quote:
1)We had to wear uniforms (though every school in Dom. Rep. has to)
I would probably be kicked out of school within the first week in the Dom. Rep. Unless the uniform was blue jeans and a plain t-shirt.

quote:
2)Our skirts couldn't be too short
3)Our heels couldn't be too high
That's just common sense.

quote:
4)Guys HAD to get haircurts, and of course braids weren't allowed to.
That's a bit too restrictive for me.

quote:
5)You couldn't exit the school unless you werent sent home by the nurse (hardly ever happened), or your parents would pick you up (the former would happen more often)
Once again, common sense.

quote:
6)You had to wear the school symbol on your shirt (attached to it)
Isn't that like advertisement?

quote:
7)and of course all of the "the nuns are always right and you're not, respect your elders" rules.
That's just wrong. They tried that **** at my high school, but when a parent showed up at school and proved you right, they tended to drop the subject entirely.

quote:
2)You had to have an ID (though they wouldn't check it at all)
I've been to a school like that, and the ID doubled as my lunch card. It's still sucked, though.

quote:
3)You couldn't wear hair gel
I never wear hair gel, but once again, that's a little restrictive

quote:
4)You had to have the high socks
Once again, too restrictive, I wear high socks, but push them down to my ankles.

Some of those rules are way to restrictive. I do believe God gaves us free will for a reason. Not disrupting the learning process is one thing, but that stuff is going a bit too far.

Personally, I refuse to drink alcohol as well. It's nasty, and negatively affects your thinking. Plus it makes you clumsy.

Joke.

But what personal freedoms would you lose? You could make the cab calling optional. I can see technical problems with the cab calling, but the fingerprint scanning wouldn't be too hard.

They should also automatically call a cab to your location, and have fingerprint scanners on the wheel, so it'd be difficult to steal.

In the Christian faith, once Jesus died on the cross, all previous rules setup by Moses and the Jews became null and void. The 10 commandments are a good guideline on how to act, but unneccessary to get to heaven.

Whether or not you like to drink is your own business. It's your body. However, if you start drinking and driving, it becomes other peoples' business, as you are endangering everyone on or by the road.

These days, it seems everybody is literal-minded. I tend to interpret words using the current meaning, not the past meanings.

Edit: Alorael's post beat mine.
*hands Alorael a Glock to hijack the topic with*

That is confusing, but then again, English is a confusing language. Awesome (some awe) is good while awful (full of awe) is bad. The plural of goose is geese, so shouldn't the plural of moose be meese?

Now, back to all seriousness, I don't see our President being able to do anything to help handle the problem in the g[b]u[b/]lf coast, as we all see how well his Middle-East plans went.

I'm not saying it's wrong, I am saying it's offensive. Alex's religious belief is that homosexuality is inferior to heterosexuality (and strongly discouraged). This is offensive to those on the wrong end of it.

Of course, Alex is entitled to hold his own views and he is equally entitled to express them. However, sometimes one has to be aware that by choosing to express one's view one is going to cause offence.

If I said "parents who buy their kids McHappy meals are either negligent or brain-dead" that would obviously be offensive to some people. That doesn't mean that my viewpoint is wrong.
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

You left out a factor. You have to choose to take offense at the belief of someone, rather than merely, say, consider it unforfunate and worthy of challenge and demonstrative proof that the belief is wrong or hurtful.
Exactly. If Alex believes that homosexuality is inferior, that's his business. What he believes or thinks does not affect you in any way.
