Really. The article (and topic) titles are a bit misleading...

Methinks Excalibur just saw the title, and thought it was postworthy. Honestly, this doesn't seem that controversial. I just hope everything goes smoothly for him.

So he's biologically female, but identifies as a man, and got pregnant. Woohoo.

The headline makes it seem a lot stranger than it is - it's not at all like those myths about Zeus bearing children that hatch from his head or his thigh.

About the only ones who can remain excited about this after reading the article are the fundamentalists...

Yeah, I read this in the papers about a week ago. It's a nice story really, and at least the two parents are actually in love, and not dragging the baby into the middle of a warzone.

There are specially reserved places for such people. They're called mental institutions.

No offense, but that's incredibly close-minded. A lot of people out there identify as the opposite gender. It's actually a lot more common than you might think. It really isn't insanity either.

Nalyd would enjoy knowing who this troll is.

Mystic, what's so bad about transsexuality?

It's quite sad that people aren't even allowed to be themselves, in a way that makes no difference to anybody else's life, without having to deal with comments like that.

It's "sinful". Mystic is a religious Christian of some sort, IIRC.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't discriminate on the basis of gender identity, at least. ARRGH!

ADoS: Someone can be Christian without trying to impose ideals on other people. For instance, the lifestyle isn't something that I would personally follow, and it isn't even something that I really understand. But in this day and age (especially in the US, a country defined by freedom), acceptance of other people's ways of life is somewhat necessary.

The past 10 or so posts are primary evidence of why this thread should never have been started.

I never said he was imposing his beliefs on anyone. Stating them in a rude way, perhaps, but not imposing. I give him credit for that.

I don't mean any offense, Mystic, since you're generally cool. I should have kept my mouth shut, since it was rude and you can speak for yourself. I apologize.

My statement about the FSM is separate and still stands, however. ARRGH!

EDIT: Agreed, Salmon.

If he is so sure he's a man, why would he choose to go through the most woman thing any human can go though? I know they had their reasons and whatnot, but a true man would have said "No way I'm doing that, we're adopting."

Some people just like biological offspring. Perhaps they want to preserve the bloodline.

I'm not offended by this story. I think it's amusing. I would still consider "Thomas" a woman, though. A woman that looks like a man is not therefore a man.

Trying to blur the line between male and female is more a transgression of nature than anything else, I think. And calling it a "sin" the way you did implies that any "rule" against it is mere convention and prejudice. Again, I'm not offended. I just think it's unnatural. Mystic's comment about mental institutions was extreme, perhaps, but I see his reasoning. In this case, though, it seems to be working fine.

It's pretty hard to logically define what is "natural" and what isn't, and IMO it's meaningless. What does it matter what people do, as long as they don't hurt or exploit themselves or anyone else?

By your reasoning, it's also quite unnatural that we're all sitting in front of metal and plastic objects that shine bright lights and have lots of buttons to push.

A "true man"? Really?

A person's gender is defined by their anatomy and/or by how they identify themselves. It most certainly is not defined by their actions.

Words like "true", "right", "correct", "incorrect", "natural" and "unnatural" are completely unuseful in this area.

For the record, I, a practicing Christian, have no problems with transexuality.
