I think you mean PDF. :) And they're also in Word format, at least in the Windows download. Regardless, you can use the text selection tool in Acrobat Reader to copy and paste it into whatever program you choose.

Why make a new BoE scenario? You might as well ask why write a new book, or paint a new picture - after all, there are already thousands of books and pictures out there.

Besides, why not? :P

You wouldn't want to accept cash? Wow. I mean, morals, okay, but turning down money? You be insane! ;)

I would take an educated guess that edits are edits are edits, regardless of where the originals came from.

Erika isn't in Blades of Avernum. Unless, of course, somebody makes a scenario with her in. But that's been done before, for Blades of Exile, and people hated it. :P

Look for a circle of four tall standing stones, and walk into the middle of them. There's a depression in the terrain there too, if I remember correctly.

The edit button is your friend. :)

From memory, the word is in your quest journal. You can get to the quest journal by going to any character's info page (by clicking the - surprise! - Info (or Train) button next to their portrait), and then clicking on Quest Journal in the lower-right corner. (It's "quark", in case you're too lazy to look it up.)

As for your second question, you only need one of those stones.

Edit: There's a free walkthrough for VoDT that comes with the game, by the way. Check the "Blades of Avernum Instructions" PDF. If you're on Windows, it's in the start menu folder for Blades of Avernum.

DWtD: Schmid in outdoor section 0,2 (which I think puts it in the center of the northern region somewhere, but don't quote me on that).

Outdoors sections are numbered X coord, then Y coord, like you'd expect. So 0,2 would be in the west-most row of outdoor sections, in the third section down. So definitely somewhere in the far west region, and probably southwest-ish; I'm not sure how many outdoor sections DwtD has, so I couldn't say for sure.

Calls that we wish existed (part two) in Blades of Avernum Editor

This isn't a call, and I think somebody already requested this, but...

I'd really really really like to see item descriptions. We already have string properties for objects of all kinds - why not descriptions? There's even a spot for them on the item info dialog already; just have them replace the "This is an Object. It weighs 5 pounds." message, if they're set. And maybe have one description string for identified and one for non-identified.

The underlying framework is already there. It just requires a few small changes and additions here and there, and I for one would LOVE to be able to set item descriptions. And I'm sure every other scenario designer out there would as well.

Please, Jeff? Pretty please? :)

Could you do it manually? As in: Find the charater in the party with the highest Tool Use skill, and get the highest quality lockpick they have. Then test the strength of the lock against that character's Tool Use skill plus the Tool Use bonus of the lockpick. It's hacky and annoying, but it could work... right? :)

Is it just me, or is magic pathetically weak in this game? in Blades of Avernum

I use my priest constantly. Without her, my fighters would die in about two turns in some fights. Occasionally I even have to haste her so she can heal AND bless every turn. Or so she could heal both fighters at once, before I got Mass Healing. Or in case there are undead around, so she can cast Repel Spirit and heal at the same time. Or so she can help my mage out with the damage-dealing spells. (Divine Fire can be verrry useful, especially when the only fire spell your mage has is fire bolt. The energy cost is harsh, but that's why you get alchemy.) Or... you get the picture. :D Oh, and I always carry around a stack of energy elixirs and potions so that I can keep up my constant healing and barrages of offensive spells.

So, uh... yeah. Priests, underpowered?! :)

You haven't actually set the variable "choice" to anything. You have to explicitly assign it to run_dialog(), like this:

choice=run_dialog(1)

There is a program that can patch Windows exes. Deus Ex: Invisible War uses it. *goes and checks* Here we go. It's called RTPatch (http://www.pocketsoft.com/). I can't find a price listing, though; I'm guessing you're supposed to contact them for a quote.

Ideas for security mechanisms. in Blades of Avernum Editor

If anyone's played Half-Life, there's a bit in the introduction (the first chapter, before the disaster) where you're getting let into the experiment chamber thingy, and two scientists have to do retinal scans at the same time at opposite ends of the room to let you through. You could do a similar thing with keys or keycards; so to get through, you'd not only need the key/keycard, but you'd need to enlist the help of an NPC or glue the keycard into the slot. :D

Or if the player is smart and has more than one PC, they could just go into combat mode and give each keycard to a different PC... :)

Yeah, that's probably it.

Khoth is right about the speed difference, though; you really don't notice any slowness at all unless you're doing lots of number-crunching, which the editor doesn't need to do.

Besides, a lot of the clunkiness I've noticed in the BOA editor has more to do with the interface and the fact that it has a slight delay every time it plays a sound (from clicking buttons and stuff) than actual execution speed.

Yeah, it would be a pretty major project, but I can dream can't I? :D And in the meantime, I could make a script editor or something... hey, that's actually a pretty good idea. Now to learn wxPython, properly this time!
