Oh man. That's great. Nice discovery.

Do you know if that works on all versions?

Good, now you understand how people feel when you use the time of everyone reading a thread to ask a question that you could have answered yourself with a ten second web search.

I know what the words mean. My point is, if you think that there MAY be heaven and hell, then it is also true that you don't know whether or not they exist. And if you don't know, then you are acknowledging that they may or may not. If one is true, the other is also true.

I think these so-called "reformists" have been spending a little too much time around surface cows.

Is that *really* the consensus? I've seen the definitions elaborated quite differently by different oldbies. Although this isn't nearly as bad as asking them, say, what the geography of Ermarian looks like, there still seems to be some disagreement. And that's just among the oldbies. I don't buy it, individual whose member number is bigger than mine :P

More to the point, the newbie/oldbie distinction is not dichotomous.

Oldbie is based mainly on time spent in the community. (Actively participating. The fact that I surfed various blades sites in 1998 or opened an account on this forum in 2001 doesn't make me an oldbie, it just makes me old.)

Newbie, on the other hand, is based mainly on character. Argh kept that title for months and months, whereas Delicious Vlish never really acted like one.

There are a great many people here who are neither oldbies nor newbies, but are somewhere in the middle. I'm sure some of the oldbies will argue with me on this one, because they have this bizarre cosmology where you have to be one or the other. However, that's simply not how the terms are actually used. (Oh look. I've managed to involve descriptivism in yet another thread. )

Fee fi fo fum, I smell the blood of -- a troll.

The only other google result for "Valish language" is this one, a fantasy language which, if it has actually been conlanged at all, has not been published on the web.

You are the weakest link. Goodbye!

Slartucker: tyran, you're approaching "get a hooker" level
Ash Lael: It's not that great. Gets really old really quickly.
Ash Lael: Even if it is good for a laugh the first few times.

Slartucker: why are you talking about kel's penis?

I thought about incorporating a name with a space. Unfortunately, that would require removing multiple people from my conglomeration, as I am already at the UBB PDN character limit.

Don't worry, this one won't last forever. But I am more amused than anything else at its interaction with UBB layout.

What Kelandon said.

Also, let me point out that Valish is not actually a language in any stretch of the imagination. It is an alternative orthography for English.

Thanks for the link, PoD. That was a great article, very thought-provoking. And it actually managed to make me feel momentarily proud of the University of Chicago, which is pretty rare for me, heh.

Playing out of character is already an issue. If you party is all sliths or all nephils, there are frequent situations where the dialog makes no sense and you just have to pretend you're humans. There are workarounds, as (exhaustively) demonstrated in Kel's scenario Bahssikava, but I'm not sure the effort would be worth it, for a full-sized game that focuses on humans.

Troglos, I think, could actually work; they can communicate with humans, they are the same size, have similar bodily needs, and are of comparable capabilities. But they wouldn't add anything to the game, and it would be odd.

I am tempted to argue that the reason so few people have talked about beating the Exile trilogy, is because the people who prefer Exile are smarter, and therefore are less likely to respond to every single thread with some random piece of information about themselves that no one else cares about. ^_^
