I am struck by the diversity of the members on these boards. While there's some different language-speakers that we all know (MagmaDragoon), I didn't know, for instance, that Thralni was Dutch. Therefore, I've decided to do my duty as new member and make an annoying poll about it. (I don't think this has been done before, but correct me if I'm wrong.) Poll Information This poll contains 2 question(s). 47 user(s) have voted. You may not view the results of this poll without voting. function launch_voter () { launch_window("http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=poll;d=vote;pollid=hamkLnZGxYSr"); return true; } // end launch_voter function launch_viewer () { launch_window("http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=poll;d=view;pollid=hamkLnZGxYSr"); return true; } // end launch_viewer function launch_window (url) { preview = window.open( url, "preview", "width=550,height=300,toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status,menubar=no,scrollbars,resizable,copyhistory=no" ); window.preview.focus(); return preview; } // end launch_window -------------------- But I don't want to ride the elevator. You stand corrected. And in order to complain about the poll a bit, none of the languages I speak are listed in the second question. While it's understandable for e.g. Swedish, I would imagine there being more people who speak German (or English for that matter), than Dutch. No offence, Thralni. Oh, right. The "please specify" bit: I speak Finnish, Swedish, German and English. [ Friday, April 28, 2006 02:10: Message edited by: Redstart ] Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

I speak English and German. Ich sprache Englisch und Deutsch. EDIT: It would probably be more correct to say that I read and write German. I almost never speak it. I am Finnish, so speak Finnish. I know my way around English, and I could utter a few words of Swedish, but they wouldn't make much sense together. -------------------- "I'm not crazy!" O_o you could have added German, you know. Since three of the active members are natively speaking it. I'm one of them. :P Also you forgot Greek and Latin, ignoring all the classically educated people. I speak German, English and French. Italian and New-Greek too, but less perfected. edit: WKS, I don't believe you the German bit. If you fail to conjugate such a simple verb as "sprechen" ... =p [ Friday, April 28, 2006 02:31: Message edited by: spy-there ] -------------------- Slartucker: * facepalm facepalm facepalm * Dikiyoba: Are you unconscious yet? I speak Dutch, german, French, English, and a bit of Hebrew. Dutch and English are the best, but the other three are quite bad. And for some reason, I feel sort a flattered that the cause of this poll to be made, is I. -------------------- Play and rate my scenarios: Where the rivers meet View my upcoming scenario: The Nephil Search: Escape. Ich spreche Deutsch, I speak English, je ne parle pas Francais (Mort), and I speak a few sentences in a various fantasy lingos, a few of them self-invented. Ezkedan ezkarzat, cór'tat ezkedoran. Edit: Also, my number of known languages fluctuates between 0 and infinity, so I checked all those boxes because I could. The poll is worthless anyway... I'm not Polish (or even Slavic) at all. I started taking it because it is a living language with very similar features to the dead ones that I've been studying. The grammar is a lot like Latin's. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! I can speak 3/4 English and 3/4 Russian. I also studied German in high school, but forgot most of it. (3/4 English and 3/4 Russian means that my English is still far from perfect, but I am already starting to forget Russian.) Я знаю английский, русский и частично немецкий. (Russian version is much shorter, because I have to select letters one at a time from Character Map.) Ich kann Englisch und Russisch schprechen. My native language is English. Heh. Boring. XD I took German in school. I took AP German last year. I can read it pretty fluently, and write pretty well, since I know enough to get my point across if I don't know exactly how to say something, but it's way harder to do that spontaneously, while speaking. But I could probably function all right in a German situation. (I understood the original versions of those Avernum reviews that were in German.
