I'm following Gone's example a while back and leaving these boards because of the constant spamming and flame wars. I haven't been here long, but I have lots of experience with Spidweb games. I am extremely disappointed in most of the people here. For example, in the topic that asks people where they got ttheir names, first Alec (perhaps even quite innocently) challenges Smiler over the spelling of the last name and then everyone else burns Alec. Noobs are harrassed for asking inexperienced questions and people keep on double posting and spamming. Many topics start out fun and/or helpful but end up as unrelated ramblings. I'll miss some members of these boards, especially Party Animal (I'll see you around though, man), Alorael, X, Sir Motrax, and Rache (love your walkthrough), but I can't take these boards anymore. I may come back sometime, but I can't see that right now. My sympathies and support to the kinder members of these boards. It's just a few extreme people and some general tensions that have driven me off. Happy posting.

I actually just wanted to tell everyone that Jeff thinks it isn't worth it to make a sequel to Nethergate; it wasn't very popular.

If I had to die, I would'nt care how I died as long as it was good for something. Like if I died protecting somebody, or my death made people aware of a crime, or I became a martyr in the cause of the Avernum series - just kidding.

Best character death - Limoncelli - just amazingly original and still believable.

Monster Customization Question in Blades of Avernum

One good thing would probably be monsters having certain weaknesses based on surroundings, not positioning. For example, temperature could be added into the surroundings and sliths and lizards and fire monsters would get slowed and weakened in cold climates, while they get hasted and strengthened in warm places. Also, it would be cool if mages could draw power from their surroundings or be strengthened by them. For example, mages might get a bonues to their spells during daytime or nighttime, or some might be able to draw more strength from natural settings, or from caves, etc. It would also be cool if mages could reinforce each other, maybe share magical energy or csat a spell together to make it stronger.

Thank God for that. There was already the fiasco with the hacker and the mailing list. It would be terrible for Jeff and his family if thye also found out someone was selling his games without permission.

Welcome to Spidweb. Important things - get to know Alorael, X, and Rache. Rache has the best walkthrough on the web for Spiderweb games and Alorael and X are two of the most knowledgeable board members (there are others who know a lot too). Eventually, you'll figure out what everyone's style is. Beware of Scorp. (JK Scorp, you're cool). And ignore the occasional insanity from us here. Reason no for backwards typing like.

Something along the lines of the soundtrack in Lord of the Rings, the first movie. The music you hear while the Orcs are hammering swords in Orthanc is just amazing. The theme played with the black riders is cool too. And the song Argonath, played when the company rows past the giant statues is very impressive and mysterious. Classic epic music though, has to be the Jurassic Park theme. Is this the kind of reply you wanted?

Four people are in an airplane; Bill Gates, the Dahli Llama, a hippy, and the pope. The pilot rushes out and screams "The plane is on fire and crashing! We only have four parachutes! Fortunately, I have one of them." He jumps out. The pope says "The world needs religious leaders like me!" and jumps out. Gates follows, saying "The world also needs smart men like me!" The Dahlia Llama says to the hippy "I've had a fulfilling life; take the last parachute." The hippy says "Not to worry, pops. There are 2 chutes left. The world's smartest man just jumped out wearing my backpack."

And my favorite of all time:

Bill Clinton, George Bush, a spectacular looking blonde, and a frightfully awful looking fat lady were in a train carriage. After several minutes of the trip, the train passes through a dark tunnel, and the unmistakable sound of a slap is heard.

When they leave the tunnel, Clinton has a big red slap mark on his cheek.

The blonde thought, 'that rascal Clinton wanted to touch me and by mistake he must have put his hand on the fat lady, who in turn must have slapped his face.'

The fat lady thought, 'that dirty old Bill Clinton laid his hands on the blonde and she smacked him.'

Bill Clinton thought, 'George put his hand on that blonde and by mistake she slapped me.'

George Bush thought, 'I hope there's another tunnel soon so I can smack Clinton again.'

My name is a little stranger. There's a series of books I really like (by Mercedes Lackey if anyone knows her) where a group of people, the Hawkbrothers (so named because of their intelligent hawk familiars) take usenames of two words that reflect their personality or a major event in their lives. Darkwind comes from my fascination with one of the main characters in a book. He is a powerful mage and fair fighter, and reflects some of my personality traits. The name does not imply darkness though, I'm not a demon. It was a usename that stuck with him. K'Sheyna is a tribal name.

The ending of Nethergate does not preclude playing as fairies. They all went back in time through the Nether Gate, so now they need to establish themselves in this place. Remember that the Romans disrupted the Gate to some extent, so the fairies were not sent to the place they had prepared for themselves. They would have to set up their culture anew. Perhaps you could play as a mix of fairy creatures. For example, your mission is to unite fairies in the new world and find a home for each of the major fairy types. Your party would include one fairy man or woman, one formorian, one GIFT (maybe a friendly areana so it can cast spells), and one witch. All of these would have to explore the world together and find places where each group could settle, which is why you would need an envoy from each race as a party member. The dangers in exploring a new world should be obvious. Maybe you could even hire on a local intelligent creature or take a local familiar for the witch so you can know the new world's dangers. Could someone who knows Jeff better than I do please email him a copy of this post? If it is used, I am not interested in being recognized for this idea. I just want to get another great Spiderweb game out.

Heeeere goblet, goblet(please read) in Nethergate

I'll assume you're playing as the Romans; the Celts have no reason to search for the goblet. In the southern end of the trees by the shrine, there is a stairway leading down. Look around, there's a button hidden behind a few wine casks or sacks somewhere; press it. Then go to the southeastern end of the dungeon where you will find a library. Pressing the button should have moved a bookcase to the side to let you get into the deeper part of the library. Walk around until you find a portal; it will teleport you to a place with several ledges; fight your way to the top and you find the goblet. Tell me if this is unclear or wrong, I haven't had to search for the goblet for a while.

I'm really sorry that these boards have offended you away. Farewell, and good luck. And Brenitt-Ihrno, that was a bit mean in my opinion. Ikari was sad about the insults on the boards, and you compare his post to a suicide note. I must admit, I agree with Ikari to some extent.

Selkie pelts in Nethergate

I think he doesn't want to know where to get the Chief's skin, but where to get the skins the Chief wanted back from the witches. In that case, go down the stairs at the bottom of the tower (south). Jump down the ledge and go to the right (east). I'm not exactly sure where, but there's a secret passage somewhere in the southeast quarter of the map. After you go through it, you'll be in a cave with a bunch of boulders and three ghosts. Kill the ghosts and push the boulders arounds so you can leave to the northeast. Got through the door in the south wall, fight the ghost, and solve the puzzle of the braziers. I you want the solution, I'll put it at the bottom as a spoiler. Anyways, in the next room you are teleported to a ledge with four boxes and the pelts are in one. To get out, jump down or walk around the ledge, fight some rats, and then wander towards the northeast till you hit places you've already been. To get out again, you'll have to pull a lever in a room off of a hallway where the ogres are.

SPOILER!!!

To solve the puzzle, you need to light all four braziers by stepping on maps. First open the door at the south, then step on the mats in this order. Top, left, right, bottom. All braziers should now be lit and the gate will open when you step on the middle tile.

»What is your name? That's a very personal question. I don't think I know anyone here well enough to talk about that.
»What is your quest? To become archmage of this part of the universe. I think I'm pretty close.
»What is your favorite color/colour? Reddish greenish bluish yellowish black.
»What is your job (If you are unemployed, what prevents you from having more free time)? All those pesky demons from the 17th Abyssal Plane of Existince.
»What are some books you like? Anything by Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, or Terry Brooks
»What are some movies/TV shows you like? Simpsons. Only Simpsons.
»What are some computer/console games you like? PC. I think it's trying to communicate with me.
»What are some bands you like? Five Iron Frenzy, Supertones, POD.
»What are some musical pieces you like? Alternative Christian, Bohemian Rhapsody.
»Who are some of your favorite members on these boards? Alorael, Party Animal, and MYSELF!!!
»What do you think various members look like? This entity does not comprehend the concept of "look like".
»What do you look like? "Look like" does not compute.
»What did you have for lunch last Tuesday? Oh, the usual. A bit of plastic with a side of metal shavings. Enough ketchup and it all tastes the same.
»What is your age? Ouch. It's so difficult to think in only 4 dimensions. 15 might be right. Or maybe 15000, who knows?
»What is your species? I used to think I was human. But then reality kicked in and I started evolving into my destiny of pure magery.
»What plane are you from? 18th. It's a very nice place if you don't mind 50 odd dimensions.
»Are you male, female, or "other." Male. A straight answer. Did I shock anyone?
»How many holes do you prefer in the ceiling? I don't prefer any, but when I'm practicing magic, I usually blow a few good-sized ones through the ceiling and a couple of little ones through the wall. Oh well. Fixable.
»When did you last brush your teeth? By your concept of time, 12 hours. By mine, it's flexible.
»Do you feed lemons to your pet alligator? I used to, but when I summoned the pet Haikaiis, I think a stray magic ray turned it into a basilik, and it spit the lemons out again.
»To whom are all your base belong? This seems like another very personal question. I'm not ready to share this.
»What region of the universe are you posting from? 45A0-JF13-583R-58JJ-5H2M. Give or take a foot.
»What does (§³·ß)Ð/µª=ƒ mean? You've broken my code! I'll have to watch you pretty carefully now.
»What is the appropriate usage of the word "EVOL"? I must admit that's a bit beyond me. I could do a summoning and ask one of the air elementals for a hint, though.
»Did I forget anything? Nothing that could be comprehended in 4 dimensions anyways.

Does anybody use the berzerk skill? in Nethergate
Warrior

The aggravating part about nethergate is that slings and even javelins never seems to do much damage no matter how much skill I pump into them. Killing from afar sounds easier than it is. Also, some of the distance spells cost quite a bit, and sometimes you end up drained from blasting goblins when you meet a tougher enemy.
