What, demon sex being the best part wasn't a problem, but a convoluted special spell system is? The sad thing is, Aran's right. :( -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! Well, I'm not complaining about the system, even though it is convoluted. As it is, the mess of dialogues and text response queries is a scripting marvel - and if I wanted a simple drag and drop interface, I would be playing Diablo or something. But you realize that TM is going to go nuts when he sees the biblical references (the river, the cross-shaped tombstones, etc.). And I can already see the comments about the "stereotypical role of women" regarding Phaedra. :P There are a couple more glitches with town entrances (you can be sure that if there is a way to get stuck in a wall, I'm going to do it on the first try... ); I'll send them all when I've arrived at Thassaka I guess. Edit: Gremlinicon. Ha. The darn thing is called Exodus. If you're not expecting Biblical references, you're not paying attention. :P By the way, directed at no one in particular, we've been pretty good about keeping spoilers out of this thread. Let's maintain that. EDIT: Expect a new (slightly longer) version tomorr... er... later today. I was trying to be vague, but I guess I'll only mention things in emails from now on. ;) Edit: I'm stuck (refer to the last email). I have no idea how to get past what seems like a technical flaw to me, but what hasn't seemingly hindered anyone else. [ Saturday, July 15, 2006 05:01: Message edited by: Drow ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Something that's bugging me that I don't know how to fix (or if it's even possible) — posted here because anyone with BoA scripting skills can comment: BoA's handling of AP usage with scripted items (with special ability 207 or 219) seems incredibly random. I have a mess of dialogue boxes called from a couple of items, and anywhere in the process, it's possible to cancel these things, but sometimes canceling costs 3 AP and sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out why. I will do exactly the same thing (for testers, I type "cancel" in the text entry box) and get different results — 50% of the time I lose 3 AP, and 50% of the time I don't. Even if I actually go through the whole process and successfully complete the whole script (for testers: actually cast a spell), I have a built in deduct_ap that's supposed to do this work for me, and sometimes I lose 5 AP (as I'm supposed to), and sometimes I lose 8. Also, when I try to use a 219 item (calls a scenario script and takes a targeted enemy) and there isn't a foe in sight, I automatically lose 3 AP, even though nothing happens — this behavior is unlike spells, since one can select Bolt of Fire and, if no one is in sight, the game just tells you and cancels everything without taking AP. Is there any way around any of this? EDIT: New version sent. Check your e-mails, testers. And actually... I don't think that if Jesus existed, he'd ever want to see another cross when he comes back. There's going to be alot of burned Catholics. Posts: 53 | Registered: Saturday, July 15 2006 07:00 |

In fact, I didn't much mind the ancient epic references ("Sing first, O muse..."). I can't place it though - Aeneid, Illiad or Odyssey? -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Giving away the plot! Curses. That's an original invocation of the Muse, with heavy inspiration from all three major classical epics and my favorite modern one, Paradise Lost. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Is anyone else suffering from the floor type 174 and its ilk (aka in the Strange Cave)? It honestly, not in a joking sort of way, makes my eyes ache. I suspect that its repeating pattern, combined with the alteration between dark and neon blue, are to blame. My eye muscles strain when looking at it, maybe because they go from looking at a very bright color to a dark one and then back again so quickly. By the way, I've created a replacement version for myself. If anyone else wants it, I can make it available. -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

This one I don't mind talking about publicly: it's Luz's Exile cave floor. It is rather intense when used as the main floor in the outdoors, so I'm giving serious consideration to changing it. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Exile Cave floor doesn't share many similarities with row two of this sheet, which is what came with Exodus. Maybe there was a problem converting? -------------------- quote: Posts: 1115 | Registered: Sunday, May 15 2005 07:00 |

It's possible that she changed it since I downloaded it. I'll re-do it at some point and see what happens. There wasn't any "converting" to speak of. EDIT: New version. Again. Probably the last update for a little while. This must mean that I'm not just crazy, and Exodus is finishable! That makes me excited. I have no idea when I'll be able to get to the bugs in the e-mails that are coming in now, but it's likely that I'll wait for a few more people to finish, resolve all the easy bugs at once, and then gradually start working on the harder issues. (After I get through that, I'll take a handful of additional testers and start the second round.) So keep the reports coming, even if I don't respond to your e-mails for a little while. Well, in a certain sense it is possible, but people will probably abuse it in such a way, that you'd better leave it out. I'll be on holiday from the 25th of Juli until around the 14th of August. I'll still participate in the testying, I'll just start abit later (that is, if you are done correcting the bugs until then). -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Hey all testers, This weekend ended up being a lot more hectic than I anticipated. Somewhere this week I'm going to try to find time to respond to comments and fix up a new version. You can feel free to keep playing and send me notes, though. I think I've heard from four people since the latest version, which means that about half of you have sent me nothing in the past couple weeks. Those who are waiting for a more polished, releasable version, you may be waiting until September. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
