Look here.

Alorael, in his final post, have a custom title... But, when I saw his profile, I still see Blademaster, why? An UBB quirk, maybe?

And a question: why he don't have one? I remeber that Drakefyre never allowed giving a custom title to him, right?

Moderators have Blademaster title only on boards they moderate and in their profile. Since Alorael doesn't moderate tech support, he has a regular post-based title there. "Frolicking in Postland" is a regular post-based title for having over 10,000 posts. (Used to be 5,000 until *i changed the title structure.)

Custom titles take presedence over anything else, so since most mods have custom titles, Alo and Seletine are the only mods who have regular titles on boards they don't moderate.

I do, however, have the privilege of having had the same regular title twice, and it's a title that only one other person has had.

You have been here less than a year...

More importantly, you're Marlenny's dog, remember? She can call you whatever she wants. ;)

Dude, I'm a newbie, and I've been here for precisely three years (minus three days). :P

I also realized it had to be a mistake as soon as I saw the thread.

It's a bit like a topic titled "RiB is out!"

I think there was a topic "RiB is out!" at some point. :)

It turned out that it was April Fools joke.

I knew this sounded too good to be true, but it is a little more believable than "RIB is out!".

Oh, yes, you're right! Woof! :D

Apologize for the mistake.

If you have to ask, you'll never know. Getting personally insulted by certain Spidwebbers before you've even arrived in a topic is a good sign.

—Alorael, who always hopes that one day he'll find himself insulted by people he doesn't know on a board on which he's never posted.

WKS: That's a good question. It is a bad question to ask, however, within earshot of someone who can give you a custom title. :P

Magma, as I said, I've been here three years. I don't feel any less new.

This board isn't that old. I mean, that makes Spidweb a newbie, doesn't it?

You have been here so long you should know that this isn't the first incarnation of the official SW forum, and not by a long shot the first community Blades fans have ever had. It goes back to the mid-nineties for some - compared to that, my three years look quite pitiful.

You are an oldbie if you can tell people around you "back in my days..." without one of them saying "well, back in my days..."

So you are an oldbie when talking to people who registered last week, unless Kel is around. If he is, he becomes an oldbie unless Aran is around. If he is, he becomes an oldbie unless Alorael is around. If he is, he becomes an oldbie unless ...

There was Spiderweb community on various mailing lists and message boards long before this board was created.

More to the point, the newbie/oldbie distinction is not dichotomous.

Oldbie is based mainly on time spent in the community. (Actively participating. The fact that I surfed various blades sites in 1998 or opened an account on this forum in 2001 doesn't make me an oldbie, it just makes me old.)

Newbie, on the other hand, is based mainly on character. Argh kept that title for months and months, whereas Delicious Vlish never really acted like one.

There are a great many people here who are neither oldbies nor newbies, but are somewhere in the middle. I'm sure some of the oldbies will argue with me on this one, because they have this bizarre cosmology where you have to be one or the other. However, that's simply not how the terms are actually used. (Oh look. I've managed to involve descriptivism in yet another thread. )

The consensus here, though not elsewhere, is that Argh and company are noobs. Those who are recent arrivals, as determined by arbitrary criteria, are newbies. Oldbies are, generally speaking, the one affecting a supercilious attitude towards newbies.

—Alorael, who would like to request that you refrain from further speaking, individual of short tenure within these environs. Prescriptivism is for pantywaists.

Is that *really* the consensus? I've seen the definitions elaborated quite differently by different oldbies. Although this isn't nearly as bad as asking them, say, what the geography of Ermarian looks like, there still seems to be some disagreement. And that's just among the oldbies. I don't buy it, individual whose member number is bigger than mine :P

It's really all about the POST COUNT. Look at me, I am a freakin' veteran!

Newbs, if you want to quickly gain status, post out of your minds. No less then 100 posts per day should set you on pace to achieve oldbie status within 2 weeks.

Careful, Mysterious Man. Some of them might actually take you seriously. Although anyone who does will quickly shed newbie status and gain a custom title. Unfortunately, they won't be around to enjoy it.
