My first order took around forty minutes to process, from the time I sent the email asking what discounts apply (and how they accumulate), to the time I entered the code into the game. :)

I have gone against my principles today and given a newbie 14 coals for free, and then leading the same newbie to the mind temple. In my defense, she (or he, you can never tell, after all) didn't make a single spelling mistake and also never said 'lol'. I feel immediate kinship with people who do not rape the English language.

Also, the biggest reason is probably that I didn't think of it at the time.

Also, there is a non-negligible chance that their contact will be a) butt-ugly or b) not of the gender they claim or c) ten-fifteen years off their claimed age in either direction. Or, given this is Runescape we're talking about, d) dumb as a rock.

No, that tells you something! It tells you that they prefer nasals and liquids to vowels. It is possible to have a language that has few or no vowels if it allows nasals and liquids to take a full stress (whereas English only allows them to sit in unstressed positions, as in "apple" — properly /?p-l/ with no vowel in the second syllable, although some insert a schwa for ease of pronunciation).

It also tells you that their language draws out its R's in sort of the way the sliths draw out their S's, which is worth considering for paradigms. Nephils might make a distinction between many kinds of R's, from the approximant to the trill to the tap (and Wikipedia's IPA page might be worth checking if you're not already an expert on phonology).

You can get all sorts of ideas from the names. Don't ignore them!

Now that's something I neglected. But, again, it can be explained by the older language having vowels, and the modernized one dropping them. ;)

In that case Well of Souls, from http://www.synthetic-reality.com , isn't a mmorpg, since you get to host your own server. The server does get listed in a centralized master server, of course, which might disqualify it. Although it includes a scenario editor like thingie that is quite flexible (and extremely complex to handle).

I find the @ character far more appealing than the walking pixels. When you can't manage complexity, it's a good idea to go for simplicity.

And now, as promised, the stats. These stats are for every month since the database was started, but the age is always calculated relative to "now". The difference is only due to people changing/displaying/deleting their birthdates or new members joining.

In August 2005:

867 listed their age.
The age range is from 2.81 - 103.09 years
The average is 24.22 years
The standard deviation is 10.82 years.

September 2005:

Count: 895
Range: 2.81-103.09 years
Average: 24.28 years
Deviation: 10.84

October 2005:

Count: 908
Range: "
Average: 24.21 years
Deviation: 10.81 years

November 2005:

Count: 925
Range: "
Average: 24.24 years
Deviation: 11.07 years

December 2005:

((I started to post this, but then realized I royally messed up the data last month by somehow failing to take into account birthdays before 1970, ie with timestamps<0. So I couldn't.))

I thought about starting a new poll to get some sort of average age for this board, but then I remembered that the birthdays are saved in the member database as well, so I decided to make a few stats from that and post them. And then I realized that only about 880 members even have a birthday set, and these people might not even be the same ones as the ones who regularly post here.

So there is still a poll, grouped into as sensible a scale as I could come up with, and then I'm going to post the stats that I got from the database.

Here's how it works: There are 7 questions, one for each age range. Your age is going to be in one of the questions; so put in your age in that question and answer the others with "younger than" /"older than". That was the way to get the greatest age range without messing up the poll.

And please don't try to be clever and put in contradictory responses such as "younger than 20", "older than 50", etc.

Also, to keep the sample accurate, if you clicked "Don't wish to answer" in the first one, answer all the others with "younger than". It seems as if that would distort the result, but in fact it's easy to subtract these afterwards.

Are you talking about Exile? Because in Avernum, I seem to remember it really was just a single level that kept spiralling down.

But that was back when they had height. :(

(Or does A4 have height? It seemed like it wouldn't...)

For some reason I remember it as "ghash", but I might have that mixed up with the weird Orcish word for "fire" from LotR.

Also, the novel is here, and from chapter six on there are some references to the Nephilim language every now and then. As I said, I can't be bothered to compile it now.

I made up some vague stuff back in November for my Nanowrimo thing, because there didn't exist any basis for the language. As opposed to Vahnatai (and possibly even Slithzerikai), there don't appear to be any occurences of Nephilim language, inscriptions or anything. When they speak, the game just describes it as growling.

I'd summarize it into a short vocabulary (a dozen or so words and some pronounciation guidelines), but I don't have the time now and it doesn't have any basis anyway. It is supposed to be an "ancient" language much like Kel's is an ancient Slith language, so the current one might be completely different (and therefore free for you to develop).

The longest sentence of any kind is:

quote:
"Rephna sathosha nish, yapheshis ramh'
Barh amh'rosh serina avalash-amh'

Sevario is one hell of a typo... :P
