There is a dropdown menu for selecting the month.

Oh, and the reason my title change is the only one displayed is that my entry is the only one that got updated since the title change, as a test. Once the actual update comes around in two weeks, the others will be there as well.

Edit:

quote:
put in the title changes by hand
I am not sure if I should be flattered by your high estimate of my willingness to sacrifice the time of my life for the Spiderweb community, or offended by the low estimate of my intelligence. :P

There is nothing manual about the update apart from what I enter in this admin panel.

Thanks Lady Davida, yeah I was somewhat wondering where Polaris is now that I'm somewhat back. Yet I haven't had time for forums for a long time. I'll check in there anyways.

Wow, you've been gone so long you don't remember him as Sir David anymore? o_o

I'm not proud of it, honest.

I want Firefox, sure enough, but have not the space/time/motivation to do it.

One day, I promise.

Or maybe if I get a laptop....*shrug*

What are you talking about? You download it and use it. It takes 10 minutes max.

Indeed. It's not like you're switching to Linux or anything.

Now that is something I've put off for the last couple of months due to lack of time and motivation...

Indeed it would.

It should also come with support for a Dance Dance Revolution pad.

I get it. Well at least I think so. MC What!!

"E equals MC WHAT?"

Sounds like famous last words of a nuclear physicist to me...

insert into karma_votes (rater, rated_member, score) values (75, 5491, 1) Anyway, I have 80 votes, most of which are 1 star. But anyway, it's probably pretty safe to assume that anyone that would otherwise rate me now has already done so.

Don't tell me you've managed to hack ironycentral's database server. :P

Many people check these boards more frequently than their email (I certainly do).

Or do you have some kind of wireless emergency communicator that beeps whenever someone sends an alert? :P

Edit: That, and sending a mod alert doesn't increase your post count.

For a brief time in August 2001, I contemplated making a LotR-based BoE scenario. I got as far as about 20 pages of handwritten notes before I realized this would suck horrendously.

...

I think I can still find the notes if I look for them. Anyone interested? :P

Ah well, at least that Alice quote is gone. I suppose this is the best I can hope for, even if I don't get the context of this one.

Some people get cool titles. Like "E equals MC what?" I, on the other hand...

But enough of that.

Spamming on what can generally be considered geek territory is risky. Now, Spiderweb isn't all that filled with tech-savvy evil geniuses, but if he spams on many other boards, he should watch out.

Fortunately for him, the worst he can expect to come from this particular thread is a lock and a ban.

In conclusion:

I may adapt the endeavor script next month to include the number of votes people have. That'd be a one-time feature though - I don't want karma-spotting to become a habit. It also would only count votes, not the actual karma itself...

However, back in 2004, Djur had a prototype (I think it was a prototype, seeing as he never actually publicized anything) he called "the benalizer":

RealArancaytar: huh? Is that a browser malfunction?
RealArancaytar: I see his post on that thread, though.
RealArancaytar: Ben's, that is.
mboehx: No, it's something I call the Benalizer.
mboehx: It locally erases all of his posts so I don't have to read them.

*outdated link, try this
I thought about developing such a tool myself. This would be a fairly simple extension for Firefox (in fact, it exists for phpBB already) or an easily made Greasemonkey script. Unfortunately, I lack the skill and time for either, so I have never followed up on the idea.

No. If it's not installed, selecting it will do nothing. The character encoding just specifies the way Firefox tells Windows how to display the page. If Windows doesn't have Asian characters, it can't display them.

From the last time I installed XP, I dimly remember being able to choose certain components, these including the extended language sets, which I enabled. I might be wrong.

Possibly you needed to have selected an "Advanced" or "Custom" option in the setup to get that choice. Incidentally, if you have any idea of how installing a program works, choosing that option is a good idea, as a rule. Trusting the one who made the installer to know exactly what you need isn't always reliable.

Spiderweb karma is changed only through rebirth.

Creating a new account, that is.

I have made some very regrettable ratings, both ways. Back in the day I was pretty quick with that button. Sorry David. Sorry Alec. Sorry XYZ. Sorry Frozen feet, as well.

Edit: Come to think of it, there aren't any high ratings I particularly regret (although some make me wonder "who the hell is this, and why did I rate them at all?"). Of course, if there were, I wouldn't say. I'm tactful like that.

This event, incidentally, brought about the Big Bang. Only that it retro-actively occurred several billion years previously. In this way, the scientists and fundamentalists are both right - the world came into being both several millennia and several billion years ago.

Unless Alorael celebrates more than one birthday a year, no it was not.

"Born yesterday", iirc, is an expression indicating ineptitude, possibly ranging from simple lack of experience to utter idiocy. Noobishness, in other words. The online equivalent could be "Joined yesterday".

"Do I look like I was born yesterday?" is an angry retort uttered in response to what is very obviously a scam or a bad deal.

What the hell is Senor Parapluie? I've heard that name before.

For some reason I unconsciously think it has something to do with Saunders, but that goes for most memes that stem from the Spiderweb chats. :P

I have kept logs of all chats since I started using Trillian back in September 2003 or so...
