to make a parody of it yet named 'Arcan-tater' or something and drawn me as a potato. Poor Darth Vader. :P

OOC:

It's called 'roleplay', or RP for short. Every player creates a character by describing him/her in great detail, in a so-called Character Description or CD (check here for my character description); then we write a story with these characters, with every person controlling the action of his/her character (also called 'Playing Character' or PC).

OOC and IC stand for Out Of Character, In Character respectively. Out of character describes a remark the player makes as a person, outside of the roleplay. In Character defines a body of text that belongs to the story.

The author of this particular roleplay is Mung. I don't know if he still accepts new players, but we're running short right now so I guess he probably will (otherwise we'd have around 3-4 players only).

Edit: Come on Mung, don't pick on him. It's not like we have an additional OOC thread. Non-spammy OOC posting does not harm an RP as much as a lack of communication between players does. :)

Unlike certain more openly malignant computer programs, GC does not interfere with your computer's performance and does not prevent you from removing it. So yes, I'd prefer to play a crappy game for a while rather than lose my leg, which is, all things considered, quite hard to regrow, unlike sanity.

The question remains, however: Would hyenas actually eat a human leg if it is covered with butter?

I do wonder why the first party failed so miserably when the player party is, after all so successful. The only conclusion is that the first party considered of a bunch of lousy imbeciles, which makes one wonder why Unspec. Services chose them.

I've usually said it like "Dshur", like some mix between Joe and sure. How do you pronounce Boeh? Liky bow, or like boy?

And who are you, Thousand?

I've stressed Kelandon on the second syllable since I first saw his name here. Funnily enough, I've always thought of the "l" as a 'voiced' l (formed with your tongue just behind the front teeth rather than at the back of the mouth).

OOC: Sorry, RL hasn't been too kind lately, so I couldn't post before. Here goes.

IC:

As the spiders closed in, a bowstring suddenly twanged. Once, twice. Another three times. Three spiders fell to the ground twitching; a fourth hissed in fury or pain as an arrow narrowly grazed its body.

Three out of five. Not bad for a beginner.

Beginner? The truth was that Mycroft had held a bow exactly twice before in his life, both times for practice. Luck was on his side apparently, for the spiders had been decimated by fully a third of their number.

He had planned to remain concealed for a while longer, watching the other two members of what was, supposedly, his party - they had left very early today and apparently not bothered to wake him - but this spider ambush demanded his immediate reaction.

It seemed his concealment had paid off however. The spiders, surprised by the sudden onslaught, were slightly disoriented for a few moments. As the other two charged forward to finish the battle, Mycroft briefly hesitated, considering another volley of arrows, but decided against it; he wasn't going to get this lucky again. Instead, he also hefted his short sword and followed the charge.

OOC: Writing seems to be a little on the rusty side...

You must have been here long indeed, if even, say, Alec and Thuryl, two of the oldest members, are still here and don't find it boring enough to leave as far as I can tell...

Well, okay, they're also on Desp. And on Polaris.

But why go founding a new empty board if you're bored here? Is it just your wish to lord it over a forum as an admin?
