i realize that singleton is currently better then it ever was in exile, but i do feel the games have been leaning away from it. i think part of it is basing some things (whether it is experience, or whatever) on average party level, instead of total party level (or maybe some combination of the two) i realize things will be tougher with a singleton, the main reason i liked it was because i didnt have to deal with 3 (or 5 in exile) other wierdos during combat and such ill prolly give another shot this weekend, after what ive been reading about divinely touched nephils.... generally, ive played all the exile/avernum games with a singleton... i got excited with nethergate, as it seemed there was no upper stat limit (like the max of 20 on the old exile games) so i figured it would be better for a singleton. anyways, ive gotten as far as formello with two different singletons, and it takes a ridiculous amount of reloading, and hoping for lucky random number generations... i dont know if it's intentional or not, but it seems like the avernum series has been leaning away from the whole idea of a singleton party. too bad, cause thats one of the things i really liked about the exile/avernum series, is that it didnt force you into classes, and it let you play with as many people (up to 4 or 6) as you wanted. oh well. guess all good things come to an end... hmm... perhaps. mebbe after this semester is over, ive got an idea for a small scenario, but ill have to figure out how to keep the combat to a minimum, but still have it challenging w/out being overly annoying/tedius. and come to think of it, i dont believe i have used the arena... might have to try that then.... quote:I hate it when players do this.[/b][/QUOTE] meh, forget i said it, what you don't know won't hurt you ;) i guess one of the problems i had with blades of exile was the stat maxes on everything, and eventually scenarios came out that were nigh impossible to handle with a singlton. one of the major points i really liked about the avernum series, not having stat maxes(at least, not any sort of realistic ones...) so with enough boredom and obsession, i can get my singleton powerfull enough to handle any given scenario. and personnally, i dont think cloud of blades is too overpowered, i rarely use it. dunno, bout the only times i can think of using it is when ive got a mess of enemies to fight, and some are invisible, and i cant reach them or something. though, i cant remember the last time i used it. i havnt tried making a scenario yet (got a couple ideas, but they are going to have to wait till the semester's end before i try doing anything with them) and i have no clue on the scripting and such. but would it be possible to do certain things scaled on the partie's level? like have it a set way for up to x level, but beyond that it gets ridiculously hard? personally, i like to play _all_ the scenarios that come out, and i do it all with my singleton. granted, most arent challenging combatwise at this point, but i can still enjoy the story and the puzzles and such. i think that my major complaint about canopy was the way it altered spell levels and such. I thought it was a neat way of doing new things with combat, but not everything reset properly, i ended up using hlpm to buy up some of the spells i had lost running through it (cloud of blades? not sure) Posts: 15 | Registered: Thursday, November 7 2002 08:00 |

eh, im sorta doing this character without 'cheating' (although, i guess thats a realtive term) besides, the only scenario i can gain exp from is the bahsikava one, im a point short of lvl 80, and ran through like 6 scenarios (mostly crescent valley and zkr) and am still a point away:) Posts: 15 | Registered: Thursday, November 7 2002 08:00 |

use move mountains on that stone pillar/boulder in the corner. that's all i do every time i go through zkr. just go into combat mode(singleton) and run through the beams/wait for them to go down. i kinda like zkr though, but i just run through it for the knowledge brews now, and i skip all the extra stuff Posts: 15 | Registered: Thursday, November 7 2002 08:00 |

you can kill vahkos, then return and kill the mayor. just make sure you get all your shopping/side quests and such done before you do this:) kinda leveling the playing field a bit... like working for empire in small rebellion, then killing jaen at the end... not quite a dual weapon, but if i ever get around to doing a small/short scenario(not likely...) i was planning on throwing in a magical main-gauche type weapon, i havnt played with the editor/scenario designer enough to ensure that it would work, but id put it as a shield category, use the steel-dagger graphic(since it looks like a main gauce) give it a pretty small defensive value, and a nice bonus to riposte and parry. not quite the same, but figured it would be worth trying... i love morog's sceptor. good weapon, especially for magic users. and it never runs out of ammo:) if your concerned about the curse, just equip it and then go and get healed by a priest, i can unequip and sell mine(though, to be honest, im not real sure where i got it uncursed...) i found spray acid pretty usefull at low-levels. not so much at higher levels, but i dont find many of the lower-level spells usefull at levels 40-50 i frequently used it to kill monsters that i wasnt ready to handle, by hasting my party, running around(works best inside a fort or something where you can get them to chase you around the walls(like the alien beast in the school of magery) and casting spray acid on the last action point of every move. not something i did frequently, but was an occaisional life-saver Posts: 15 | Registered: Thursday, November 7 2002 08:00 |

i took morog out the first time through, didnt find it too hard, but i had at least two characters with preist skill high enough to use repel spirit- i hightly reccomend this, if you can spare the points for now, give _every_ character level 3(?) priest, and repel spirit(heal is helpful as well...) it will make short work of any undead(or demons at higher levels) i just sat back out of the range of here crystal traps, and zapped her and all the other undeads with repel spirit. about the extra spell, anvil-drop- make it so Xfinally finished his research on his spell (with the help of some adventurers) and just have it a spell that does a big chunk of melee damage, and maybe even places an anvil on the terrain graphics?(instead of the rubble pile or blood spots you get from killing things?) not sure how feasable it is, but it would be kinda cool. Im a little late on this one, but i think it would be great to bring back a anti-magic field spell, or maybe one of the barrier spells(level 1 fire barrier, lev 2 magic barrier, level 3-??) also, i liked most of the special skills, not much i can really think of to add to them-except maybe some way to boost action points, but that has a lot of potential to unbalance things.
