You know, "80's RPG" is not really the best epithet for Omega, considering that (1) the vast majority of its development and use took place in the 90's, (2) there were actually two different RPGs called Omega published in the 80's, and (3) it's far less descriptive than even "80's music" which, while poor taxonomically, at least means something to most people.

— Slartucker, who is admittedly also an old game fetishist. Yesterday he spent several hours tinkering with Basilisk ][ in order to get Jewel of Arabia to run on it. He then spent several hours staring at ResCompare until he had extracted weapon damage data and clothing water consumption adjustment data from the game. It was actually quite interesting. ALORAEL, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

While this was very funny, there's one problem. If it's an Angband dungeon and the assassin is actually SILENT, offscreen Ancient Black Dragons are never going to attack him in the first place.

This is a film, not an animator, but The Triplets of Belleville (aka Les Triplettes de Belleville).

Well, he's been writing books for more than three decades now, and he's always loved gratuitously long, rambling, personal introductions and afterwords. 30 or even 20 years ago I'm sure his financial conditions were quite different.

I do think he loves what he does. One of his early books apparently underwent a disastrous transformation at the hands of six different editors before being published; he later had it republished with all of the editors' edits attached as footnotes, along with his own snarky comments directed at the editors. He does collaborations with lesser known authors, spends time researching new settings, etc. He has his own quirks and a lot of really muddy ideas but I very much doubt he's in it for the money.

And the animatOR is of course, Hayao Miyazaki, whose name, in contrast to many animators, is definitely worth mentioning in addition to the studio.

What do you think of Sarkozy, Mars? Sarkozy completely TERRIFIES me, not so much because of his policies as because of the way he treats others. My exposure to French politics is pretty sporadic, so when I heard him using words like "racaille" and "karcheriser" when discussing lower class youth in the Paris riots, it really stuck.

No. As a rule, Americans dislike independence.

I'll second the admonition against Xanth. All of his books have curious sexual elements running through them. So on the one hand you have the Adult Conspiracy, which is kind of funny, but on the other hand you have this really misogynistic element, like the nasty depictions of Chameleon, or Humfrey and his five or six wives (I lost count)... one of the Xanth books is even titled "The Color of Her Panties," though that might be better than his non-Xanth book "If I Pay Thee Not in Gold."

I run a tight ship, and I do it for a living. I believe that allowing people to belittle each other does not contribute to personal freedom, but actually takes away from it.

Normally I would not (edit: left that word out) enforce friendliness here, but given the potential inherent in a thread where you talk about members trying to maim and kill each other, and which declares some members victorious over others, I think it's necessary to force it. The exchanges of flames that have sprung up in less provocative threads recently speak to this, too.

Edit: The editor links used to be in the header directly, which I think makes sense given how often they are asked about.

I, for one, follow through on the expectations I lay out. ET, you are hereby disqualified from the tournament.

If you have anything to say in response, please PM me (or Jewels, if you prefer). But please keep it out of this thread. AND THAT GOES FOR EVERYBODY ELSE AS WELL.

STOP. EVERYBODY STOP.

STOP using the Deathmatch as a platform for making condescending remarks about a member you dislike. A whole load of you have done this. It's disgraceful.

STOP using the Deathmatch as a platform to complain about the forums, ET.

Anybody else who feels the need to bash others in this thread (whether subtly or blatantly), or pollute it with incandescent argument, will be disqualified from the tournament and/or asked not to participate in any further threads, and/or fed to Icshi's needle/ferrets.

Capiche?

Man, that thread brought back memories. I forgot that was what sparked the last set of custom titles.

Things really were more social then. Hmm... *sound of gears turning*
