I believe a some people here had too many of Dolphin's cookies.

Of course I am just talking about effects of eating too much sugar.

EDIT: As for the question about combined admiration and hate, there are pleny of political leaders whose leadership abilities can be admired even if you hate their policies.

That would be an interesting debate to watch, because I am not sure what to think about this issue. I could see it going either way. So you'll have at least one spectator who is ready to be convinced by either side.

Congrats to Aran on his post count and to Dolphin on being the biggest spa... uh, I mean contributing member. :) Also thanks to Thuryl, Ben, SoT, Kel, Spring, TM, AM, Aran and AM for providing me with a lot of posts to read while I am bored at work.

As for my count of 76 posts in 15 days, I really should stop making useless posts in General. Oh, wait I am about to make one more... No! Must... not... press... Add Reply... :)

Romantic subplots are part of standart Hollywood template. Just like having exessively good looking actors in leading roles, even for the characters whose main attribute is supposed to be their ugliness.

Other than that, it's impossible to turn a book that takes 40 hours to read into a movie that takes 9 hours to watch without dropping a lot of details or subplots. Russian War and Peace movie, which I was one of the best movies I ever saw, did a good job of picking some plotlines and staying true to them.

PS Somebody mentioned movie versions of "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The author himself said that the series is so long that movie adaptation would have to be in the form of a TV series and he isn't too hopeful for it. It might be a good series if they ever make it. But knowing Hollywood, Tyrion (an ugly dwarf) will probably be played by a tall and beautiful actor. :)

I just reread that secret in the script files and I have to say "wow!".

It turns out I was wrong about that secret. When I originally played Geneforge, the secret was simply a very nice piece of information. However, rereading it now, after seeing the story of Geneforge 2 and beginning of Geneforge 3, I see a whole new meaning for that text.

Here it is. (*Spoiler Warning!*) http://www.geocities.com/zeviz1/Geneforge_secret.html

I've just e-mailed the files to you.

If anybody else is having same problems, I can e-mail you the files tomorrow. (I am at work now and I wouldn't want to try e-mailing these files over my home's modem connection.)

PS Somebody should probably tell Spidweb that their downloads don't work for some people.

There are two types of book-based movies:

1. The kind that uses book's name only for marketing purposes and has very little connection to the book. Most movies fall into this category. It sounds like the "Troy" movie you are talking about is one of them.

2. Massive epics that faithfully recreate the book. These things tend to be very long and have enormous budgets. Best examples are LotR and Russian version of War and Peace (a 6-hour long movie with a cast of great actors, battle scenes involving thousands of people, very good costumes, etc.) Even these movies can't fully recreate every detail from the books they are based on, but they tend to be pretty close overall.

EDIT: 4 people posted while I was typing this! I didn't realize this topic is so active.

Do you mean the pillars you find in various areas? (Some of the pillars give you an option to touch them. When you do, either nothing happens, or you get a good feeling.)

If these are the pillars you are talking about, they are used for getting into ancient temple. (Look at the "How to get into the temple in Spirit City" topic.)

I lost my registration a few hard drive crashes ago, but I can probably find the info in dialogue scripts. I guess I'll try this when I get home this evening.

It sounds like those "scientists discover faster than light travel" stories a few years ago. In that case the reality was that light was slowed down by making it pass through something so that other things could travel faster.

I guess in this case self-wiring chip probably talked about software, rather than hardware and meant use of neural networks, or some other AI idea. (Technically, you could look at most AI programs as "rewiring themselves".)

**Possible SPOILER Ahead**

If I remember correctly, the basic idea is that there were people on Sulica Island before Shapers got there (like Native Americans) and those people could use magic. These people are responsible for the ruins that you find in various places.

This looks unticlimatic as a one sentence summary, but is a lot more impressive as several screens of information given to you in the game atmosphere as a reward for solving a hard puzzle.

That sounds so cool. I wish I would've been here for that.

Do you mean the flame wars (where anybody who was arguing with one of the Tims would get flamed by several Tims), some people's attempts to see how much they could get away with when using a fake profile, confusion when you couldn't tell who was writing what, arguments about what rules admins were allowed to set, or the fact that half the people did what they were told as a faceless mob of lemmings? :(

PS I probably should stay away from <stike>Misc</strike> General. (That Tim affair and its fallout led to me leaving the boards at that time.)

As for frequent name changes, I find them extremely annoying, but most of the people who change their name too often have a custom title that I use to keep track of them. Failing that, there are always member numbers.

Inferior's statement sounds like it was supposed to be a sarcastic comment on outcome of the trial.

As for the trial itself, all these celebrity trials are just media shows anyway. Figuring out the truth is difficult enough under normal circumstances and with hundreds of reporters camping outside the courtroom it's completely impossible.
